  1. Cindy it's pretty hard or impossible if one does not have a job that pays well enough! I remember when I could rearrange the budget to accomodate something or other....but today, I do not have that freedom. There is nothing to rearrange unless I give up all fresh fruits and veggies. For a single person such as myself, there is very little savings there. If one or another of my family members wasn't sharing s-o-m-e expenses I would be dead-meat!
  2. New computer! Blue Screen of Death. I have to say that it happened after I installed the printer, however I don't think it's related to the printer since I set everything up in 2 days. Checking Event Viewer - - Application Errors indicate COM+ and PerfNet.....what are these??? System Errors are DCOM and one time Service Control Manager I hope I didn't buy a lemon. I'm going to read a bit and then call Dell tomorarow I think. What do you guys think?
  3. Given what I understand about everything else he claimed about himself, I'm not so sure he had that much talent...at least as much as his team mates did. At that level of competetion practice refines your raw talent and makes it work for you...but won't do you much good if all you have is practice routines and "muscle memory".
  4. "False prayer" isn't really prayer, now....is it?
  5. I will never believe another photo again as long as I live!
  6. Dear David: I've tried to show you what I know about biology but every time I do, your responses indicate that your mind is already made up. I can not teach you anything if you aren't willing to suspend judgement until you've followed and digested the information along the garden path I've laid out for you. I've called it a "garden path" because although there are rows of headges and interesting boulders and amazing clumps of trees about, AND asked you not to be distracted by them until you get to the end, you insist on pouring over these "distractions" and then complain to me that I didn't teach you anything. And when you didn't learn it, you not only put the blame on me - but also inserted a teeth-ratteling insult in there just for good measure. Surely you don't really expect me to try again do you? How dare you put me in the category of those who were really Corpse Nazis! It is amazing to me that David - the Mighty Engineer - could come to such an errant conclusion. Where do you get off questioning my honesty? Who are you -Mr. High and Lofty All Powerfull One-Thread, the Regal David Anderson...to be my judge? Just for the record, I was never in the Corps...never even sent for an application. IF you see guile in me, it is because you are looking through your own. I don't start fights either. It uses too much energy and bandwidth - but I stick up for myself when necessary. I'm glad you never wrote any of my physiology papers otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the only 'A' in the class. I find it so telling that you demand honesty in me, but willingly admit you partook in dishonesty by preparing papers for others. I guess it was just too tempting for you to exert your own superiority whenever the opportunity was presented! I hope you were paid enough for it.
  7. Physics and chemistry as we know it do not require probablity and statistics, or double blind tests. That is correct. However biology is also a science, but many studies done with living systems do require them...especially those regarding humans. People have perceptions - they see things and are thinking creatures. Double blind means that when a study is set up, neither the subject nor the clinician knows what treatment the subject is getting. This is done on purpose to remove the possibility of any subtle clues being passed on to the subject...and the subject thereby jumping to conclusions based on this. This is absolurely necessary since humans are dynamic systems. They change second to second. If a test runs over a period of hours, the patient's body has run through so many processes simultaneously that statistical analyses are necessary. That's the only way to have any verifiable information regarding it. Engineers work with static systems. Once the system is built, there is no possibiity of it's changing. Statements likethis and this are not only rude, but ignorant. And it is absolutely true that anecdotal evidence is not a "slur" I is, however inferior just because it has not been supported by the kind of tests needed in human subjects...i.e.double blind studies. All science begins with anecdotal evidence. When Banting and Best discovered the role of the pancreas and insulin in the body it originated by anecdotal evidence! {ants collected in the runs of dogs who's pancreas was removed whereas no ants collected in the pens of dogs who did not have this done. I find much of your "enginereize" hard to swallow because it comes with such an air of superiority and condecention. Do you really believe that engineers are on the top of the food chain in scientific endeavors? Because that's what you convey in your acrid abrasive posts.
  8. Methinks a record of this snafu and it's hi-teck resolution should be recorded and sent either with Zach - or via some other means to his class. I'm sure they'd love the story although Zach would be heartbroken if Stanley was really really lost.
  9. I don't think it would being teaching them fear...just a healthy respect for the not-so-good things around them. By respect, I don't mean the "look up to kind", but I'm using that term the way we respect bad thunderstorms for the damage they can do. I don't recall the exact ages of your children, but one of the things I would consider is buying them a "call home cell phone". You can buy a prepaid phone and phone card. I think you han restrict the numbers called on it...but I would definitely have the 2 of them stay within shouting distance of each other and have one of them keep this on them. Use a digital watch if the children are too young to get the reading of a regular watch and tell them when you expect them to call...when the watch reads 2:15 for example. Something else you may have to do it organize them and you for things to do together out of the house. Library...does the area have a pool in summer...those kinds of things. Are there playgrounds where they can meet and play with other children while you're there so you have the peace of mind of knowing they're safe AND they have freedom to explore? Is there a boys club? How about a Police Athletic League? You can't structure all their time...that's not letting them be kids! But you can make arrangements for safe secure play time and events if it's not a good idea to go too far off the block. You're earning your "mommy striipes" here. I'm sure you'll pull it off. I doubt your children will consider it fear in the negative sense because of how you will present it to them. You demonstrate a definitely I'm with you, kids. I'm fighting with you and for you attitude...they'll pick up what you want them to understand.
  10. There was no prom when I graduated high school. The school was just too big. The freshmen all went to another elementary schookl 3 blocks away. All those students went elsewhere...and so the whole freshman class used that building. There were 1250+ of us in the graduating class. We had 2 graduations at a local college gymnasium. A - L in the morning..M - Z in the afternoon.
  11. Congratulations. I wish all of you all the best.
  12. Good for you! I'm glad. I guess this means that the next time you start a food fight by crackiing an egg on my head - I'd better have a helmet on because it will be boiled already!
  13. Kids don't come with a User's Manual...but most females have the "Mommy Gene" and while some don't appear to use it, we all have it!
  14. I have cable service for my computer, television and telephone and so far I wouldn't have it any other way. I am an officer in a national needlework Guild and have to upload and download large picture files and would be in the soup if I had dial-up only. When I taught, I used many online references, and preptime is at a premium. I didn't have the variety and quality of some source materials when I used dialup. Being disabled makes it hard for me to shop, but I can do most of it online. Even my ShopRite has a shopping service...I order online they travel through the huge store to collect it...and they bring it out to my car and put it in my trunk for a measely $10! I use the telephony too and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! Sound is perfect, connections are great...and fast. Plus they keep an online record of all your calls. They keep messages too so I tossed my very old answering machine. But the biggest benefit to me is price. I pay $39 for all the phone service, no time restrictions or anything. One truly flat rate fits all. For me that's important since it allows my Daughter and I to keep close even though she's moved. (I also get lots of pictures of the grandson regularly) I used to hate this cable company 20 years ago. But somebody bought them out, and now they've rebuilt the service and have technitions who know what they're doing so the service is excellent. It is a large bill every month, but for me, considering what I'm getting, it's worth it. YMMV
  15. Vicles, your mom and my mom had the same mother!

    Forum Pruning

"Me too" posts should not be pruned out of the Prayer Room, please. Sometimes it's inappropriate to say anything else but that!
  17. Thanks HAPe - I've "broken into" my bios before, but what you are suggesting is way way beyond what I understand. I appreciate your attempts. I'm almost done...almost in a new country!
  18. I can help a little skyrider. You're right about the other corps guy. It was this other corps guy who found out hhis own wife was in loy's stable and also fooled around some besides this. This other guy Cxxxx Dxxxn, was the one who "ripped loy a new one" . The CD's went as a couple to that Advanced class. The JB's didn't. J did, but not the wife...she stayed in Gunnison with their children. After the storm was over in loy's office (with 9 mil's exposed the D's were accompanied to collect their stuff and then drivenunder supervision to a hotel in Dayton to wait for the plane *home* the next morning. Their stuff at Gunnison was packed up for them...and every single thing they had wa picked through looking for a note of some kind in loy's handwriting. Their computer was returned to them with its hard drive re-formatted! JB was given a ticket on a bus back to Gunnison. The bus stopped all along the way at it's usual stops. Those at Gunnison therefore had plenty of time to work with his wife and tell her whatever they wanted to tell her....and moved her and the children quietly off campus for a while. When he returned, she was not there....but they did try to speak over the phone....and she refused to talk to him! The CD's are now divorced. Mr. D has re-married but I'm not sure about Mrs. D. Maybe that sheds a little more light on this picture?

    DSICBD part deux

Yes - this really is great stuff. Sustainable farming, forestry, etc. is sometimes just words that are thrown around because they sound good. But we were given the Earth "to dress it". Whenever we use Godly practices we always reap the highest benefits....and I don't care if it's carrots or money or friends! It's the principle of the thing and I'm so happy you have the where-with-all to follow through on this.
  20. Reproof is in reference to a standard of some sort. Point of view, or opinion doesn't need a standard.
  21. I hope youw whole birthday weekend is totally awesome! You deserve it.
  22. The way things are today, it won't be long until it crosses over into women as well. Viruses are tricky...they change all the time. I wonder how many strains of this one already exist by now!
  23. geese - I hope I didn't walk in on something in here....excie and house! sheesh!
