Maybe on the surface the way we see it, things are ok...but somebody else called pawtuckett bears legal and other responsibility here, and perhaps there are issues we know nothing about! I also notice that there seem to be a greater than normal increase in new posters, so laying out the rules...is a good way to go. Believe it or not...sometimes the reasons people want to remain under the radar have nothing to do with the organization but rather have their roots elsewhere. Can you imagine someone running for mayor or Councilman in their local burg? Somebody Googles their name and voila.....stuff from long ago which is possibly not true comes raging forth? To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.

Now - - can you hear me now - - - Does anybody still wonder if said "gentleman" (I use the term loosely) likes to lurk and read here? If so, say " Aye"!

Meanwhile, as the 51st corpse breaks down the tents and food courts of the latest advance...J. Linberg sorts through the gathered trash of the past 2 weeks, seeking whom he may "retire".

I agree with Raf - and although it fries my liver to refrain from naming certain names, the individuals perhaps could possibly be deduced by those who really need to know by virtue of some of the titles. Whenever it comes to protecting GreaseSpotters, I'm all for that e-x-c-e-p-t I'm sure there are some who are known around these parts but who are ashamed and fully meet the criteria of Godly sorrow....and we would never know their given names because of our anonyminity policy. I think it would be crewl to dredge anybody's sordid past through the mire here unless it was one of the top echelon still promulgating the stuff. Of course, by definition, even Mr. Linder is a GreaseSpotter.

I believe that blueberries are the best antioxidant-bearing food we can eat. Plus, I love 'em. Cowgirl, what are some of the best fruits for living our best?

No Linda - I knew you were not down on cops! I know you better than that. I was just giving the concensus of opinions in my general neck of the woods. It's a nightmare, really. People go crazy. A few years ago, my brother was assisting in the power company in NYC. It was brutal dog days of August...one side of the street was one ethnic group...and the other side was a different one. Which didn't matter in the case of fixing the problem, but just stated to understand the end of the story. The power was turned off and my brother and one other descended into the bowels of brooklyn to make the repair. It was hotter than hell down there and they stayed only 15 minutes followed by a mandatory 20 minute topside respite...union rules. The crowd was angry because they were not in the hole all the time. One woman came down from 3 flights of stairs with a large bottle of iced tea, paper cups and ice, which she graciously offered the working men, and they gratefully accepted. One of her neighbors took similar care of the police blocking the traffic on the street. She kept this up for about 4 hours while the procession of workmen did their thing down in the hole. A total of about 6 men, all different specialties worked down there. When the job was done, and the power back on...the truck hadn't left yet...but the group across the street massed after this kind woman and some of her helping friends...they didn't get along, these neighbors....and the other ones didn't think the workmen "deserved" a cool drink. And in this neighborhood, police are fodder for anything you don't like or approve of. No matter where you go - - when you work for large numbers of people...you can expect to be the recieving end of all kinds of insults and assaults. Nobody can keep everybody happy. Just do what you can...and move on.

State Police and members of the Sheriff's Department have tools they can use that a city police department doesn't have...such as the things they throw across roads to puncture tires. Helicopters can help too in many cases. Many cities have laws against police chases except in very rare circumstances...such as you the patrol officer saw the vehicle involved in the hit and run and you take off after it. When it comes to police, nobody's happy with their work. If a policeman doesn't always catch the bad guy, citizens claim crime is increasing. If they do discharge their weapon and miss the bad guy and the bullet shatters the A&P window the store manager has a fit that the cops aren't careful. All of us owe a debt of gratitude to all the police for whatever they can do to maintain property and peace and I think many of us should stop judging too.

I'm never going to "get over it". The "it" in my case is a personal private thing I keep hidden except from the closest of my friends for the shame it brings. In my case, the pain does seem to subside, though. I will always be around to stand up to anybody who says "just get over it" because I don't want anybody else to ever be treated as badly as some of these - - my brothers and sisters on this forum. Never. While I draw breath I will continually remind anyone who forgot, or describe to anyone who doesn't know, exactly as much as I know of first hand experience, and also the well reported and recorded incidents of reputable posters so that not one single additional person has to endure any of it. That's my story - and I'm sticking to it. And Ham, I'm so sorry you are still troubled and concerned over the things you grieve over. If this was a court of law, you'd be declared innocent because you were not in your right mind...your mind was twisted around 14 ways 'till Sunday. But I know you don't want excuses, you believe you should have known better. I understand that too...sometimes I feel the same way. It takes a very very big man to admit that, Ham.

IMHO one of the dumbest things done in the last 30 years was to stop vaccinating children for smallpox. There are 3 known stores of that virus that I know of alive. One is in Atlanta (disease prevention center) the second is someplace else in the USA don't remember where and the 3rd is at the Pasteur Institute in France. At least that's the last I heard. If I had my way, I would get vaccinated and/or immunized against any possible bug that one could get vaccinated or immunized against. Just my opinion though. BTW - - the reason I think it's dumb to not vaccinate for small pox is NOT in case of terrorism, although that could be a case in these modern times, but against the accidental release of the stuff and how quickly it will spread and possibly mutate.

Does " the Apprentice" count as reality TV? I really enjoyed that! I also liked "Dancing With the Stars" but I admit I could be drawn to it solely because my parents won many ballroom dancing contests in their younger years.

Sports is reality tv - - and you gents all eat that up!

I was reading about this yesterday from a health site I belong to and it was consistenetly referred to by the literature there as the "German standard" of care, which was being pushed as the ultimate world standard. -
There must be a creative non threatening way of saying "I want to talk to you"! That seems to strike fear in our hearts because of the cult we spent so much time with. Suggestions anyone?
-
That was one of our bc's favorite way of tortuing you. Tell you ahead of time..preferably at the beginning of a class...that he needed to speak with you. It wouldn't have been so bad if once it a while he actually want to discuss something with you...but "speak with you" meant I'm gonna mop up the whole house with you and you're gonna beg for more so I don't throw you outta here. But I had my share of wonderful leaders too.

I hear ya Vickles. It sounds just like meet me in the back room right after the meeting.

That may depend on what your definition of sing is. I don't mean to be difficult, but I was told once that it is the rocks in the brook which make it sing (actually bubble in the way that we all like to listen to) I'm going to use the !!'s for an example (without their permission, so they are free to sue me). These guys, Cindy! and Steve! probably have just as much work to do to keep things sweet and tender as any other couple does...but the difference is.....they think it's worth it. So they do the discussing thing...and the respecting thing...and the making the other happy thing...and forgetting about themselves thing...because they want to. I think that too often that's too much work for some people because they don't seem to want to do it. Their spouse isn't good enough? They aren't good enough? It's too expensive to live here....more excuses than China has tea leaves. Nothing in life comes easy if it's worth anything. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. If you're just sitting there waiting... it will never get any better so if that's all you're gonna do...get to the lawyer sooner rather than later because it will cost you less (especially if you are in a community property State.) I anticipate barbs and arrows of disgust and disagreement, so maybe this need to go to the politics forum. tee hee

What wonderful news this is! All my life I never knew anybody important. Now I do! How cool is that!
-
Last nite's news here showed that there are still quite a few who haven't had power restored from the last storm in the fall! Ouch.

I believe all you wanted was to know where you thread went Jonny. Things are simple when you know them, but the learning curve is steeper for some than others. Sometimes some of us (I'm talking about me in particular) forget that everybody doesn't know how this stuff works. I've been around computers a while, and even I don't know all there is to know about how these things work. You're not stupid, just inexperienced. I didn't know that if I clicked on the post numbers I'd get into the profile and I've been around this forum a while.

George - I'll help you push it over there a little!

No - they aren't. When these are of the human variety, they are miserable. These are those who have mixed gender issues. There are some who are born with ambiguous genitals. It takes investigation to figure out what they were "supposed" to be. There is a whole range of anomolies ranging from seemingly male genetals with some for of internal female reproductive parts to all combinations of every extreme. I often wonder if some of those seeking gender change surgery might not in some way fit into this group. Among living things it is often not A nor B as a single point...but rather a range called A and another range called B...especially in the more complex individuals like us humans. Snails are monecious too...as are oysters. The term Hermaphrodite is used in the Plant and Animal kingdoms. Many plants have male and female reproductive parts in the same flower (lily and tulip) and some have male and female flowers on the same plant. Many plants have male and female specimens separately (holly) Don't let me get started, though...hee hee I have hours of lecture notes still roaming around in my brain...ya never know what will come rushing out if I unleash the dam.

There are lots of strange things found in nature. Some fish and some salamanders are all female until breeding comes around and then one of them, usually the oldest and/or biggest will morph into a male and serve the other females. I think it's crocodiles where gender is determined by temperature. All the eggs in the nest do not develop at the same temp...but I forget which one becomes which. There are even some organisms who have both sexes, or the ability to breed with any other individual they encounter. These are called "monecious". They line up next to each other and pass sperm form their male producing parts into the female producing parts of the other. This way both reproduce. It's kinda neat when you think about it. If you are an earthworm...how will you find a partner....and if you do...you have only a 50-50 chance of breeding. The term "hermaphrodite" is used of any critter having both male and female parts. Usually these individuals are sterile, I believe.

This may be futile, but I just want to give it one more chance...living in peace with you, Mr. Anderson. I'm sorry your post got lost. Most of us at one time or other have had posts vanish into the ether. Sometimes I compose a post in Word and then copy it over to be sure I don't lose it. I don't believe anyone has the ability to read posts as they are being prepared for the simple reason that the forums are so large, and at various times quite active. I don't think it's physically possible to do that. There is no way I could be a moderator at this site. Absolutely none. I knew where to look for a thread that appears to go missing because I’ve been here at these forums for years and I know my way around them well. It happens from time to time that threads get moved and go to archives or the soap opera. I didn’t assume anything. I meant what I said. One never knows if somebody reads a thread unless they post on it or maybe make reference to it somewhere else. I’ve always maintained that it would be good if you would take an active interest in more of the going’s on here so I was truly happy to see your post. I wish you had written that post in Word because I still can’t figure out why you are so hostile to me. I was one of the ones who asked that everybody lighten up on the Saturated Water thread…and…after my faux pas in December it wasn’t more than a day or so before I realized my error and corrected it so it’s hard for me to understand why I would now be an object of such obvious scorn….and perhaps that post would have explained it. I’m also sorry for the 4 hours of your time which was lost. I hate losing time…it’s the only thing which when once invested can never be reclaimed.

David it is really good to see you post on another thread. I hope eventually you will look around and become more comfortable here. Your thread was temporarily moved to a forum about health, healing etc down the list. It was in a forum "Greasespot health/get fit/eat right discussions". It is now back in the Open Forum where you began it.
