An interesting quote from Dr. Dilip Jeste, professor of psychiatry and neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine: "In fact, optimism and effective coping styles were found to be more important to aging successfully than traditional measures of health and wellness. These findings suggest that physical health is not the best indicator of successful aging -- attitude is."

I wish my brother would see the light and open up his heart a little so that we could have a little dialogue between us again before one of us leaves the planet for good.

He doesn't even need to wear shoes of any kind to get into my bedroom! I would even let him pick his teeth in bed!

I had no problems with the new chat. It loads fast and I appreciate that. There are enough options for viewing...select your preference for yourself and we won't need a unified background. I like the options this one has. It would be nice to have sound. I love having my preferences saved. I haven't chatted with anyone yet because nobody's been there when I have.

Applesauce looks good plopped on pork.

Jackie Lawson has awesome cards. There is a very small fee, I believe it is under $10/year to send as many cards as you want. Everyone I've sent them too has marvelled. Just for fun, try the 1 minute birthday cake!

I don't know enough about sports to say anything here that hasn't already been said. I do have a way to tell the difference between punishment and discipline but I learned it as an "innie". It is still valid, so I still would use it today if I were molding youngsters. Discipline is something you do for and child. Punishment is something you do to a child. I think it is a matter of heart. You can't tell the difference from the outside all the time.

aw! OK! since you need the surgery, I'll be on deck...and I'll pray and I'll put away the pudding I just opened to thwack you with....it will keep. Maybe even be better if it spoils a little first! Ankles a' Weigh.............

In the wild, gorilla troupes have been seen waging war with one another. They do not stop until one of the troupes has been annihilated, wiped out!

About half of all giraffes are bisexual.

I don't recall receiving any tacky gifts, but there were many home made ones. Some of those were only so-so, but most home made gifts are priceless even if they appear simply done. Home made to me, is a treasure.

No Samurai, I don't think you quite understand me. I'm not sure you read what I wrote carefully. I was specifically speaking about people I encountered coming home circa Way I vs personal knowledge of my kids coming home in Way II. Like many things. what you encountered depended on when you were there. Not all things, but many.
-
I personally don't recall one single solitary threat you've made above, Samurai, pertaining to the corps in Way I. If I missed it, I'd be glad for the corrections...really.

another great name from the past....where is Tom Snyder? I miss his graceful self.

I think we forget that the corpse program was different in twi I, II and III! It reflected the twi of the "era". Some statements made on this thread only apply to earlier years. i.e. in the mid 90's the corps was required to dress for travel. Briefcases were carried on planes! Dresses for women and suite for men. Come on, who wears a suit to travel in a plane....everyone wants a certain level of comfort. My point is that when my kids came home at that time, they had a fully prearranged adjenda where they were sent from place to place to promo the corps program. They weren't home to spend any time with family at all.We were a free hotel and rental car to advance their "prime directive" of pushing the corps program. That's not what I remember from previous years when ho-ho-relo occurred. Sure there were "assignments" but there was much more flexability. My point is that although we think we're talking about the same thing....I don't think we are. What was in the scope of posibility for Oldies, was NOT for those who followed in later years. I doubt his experience was much like that of those who followed later.

I'm not surprised about chatrooms...how about email? I'm glad all is well with you - - at least as well as it can be

Yes, Shell that is for hiccups. And she's right...you're just going to have to ride this one out because the harder you try to get rid of it, the more tenacious it gets. You could try accepting the melody and writing different lyrics to it...that might help.

Please finish your story Pawtucket: did the VCR work after you dropped it? ======================================== I was such an "egghead" in those years! I missed a lot of fun stuff. There wasn't much money in the budget to buy music then, especially when we had a number of FM music stations that played "good" instrumental music, which I preferred anyway. WQXR played a number of such instrumental songs for quite some time after his death and I particularly liked one album done by the Boston Pops so I did buy that one. One of my favorites from that album was "Yellow Submarine" because it had some kind of instrument whose name evades me now - - but it had a slide-slap sound. That and some other Boston Pops "antics" made me laugh when I heard them. I think it took me a few months to realize what I had lost in not appreciating their music, so I was very glad they had left a lot of it. I've really enjoyed it since. My musical heart is a bit divided though....it's a toss up between the Beetles and Simon & Garfunkel. Call me strange if you like - - but that's the way it is.
