Now that I understand what you're saying...it gets my vote! I've used that technique for planning out units before deciding exactly what to include in lesson plans when time was short. I didn't know what it was called though, I just did it. I have not used it for myself, but I did examine a copy of MM software for learning disabled students and I secretly wished such software was around for me because it would have made my life a lot easier. (as I thought of other aspects, they could have been spacially posititioned better and/or deleting a few items, wouldn't necessetate a whole new drawing because I made such a mess what I had was no longer useable. One of the things I would have loved to use it for would be sequencing the items...where to start...what comes next etc. If you can find a piece of software that isn't too time consuming to learn to use, that will meet your needs, go for it...from what I saw and how I used to work, I think it would be a blessing. Linear thinking, such as what happens in outlining does not give the "whole picture" but I think this would.

The judge does not have to uphold the death penalty sentence. I believe he can revise it to life without parole. Whether it's life in prison, or death, I just can't imagine how his parents get through the days. I think I would question myself the rest of my life wondering where I went wrong in raising him, although I don't think they have any fault at all.

I've had a problem getting a gift for special people who have everything. They have loved 2 things I've figured out. Check with your local florist and FTD a special Christmas arrangement. I got one from my florist the first year I decided it wasn't worth it to put up a tree. It did the trick of making my living room festive, and the pine smell was still there. Some people would love such a piece to use as a centerpiece on their holiday table. Another thing I've sent with great results was special food.....Omaha Steaks, Mrs. Prindible's Apples, Junior's Cheesecakes....or any other special food that they might enjoy. Your town, or local mall may have a gift shop which specializes in gift baskets. I once sent one to a coffee lover with several kinds of ground coffee, a few kinds of things to go with it and "little" things to be enjoyed with it....Even chocolate coated spoons to make any kind of chocolate-enhanced flavor of one's choosing.

It's not quite as simple as that.If you were working with an inanimate system, that would be the likely scene, but living systems are a whole new ball game. Heat in humans usually is dissipated by sweat or hard breathing....same with horses. Although many biologcal molecules can be used as fuel, I'll start with glucose, since everything is converted to that or something close to that. There are 3 distinct biochemical pathways used by living cells to produce energy. Oxygen is used at the end of the last stage! So, the limiting factor in the process is the quantity of oxygen at the muscles. When this is limited or gone, muscles go into "oxygen debt" - whereby they use only the first of these distince processes....and it does not produce very much energy. If the body can't bring enough oxygen to the system, the end product of the first process is lactic acid. It is a muscle irritant. That's why you have sore muscles when you overdo it. In a few hours or days....the body will eventually provide enough oxygen and the irritation will go away. It's not heat which regulates the system, but the quantity of oxygen.

Not so much anymore. Yes, scientists do replicate each other' work, but to check on each other's veracity. "Pure science" will do that for good reason. However, since Scientific Journals are now pretty much all online, that's not necessarily so.Along my many travels, I worked as a lab assistant to pay my way throug several courses. The first assignment given to me was to thoroughly search the literature to find any and all pertinent material recently dont, acquire the paper, and syntheseze it for the research prof. Dull work...but it builds charachet! :)--> The preposterously simple is not always so simple. Fifty years ago, plant biologists thought they had photosyntesis all wrapped up in a simple neat package. Water and carbon dioxide go in and sugar and oxygen come out....a simple rearrangement of atoms. But when they started investigating with radioisotopes and it took them almost 10 years to figure it all out. "We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that my soul knoweth right well"!

I sometimes wonder myself. However - I watched his "Weight Loss Challenge" and the folks he worked with and I believe he's onto something. Most people who overeat, do so for reasons. People who yo-yo diet lose weight but then gain it again because they didn't remove an underlying cause which drives them to eat for comfort. The rest of us gain some weight because we just eat too much....and then take it off and leave it off....such as around the holidays, or some women who gain a ton of weight during pregnance. IMHO his "instructions" there were right on...concentrating on healthy food and exercise, and also removing an underlying pshycological problem. I watch from time to time and think much of the advise or suggestions are pretty good for the people he gives it too....and take the rest with a grain of salt. However....I had a real problem with my 16 month old grandon. He was fascinated with my glasses and kept trying to pull them off my face. I am not one who can tolerate anybody fussing around my eyes especially my glasses....my daughter didn't think Anthony was old enough at 15 months to know what she called "right from wrong" and she is probably right....but there are things one must stop immediately in a child that young. I tried his advice, and it worked the first time with no trauma to anybody. Anthony reached for my glasses....I made eyecontact with him...and quietly said "no Anthony, you just can't play with Gramma's glasses" while I gently removed his little hand from them and move it aside....gentle..no yelling...and he got it. Of course he cried and went running to mommy....she just told him that I was right, and that he couldn't play with my glasses and off he went. For the rest of that visit, he stayed away from them....but a week or so later on a subsequent visit, he went for them and all I had to do was look him in the eye and gently remind him he couldn't play with them and he looked at his mother for confirmation...and she confirmed it...and we went off to do something else. I think it's like everything else....take what you can from it and forget the rest.

I forgot your question about "remarkable". Drs usually use that term when they see results which are outside of normal expectations. In a diagnosis, one might read "the size of each atria is unremarkable"....when I had a cardiac echocardiagram to check that my heart was not physically damaged in the accident....that was written in the report. It just meant that every thing in that part of the exam was normal. Doctors generally make a "remark" when something is abnormal. So this man probably meant that your friends results were extraordinarily good.

David: -- sigh - - finally, I have discovered a name for the condition! :)--> Sorry, Dave - not quite true except in rare instances. What happens when molecules collide is Chemistry or Quantum Chemistry or some other such thing. Those are subjects I know very little or nothing about, except they exist. I hope your cousin is doing well now? Lower back pain is offen associated with kidney problems, either infection, a stone or tumor (or something else) I'm curious how you knew your cousin's oxygen levels were low. Were his nailbed and lips blue or purple? He might have gotten even more benefit from oxygen had his doctors put him on supplemtal oxygen to breathe as well as your oxygenated water! I'm not a physician, so I can only suggest why the urine changed color. When a person is taking chemotherapy, cells die. Good ones and bad ones. The body is very very stingy, it does not give up easily any part of something which is still worthwhile. It rather takes the cell fragments and/or molecules apart to use again.(something like taking down a large lego structure to use the blocks again in some other structure). As this happens what is truly waste is cast out into the lymph where it is pused around until the large lymph vessels dump their contents into the vena cava just before entering the heart. So it gets mixed back in with the blood. Once this gunk reaches the liver and kidneys, they set up and pass the junk out. Dark urine shows that lots of junk is being cast out....light or pale urine shows little junk needs to be passed out. Not having a Doctorate in Physiology, I can only suspect that the extra oxygen introduced into the digestive system was directed to the liver. The additional oxygen PLUS the additional water allowed the liver to operate more efficiently...and likewise the kidneys. Eventually when the bulk of the "nastys" were eliminated, the urine returned to it's more normal state. Sorry, I cannot give you a more complete answer. As far as your friend which CHF - let me tell you that in all my trips to various therapy sessions after the accident I passed by a room with a man in a bouncing chair. He looked like he was riding a bronco...but he was strapped in very well...and his legs and arms had inflating and deflating pillows alternately squeezing around him. It was very noisy. I asked the attendant who was walking me to my treatment area what that was and was told it was a treatment method to remove extra water from a man with CHF! Therefore, I don't think massage therapy would have any negative effect on your friend. The very least....it would relax him and provide him a period well being. I enjoy talking with you, but these conversations may be boring to the general GS population, so if they start getting antsy, we should continue in the private topic section. They may not object, since many enjoy learning these kinds of things, it is just for future reference. Zixar probably knows more chemistry than I do, so perhaps if you need to know some of that, he's probably your man. I understand it to a degree, but to a small one. krys - - who apologizes in advance for typos, but cannot take time to go looking and checking because she's still dealing with a pesky fan.

They can only go back 7 years for a traditional audit, but if they suspect fraud, they can go as far as they want. They are a tenatious lot, and are never wrong. When my father's cognitive skills were failing, he did his own taxes and made a whild bunch of bloopers. IRS came after him with all sorts of fines etc. I paid the amount owed minus the fines. His bank, two physicians and 3 nurses who were taking care of them while in FL wrote sworn and notorized affidavits of his congitive inablilty. I was told this would avoud the fines and other late fees. They kept assesing more late fees...this went on for several months and finally I paid everything. To hire a lawyer was more costly so I paid it. I needed to preserve his funds. If it were me, I'd go into the poor house before I paid money I didn't owe.

Estrogen is the hormone supplied together with progesterone to allieviate problematic isues in menopausal women, but it is testosterone which regulates their sex drive, I believe. There are products made for women which I am told work well but they are not estrogen based as far as I know. Sometimes woman who say they don't like it have other issues going on, like physical or emotional exhaustion, general fatigue, poor diet and sometimes certain medications can interfere with both gender's. I do know that once menopause is over....women generally regain their appreciation of it.

Congratulations rascal, I am so proud of you and your kids. You worked very hard for this so I know you deserve the rank, and I hope you really enjoy it a good long time. I'm so glad for the new job too. The benefits are worth their weight in gold even if you didn't get such a huge pay raise! "Good on you"!!! krys

David: I don't know which I would grieve for more...your mother's death, or the siblings casting lots for her posesions while she "rots" away in an unnecessary nursing home. I've been there, with a sibling. We are now permanently estranged because of it. When my parents started failing in their health, they were 1200 miles away in FL and I went down summers and various long weekends to help. My brother called them once in a while to tell them what to sell and to insist they give him charge over their estate so he could "help". There is a thread around here somewhere where I've discussed "Burrying my Brother" because I took a stand, and when Mom offerred to put my name on their accounts instead of his, all hell broke loose. Since I came to help, and my sibbling called to advise them...I guess she figured I was the lesser of 2 evils. There's more to the story....but the end result is the same...except that after Mom died, I spent my father's money on him...my DH took a second mortgage on a house that was almost paid off and we built a second story onto our ranch house. We moved outselves and our children upstairs, and Dad moved into the bedrooms downstairs with one reserved for his "assistant" and he and she became an integral part of our family's life for a bit over 2 years while we lived together until he died. He did suffer from dimentia. I am sincerely offering condolences for both of your losses. Sometimes, it's not names on boards such as this. Anyone can sign up with any name one wants...be it real or otherwise. I generally determine a poster's integrity by their overall reputation in what they say and where they say it (which forum). Lately, my time on the computer is very short due to a pesky exhaust fan problem (see the Computer forums for info) so it will be a while before I get to post again, I think. Again I apologize for mis-reading you, I do very much like the Penta Water and appreciate the tip. I don't know if I will want to set up a system or not....to be determined. For very intimate private reasons, it is not likely that I will give you my real name any time soon. I mean no offense, but there are reasons for it. You have a Private Topic waiting for you where we can talk about this some more if you'd like.

Suppose Cindy! beats you out Steve! What are you gonna do then?

of course excathy - I knew you were teasing. But I wasn't kidding about not taking care of yourself when you're younger.

Well - I'm waiting for DH to get around to getting and installing the fan. It sucks to be disabled and have to depend on somebody else who is also busy and tries to fit you in when they can! Meanwhile.....this puter is getting harder to "control" and if you don't hear from me, that means it went down.....and I don't know if it's the fan, if it will require a major house call [where do I find somebody I can trust in new jersey?] or a new puppy! love you guys. krys

Thanks Rev. Mother! the older I get, the feebler I get......and no amount of water will fix that! Trust me - - take care of yourselves very well otherwise getting to the age of 62 1/2 ian't really worth it.

I don't know much about art, except that it immitates life. It's true I never would have known about it except for you guys/ But now that I see it, I'm impressed in a very positive way. I think the idea of Jesus coming for "all" is what is intended, and the faces applied to the various wardrobes morely represent the various types of humanity and their cultures. But maybe not - - maybe it's just designed to be funny. Well - there is humor in there if you can disengage yourself enough to see it. My personal opinion, which doesn't count for much, is that it is a wonderful piece of art and those who are pointing fingers may be too sensitive.

I apologize again for my agression and snyde remaarks....we were obviously posting at the same time and I had no way to know you were not fishing for sales. My big mouth is noW officially shut whith a large amount of chagrin for glue!

........But I've developed another problem. I can only keep this computer up and running a short time since I blew a fan and this machine (Athlon) is known to run hot. So I power down after a few minutes to prevent damage. Question 1: How likely is it that I can acquire and install a new fan (big one in the back of the chassie (sp?) without an expensive service call? Question 2. I recently installed a cable telephone to save money. Everything worked great until this 'puter started acting up. Now I am getting messages that are strange and the phone does not work. Here are the messages at startup.... -- New hardware found....it refers to my printer, which I have no problem with....when I can keep this thing up and running for longer, I can reinstall the printer. BTW - the printer works fine. --New hardware found....Multimedia Audio Controler....What is this? Is there any way I can re-install or otherwise "fix" this without an expensive service call. Ordinarily I'd go looking on the web for answers myself, but I can't stay up and running long enough for any meaningful research. I'd appreciate any insight you may have. BOTH issues have recently surfaced since the overheating became obvious to me. I did go into CMOS and adjust a few things and I wonder if I screwed up in there. I disabled shaddowing, reset the temp to 50 degrees C and perhaps I did something else without realizing it? Yeah - I have guts....going into CMOS...but I had to learn how to do it, to keep the animals from booting up machines in school and playing around with them....I password protected them so they wouldn't boot unless I did it!

I was only looking at Mac's because of their legendary graphics record and that I've recently heard so much about the new Ipod. The program I wan comes in both versions, so that is not an issue. I appreciate all your responses. Thanks.

Wow Abi! What a great meeting. I commend his teacher and you. Teachers like this are hard to find in public schools IMHO. My guess is that you are right on about the science, but that there is not much your teacher can do about it. She probably has little or no control over when her class gets to go to recess! The only thing she might be able to do is switch the time she herself selects to teach science and she could be deadlocked there too. Is there a time coming sooner than next hear in grade 1 where reading groups are formed according to ability? If so, his boredom and lack of work will probably dissapear when that happenes and he has a reasonable challenge there. If I had parents like you, I would have enjoyed my job so much more....although I could not have individualized as much in high school with 125 kids! Between you and the mad man, I expect you shall raise healthy, moral, well adjusted kids who will be capeable adults! Congratulations.

I'm glad all your children are thriving and that all the rest of your friends and relatives are/were not inhumanely tortured as they approached their last breath.

Perhaps I misunderstood this question before. I am disabled because of krappy genes AND a horrendous auto accident which should have killed me.(Iunderstand Newtonian physics almost as well as I do biology) I owe the balance of my life to aggressive treatment by the medical profession + whatever I find that augments it in general....and my mobility to the expertise of excellent nursing care and the dedication of physical therapists who still work with me...as well as my own guts and determination to fight off the depression and pain. In addition, I investigate and use, at least temporarily, any alternative to "medicine" that logically may have a positive impact. That includes many things folks call weird. Some of them have been of benefit - imagine that! ----------------------------------------- Now, please let me cut to the chase! Since you only recently acquired a password to post, and you obviously have a great deal to offer a group such as this, but only recently want to get involved in discussions here, that leads me to think you came here to sell your systems for oxygenating and distilling water. How much space does such a system need and how much do they cost?
