    RumRunner

Happy Birthday! One half century of running the rum is enough for any man. So from now on, get someone else to run it to you!
  2. Sometimes we forget! It wasn't the man who did anything, but God is always able to work in y-o-u. Maybe that's the solution for your dilemma?

    Science vs. God

I only taught science, I am not a scientist....but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.

    My Eagle Scout

What a great accomplishment! Congratulations to both of you. (I hope it's not bad form to say he's quite handsome) The patio is lovely and surely it will serve as a wonderful tribute for many many years. It was a great idea.

    Science vs. God

Let's not be adversaries about this. There are plenty of things to discuss without getting our collective noses out of joint because there is nothing we can physically do about either "side" of the "argument" I think Piper was talking about changes in organisms in general - "evolution". I understand where she might get this from because in PFAL it was stated "you can have all the evolution you want" between the first 2 verses of Genesis. "Species" is not an arbitrary term at all. The line between them is reproduction. Two organisms are of the same species if they can reproduce together AND have fertile offspring. Horses and Donkeys are separate species, therefore. They can breed together, but the result is a Mule and they are sterile. This is only partly true. But those of us who are "ordinary" citizens see it being true more than not. Theories begin when somebody gets an idea about how some things are related. A brief example: I notice that bees can be trained to a bowl of sugar water if I put it in a certain place at a certain time of day. Pretty soon they will be there waiting for me to come with the bowl. Then somebody says....if I move the bowl, will they find it? So they do an experiment and find, yes indeed, it doesn't take long, but they do find it. Then somebody says....I wonder how they see it, I wonder if they see color, after all all the flowers have colors so I'll put the sugar water on some colored backgrounds and find out. And yes, bees can be trained to respond to color. So once trained to red, a bunch of bees were unleashed on various colors and they remembered the red! Nobody started out thinking up the theory that bees can see color. BTW - bees don't see color the way we do....they see various shades of grey, and will land on a black square just as often as a red one. However they do respond to ultraviolet light....and that's something we can't see with out naked eyes....hmmmm. Most theories get modified over time and a great many are accepted as "Truth" because there is no way to really test them in all conditions and circumstances. or, a means exists but it is impractical or unethical to do the experiment. ...sorry for rambling....but you guys know by now how this stuff grabs me

    Thank you ALL

He's got all his facets and polishing from where I sit! He's a brilliant gem. I hope to be around to see you gain 20 pounds....at least! And I'm glad you're free and can live in peace. That in itself is a joy and a blessing.

    Sudo's 5 x 3 card

Sudo is an instigator! He instigates fun!! He's got enough silly stories and jokes to keep you laughing all day. He loves making people laugh and I appreciate that. Sometimes I think he actually plots and plans out ways to sneak something funny into a conversation or a thread on Nostalgia! Yepper, Sudo is guilty of premeditated instigation of silliness and fun as well as genuine caring about people.
  9. Welcome chiwawa! It's nice to see you - - make yourself at home here and enjoy the conversations.

    9/11

Me too Excathy. There are times when I wonder if there will ever be a day that I don't think about it! But not everybody feels this way. Those that weren't in the thick of it, can't really understand what it was like. This is not to put them down or off - - but just a statement of what I believe. Those who weren't here can only imagine.
  11. Wonderful! Both the warning, and the memory of Erma Bombeck!
  12. You guys have to stop posting links like that! I spent half the afternoon checking it all out! It's too fascinating to just let it go! Now I'm behind schedule...but that's ok....it was worth it to me!
  13. I don't take many long trips anymore, so usually once/month does it for me. And I fill it at my favorite place. In the winter, I also try to keep it close to full, so I stop more often.
  14. I agree with Mark here. I would report them because in hanging the sign, they're advertising a "service" they have no intention of giving, and then they make you pay for it. That's plain wrong.
  15. I forgot how long you're out now Piper! But that was much like it was for me when I starte getting it together again.GSC wasn't around then and I really felt alone and it was scary. So much of my life revolved around the organization that I almost wasn't sure what to do with all the time on my hands. The first thing I did was slow down all the other things in my life that I had to rush through and take stock of what was important and what was not. Then I appreciated all the time (to say nothing of the money) I had found for myself and began to resume some of my favorite things that had been put on hold. It's good to be praying about this because God has not left you, in fact, sometimes I even felt He was a bit closer with all the garbage gone. I liked your poem too. Some people have a way with words that I don't, so I appreciate it when I see it. It looks like you're beginning to rebuild already. Congratulations!
  16. I'd me very annoyed too! Sounds like bait and switch to me.I think I would probably tend to report him too. I'm not into outting every little offence, but this looks like a deliberate cheat effort and I don't think I'd let it go.

    Confession of sins

I agree with everyone. Mstar's point about history is really good. We all do have one and most of us would rather keep the seamy sides of our lives in the closet. But I've come to realize that growing out of those seamy sides sometimes make us who we are now. Learning those thins to overcome our "badness" is the beginning of our strengths. You're a strong woman, so you've overcome. And I'm proud to share a BBS with you anytime. Hat's off to your bravery too.
  18. I emphaatically second Abi and Sushi! Some antiobiotics gain strength over time and who knows how long that one's been around. He who treats himself has a fool for a patient. I'm sorry if he doesn't want to go there, but he really needs an ER or an after hours clinic. Please don't let him fool around with this.
  19. I don't remember much from that time period except the 40th Anniversary spectacle. We went to Boston. There seemed to be a prize for the bc/tc who could get most of "his people" there because I remember a whole lot of pressure to get us there. We went, and we had a good time more or less. The banquet was a little over the top for me, though. I had been primed for a great banquet but it was nothing more than scarfing down an "ordinary" restaurant meal so lots of people could talk at me. I was disappointed, but maybe the dancing afterwords was fun, we had kids to put to bed so we left early. We let them swim off some pent-up steam first in the hotel pool. I was very impressed with the last meeting we attended. It wasn't the last of the weekend, because we left early. There was quite a snowstorm blowing in and there was quite a lot of stuff on the ground already by that time on late Sunday morning. VP took the microphone and announced that if people would stay for the rest of the weekend, TWI would pick up the tab for anybody who couldn't get home and needed another night in the hotel (we were supposed to check out sometime in the afternoon, I think). I don't know if anybody took him up on that offer, there was no way we could stay anyway. It would be interesting to find out if anybody did have that need and what happened. Husband crabbed all the way home ( it was a long grueling drive for the most part) and was so disappointed at the event that he was loath to attend any other major function for a very very long time.

    cellphones

I don't hate 'em, but I don't like the way a lot of people use them. If I'm doing something around, I don't usually mind somebody calling me, but I don't like it in the car and in a few other places where I don't like interruptions. Sometimes people who know you have a cell phone think they can call you whenever.....and they persist when you tell them it's not good to talk now - - like when I'm driving. So I've just learned to turn mine off at those times. Also, if you're having a face to face conversation with someone and they take a call and chat for a few minutes, I think that's just plain rude! I wish other people would do the same - especially in places like concerts and movie theaters. I realize some people need to be instantly informed if something happens (like doctors) but they can put their phone on vibrate and they know they have to take a call, and the rest of us don't have to know about it! Also the way people drive around here, if there's a phone attached to their ear, Bluetooth or otherwise, it's downright scary being on the same road as they are. Even though we now have a law about that very thing, for the most part I think people around here ignore it. But - I do generally like mine. It has bailed me out of a jam more than once. I even think kids should have one for general safety and communication with home.
