  1. Maybe they think that once we "get over it" we'll stop talking about "it" and it will all go away and they won't have to read about it anymore. That's just my opinion, though.
  2. Belle I think what you're talking about is called precession. For some reason, the earth's axis wobbles a little causing the poles to effective shift. The cycle was calculated to be one complete cycle every 22 thousand years. That's about all that's left in my memory, but it does correlate with sun spot activity - - one doesn't have any bearing on the other....except the period of time....it's periodicity......
  3. that was tongue in cheek Tom - - -right?

    ouch.............

Thanks. As far as I'm concerned, every single person who's served for 20 years is absolutely entitled to their retirement benefits.
  5. Yes! Global warming IS real. All the models and the measurements etc definately demonstrate that. However there is also evidence consistent with global cooling. This is not made up - not manufactured, not a untested idea. There are many verifyable indications of that as well. There is warming.....let's say the warming does +5. There is cooling.......let's say the cooling is -2 That means the overall warming is +3 However...there are things which can and do tip the scales. Planting trees to use up carbon dioxide will do some good, but there is more CO2 than would be absorbed. And other gases are also involved. There is a demonstration near the end of this hour special which shows how even airplane contrails have an effect. Do yourself a favor and look for this, set your VCR (or whatever) and watch it at your convenience. I believe the science in it is sound. I don't see any hanky panky. I don't believe what's shown is all that's known. It is a one hour show....so they're not gonna get it all. BUT if you watch it, you will get a grip on where the truth lies...and you will know it for yourself.
  6. Bringthis to the top - - - -Because I saw a Nova program that's quite new. A balance between factors affecting global warming and global cooling was examined as carefully as I think possible for us science lovers but not really experts. We had evidence for both cooling and warming and we had no way to put them together. I saw a NOVA program which was very helpful in combining the effects of each in a way I could understand. It was called "Dimming Sun" Here is the schedule for other airings: · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT3 Apr 21 09:00am · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT3 Apr 21 03:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT3 Apr 22 07:00am · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT3 Apr 22 01:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNET Apr 22 05:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT3 Apr 22 07:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WNETDT Apr 23 02:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WLIW Apr 24 04:00am · Nova - Dimming Sun, WLIWDT2 Apr 24 04:00am · Nova - Dimming Sun, WLIW Apr 25 01:00pm · Nova - Dimming Sun, WLIWDT2 Apr 25 01:00pm · I believe the program # was 3310.

I wonder how many uninsured people would have their medicines and drugs.
  9. I was in my late 30's when I first got involved. My habits formed earlier from our chuch pastor. He always said;"save 10%, give 10% and spend the rest with thanksgiving". Whenever I earned money that was more or less what I did. Once I left twi I gave what I wanted when and where I wanted! Sometimes we'd have a student who's entire belongings were burned away in a house fire. (I taught in an inner city poverty riddled city). Sometimes I'd write a check for several hundred dollars. Sometimes I'd get a gift certificate to a place kids like...and let them pick what they wanted or needed to replace. I found greater pleasure in lump-sum giving than a little here and there. It was just so gratifying to me to know that I really could substantially help somebody that way. Now that I'm not working, I give what I can when I can. Sometimes giving money doesn't cut it. If I have something that will meet a need, that need gets met. But I learned that lifestyle long before twi interrupted the rest of my life.
  10. Play is good. Play is very good. When you think about it, everything we do we first learned and practice during play. Don't expect me to ever grow up!
  11. Who's idea is it that Freud is attempting any reconciliation? Freud himself said something else on the original thread.... Why can't we just take these individuals at their word - at least for the present time. We were so manipulated by the organization that we seem to read ulterior motives into things where they may not be. Freud at least has stated that he's experienced in cult thinking and dynamics; I suppose therefore that he also has an idea that at least some of us would find at least partial closure in knowing where Craiggers is in his life now. Diazbro - I'm sorry this post falls directly after yours because this is not aimed at you - even though it was your response I used. It was the most convenient for me, that's all. We have such a tendency to jump and squabble and bristle at things without knowing all the facts and in doing so, we could cut off our noses to spite our faces. It looks like I'm singling you out, but I promise I was not...your statement is just an example of the negativity particularly on that other thread.

    Heart

I think some of us are still angry with ourselves for having gotten involved in the first place, or, for not seeing what was evident and acting on it. Once I was out, and had time to think for myself I found lots of things that ordinarily would have tipped me off to a scam. I didn't want to believe it because I was so brainwashed at the time. All I wanted to do was know God, love Him, and serve Him in my own life. I was duped into thinking that their way was the only way to do that. I was very ashamed of myself for that.....I wonder who else might be acting out of their own shame or sense of guilt. This is a great thread....so much to ponder. Lots of growth can come from that.
  13. I agree with Belle and Linda. I never realized why someone would have more than one screen name for a purpose other than deception. That was left over way brain from all the deception forced upon us by them. I apologize for judging you (and others) that way. In my case, it was ignorance. And I agree with Belle and Linda too that I'd like Betty to stay around. We are beginning to know you....how about giving us the opportunity to know you better.
  14. Up until the time I started reading this thread I was one of those who would have been glad to tear that man apart with my bare hands....piece by piece if necessary. Now - I'm not so sure. Is he worthy of my pitty? I dunno that either. I believe he is probably medicated. He was once seriously depressed and it may be that he is again. But the brokenness you describe lies outside that. He did fall from greatness. Are you seeing genuine remorse? I hope so because if it is genuine, he has an opportunity to make it right again at least with the Father if not with us. Or is this sorrow over getting caught? Again, I have no way to know. I would hate to see anyone with his set of circumstances go into eternity with these things not made as right as possible with God - so if you can point him in that direction I hope you will. Don't go against your own conscience though. I'm going to disengage from all my negative "evil" dreams and maybe even pray for him...not because I want to...but because it's what the Word of God says. (I read it in there once.) Thanks Freud. I would also like to hear from time to time if you are so inclined.
  15. We should tie them to a pole and use them for target practice.

    good friday

In the Protestant churches, Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday was an important holy day. We had a communion service that evening usually with a choir singing one of the many contatta's (like a short opera). From noon 'till 3 we were quiet. No TV no radio and the phone was off the hook. We could speak, but there was no "unnecessary talking". There was a service of sorts in the church at that time, and I went there when I was older.
  19. I live about 7 miles as the crow flies from ground zero. I was here. I watched it on TV while teaching a class in a Catholic High School for girls. We watched the second plane hit it's tower. It really didn't sink in until several minutes later. I've said this before but I need to say it again. You have little or no idea the effect that experience of Sept 11 had in this immediate area. I knew Jeremy Glick. He was on the PA plane. I taught him biology. I drove rt 17 every day to and from work and saw the plume of smoke. Twice a week I drove rt 208 and had an even better view of it. I don't remember how long the smoke was visible. My stomach churned on rt 208 because the view was so much better. One of my closest colleagues lived in Jersey City and she had the pleasure of the stench for practically ever in her nostrils. I will see this film. And if it is historically correct (as possible) and well done, I'll buy the DVD. And I think every household in the US should own a copy of it and play it once in a while. I'm not afraid of the feelings it will remind me of - - I've dealt with them the best I can already - a film can't be any worse than what I've already lived through. But I think that if we hide our heads in the sand and make blatant statements like we are...we play back into the hands of the terrorists. TWI had a statement about debbul spurts...."deal or be dealt with". Forget the debbul.....apply that phrase here and any other place where things get tough or where you become afraid. I think the film should have the highest restrictive rating and maybe not be shown in theaters to anyone under 21. I'm very proud that Jeremy Glick was one of my students!
  20. I'm glad to know that there are just men who walk the earth too. It seems you live in a good "neighborhood" Goey. I'm sorry for his loss too. I wonder how he'll teach his daughter some of the consequences of not paying attention all the time. I don't know her so I won't guess, but I'm sure he'll think of something so she gets the lesson.
  21. I'm sorry for your losses. You are a good man if you're only going after the dogs - - I would be after the owner(s) who didn't keep them secured against my property.
  22. Not so, likeaneagle. If the polar ice melts the water will be less salty. Ice is only frozen water - there is no salt in the water. The water freezes leaving very dense very salty water under it. The salty water is heavier than the rest so it sinks to the bottom. Water at the bottom has to move out of it's way to make room so it slides away - - toward the equator. A current is established whereby cold water moves from poles to equator (in both hemispheres) and warm water moves from the equator to the poles. Because of the earth's rotation and the shapes of the various land masses, a host of other currents are born. One of them, the Gulf Stream is important to the weather systems which visit the East Coast. Storms near the continent get caught in this current and travel along it all the way to Europe (England). If polar ice melts entirely, the salt concentration at the poles will be uniform, no sinking heavy layers....and the giant oceanic currents - all of them - stop. The greatest fishing grounds are found where the cold water upwells to the surface. Stop the currents and these fishing grounds disappear. The whole dynamic oceanic systems will change drastically. The sun also powers the wind in the atmosphere. Global warming, regardless of it's source (and I don't believe there is a single source) will produce more storms of all kinds. More heat means more evaporation which means more water vapor in the air. More heat also means faster wind speeds. Put it all together and there are more storms in all regions and they are also of greater intensity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A number of scientific studies have linked climate change with volcanic activity. In particular, particles thrown into upper atmospheric levels bounce energy back out into space so "rapid" cooling occurs over 2 - 5 years until these particles fall back down. They have also pointed to these times as times of large numbers of species going extinct.
  23. So that's where my husband learned about that...........
  24. But it is! Winter drones on day by day....and then...all of a sudden it's the Master's already. One green jacket coming right up!
