I haven't tried this yet, but my mother insisted it helps if you do them more than once a year!

Excellent news. I'm so glad he's doing well.

I believe the hot dry conditions greatly increase flea numbers. If it was me, after you're satisfied that the fleas are gone, I would hire one of those super steam carpet cleaners which have the vacuum in the truck. I would have the furniture done too. I did have a flea infestation once and I did not get the carpets cleaned when I wanted to. However, several weeks later I thought I saw one...and the next morning I felt a couple at my feet, so I did it then...and also the furniture. I also stripped all bedding and either washed it in hot water, or sent it to the cleaner....again. I admit this may have been overkill. I just have this "thing" about sharing my home with any kind of bug. You should see me squash ants!

Before you give that tenant any of her security deposit - - have a reputable person give you an estimate of the instrument's fair market value. Maybe it's "old" to you, but all things considered, it's probably just entering it's middle aged period and if it is structurally sound, and there are no problems with the action or harp, you may be surprised at the replacement value..... I would think about taking her to court for not supervising her child well enough. I would be totally livid if someone did that to an instrument I loved and played as a child - - but then, pianos are special to me. (maybe someday I'll tell you all about it)

Have you seen this? Don't let the age thing get to you! It sounds like there is a disability there....everything listed there is available to disabled people as well.

Chocolate does it for me every time! Seriously, I'm sorry you're having such a rough go....

hhhmmmmmm............ My thoughts as a mother...do I really want my kids to learn how to use plastic????? (ans) Well....it IS debit, not credit....that's ok Another thought: Bring it on - - so much less junk on the floor with all that paper money all over......

That's great news. Thanks for bringing the message Groucho!

There is no alalogy here. In one case, abortion, it is permitted by government, in this case of chemo and radiation it is being mandated. They are not the same. I wonder if the family has medical insurance, and if so, if all the young man's treatments are covered. I would hate to see them forced to change their minds and also incur insurmountable medical costs as the result.

Mark, I don't see where you're wrong either. I think I would think the same way you do. There IS a "however" though. Since this type of cancer has been shown to be nearly cureable with modern chemotherapies etc, and very little supportive evidence for other therapies, I can understand why the courts ruled this was in this case. But I don't like it. I also don't like it when Jehova's Witnesses with-hold certain treatments either, but that is their right to do so.

Thanks, Jim. I understand about the Plutonium - but it sure seems like we're wasting a whole lot of uranium and looking for places to keep it......when we could be recycling it. Is anybody anywhere recycling it?

Congratulations. Welcome to Grandparent-hood.

Would you please explain this a bit?

Sorry, Galen. I didn't realize how depressed that industry is in Maine.
-
Galen - I don't understand Maine's position on additional planting unless it is protecting it's own lumber interests and/or overall land management plan. It is interesting they they encourage conifers by removing deciduous trees. Nature does seem to allow both to grow at those latitudes in general, although the northernmost parts of Maine may be more suited to boreal forests. It is true, BTW, that the total CO2 released from dead stands is the same whether it's done by burning or the action of decay organisms. The difference is in the rate of CO2 release. When decay organisms do it, the release is about the same as the uptake by living trees, so the net increase is zero. The way this planet works amazes me all the time. All of the standing vegetation, and animal populations are made of carbon compounds and the source of this carbon is ultimately CO2 from the atmosphere. When speaking about CO2 as a greenhouse gas, we think in terms of thousands of pounds/year or more. Yet, in the real scheme of things, the average % of CO2 in the air hovers around a bit less than 0.5% - - one half of one percent of the total atmosphere by volume (at sea level, of course). Of course this has accumulated over many millions of years, however it is still an impressive accomplishment for the process of photosyntheses - - which has been calculated by bio-physicists to be around 33% efficient! These things make me scratch my head and go WOW! That impresses me.

Todd - that was an impressive list of references in the first post above. I've only checked out the last one so far, but it seems it's carefully thought out and meets genuine scientific protocol. Thanks for that. There's many thins there I haven't come across yet. With respect to Zixar's comments, I understand his position and I agree that politicians like to use this issue as a club to move us in a particular direction, and that does suck. However, the things I'm looking at don't restrict themselves to the USA alone. I'm looking globally. As far as the planet is concerned, it doesn't matter which country or continent pumps the CO2 into the atmosphere - or if it's coming from forest fires or volcanos...it's just being seriously over-loaded.
-
- - sigh - - Zixar it would have taken just a few sentences to post your ideas about global warming here. He doesn't believe it - rather - maybe the planet is a tad warmer but it's part of normal cycling - I believe that's the gist of his thoughts. Additionally, he believes politicians manipulate public thinking by using any reference to global warming for political advantage. well - - - - I needed to practice my search skills anyway! However most of the readers on this thread may not remember you clearly since we don't see you so often and I, for one....miss that.

Usually Raf is able to have the map show up directly in the post without the need of clicking on a link. Methinks the code on this bbs works differently than in previous years.

hmmmmmm - - close but no cigar! At least it's "only" a tropical storm. Raf I don't think those tricks work anymore!
