    This is Not So Nice

I copied this from a support group I belong to. I was really surprised, but I shouldn't have been ========================================================================== YUK read it; you'll be shocked.... Have you ever noticed gals who sit their purses on public restroom floors - that go directly to their dining tables? Happens a lot! It's not always the restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes "what you don't know 'will' hurt you"! Read on... Mom got so upset when a guest came in the door and plopped their purses down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up the buffet. She always said that purses are really dirty, because of where they have been. Smart Momma!!! It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our purses, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Shauna Lake put purses to the test - for bacteria - with surprising results. You may think twice about where you put your purse. Women carry purses everywhere; from the office to public restrooms to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their purses, but did you ever stop to think about where your purse goes during the day? "I drive a school bus, so my purse has been on the floor of the bus a lot," says one woman. "On the floor of my car, probably in restrooms." "I put my purse in grocery shopping carts, on the floor of bathroom stalls while changing a diaper," says another woman and of course in my home which should be clean." We decided to find out if purses harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, then we set out to test the average woman's purse. Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their purse. Most said they usually set their purses on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared. Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their purses were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out purses are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked. Microbiologist Amy Karren of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the purses tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the purses could make people very sick. In one sampling, four of five purses tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. "There is fecalcontamination on the purses,"says Amy. Leather or vinyl purses tended to be cleaner than cloth purses, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier purses than those without, with one exception. The purse of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. "Some type of feces, or even possibly vomit or something like that," says Amy. So the moral of this story - your purse won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your purse at home and in restrooms, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop. Experts say you should think of your purse the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your purse on the countertops" - your purse has gone where every individual before you has spat, coughed, urinated, emptied bowels, etc! Do you really want to bring that home with you? The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a purse will help. Wash cloth purses and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather purses. THIS IS WORTH SHARING!!! Budd

    play station 3

I'm not really convinced the shortage isn't real. Anybody want to change my mind? I'd appreciate it.
  3. They are gonna pay for this I'm afraid. Somebody is going to come down on them and really hard too -- probably demanding to know where they "blew it". If they are renting the home....they possibly had no idea about the chimney cleaning or the wood, for that matter. But if they own it - - they probably had to buy less exxpensive unseasoned wood to say in their tight budget 'cause they abs so much! I'm always sorry when somebody loses property to a fire aned I'm truly thankful nobody was hurt. I hope things can be fixed well enough so they don't have major drafts coming in this winter. But I do think I'm afraid for them as to how their "overseers" will spin this. So - I'm praying Father protects them from all that.
  4. ...yeah - - but the shame of that is, like so many other things.....they're going to be read and talked about and THEN auctioned off at eBay for a huge profit! But at least only the reader makes that profit.
  5. Stubborn ain't so bad - - I'd call it "tenacious" or maybe "persistent". Just follow your own suggestion and you'll get much better responses to your posts. Socks - when you get done there, would you mind coming over here? There's a Pteridactable over here who's stealing nuts from the squirrels and making a real mess of my cherry trees! Thanks .

    Baghdad Update

My hat is off to you too Oilfield. Your work is important and you do it well. I'm proud to know you., Also happy the wife is on the road to full recovery also. It's very good to hear from you - will you please try to do it more often as time allows. krys

    Dats or Cogs?

But let's just suppose the chromosomes don't come out either or! Each cat egg will have 18 and each dog sperm will have 39. (Chromosomes exist in pairs, and only 1 of each pair is in the gamete - just reminding you in case you forgot HS bio). So what will you think IF the result shows there are 57 chromosomes....18+39? Personally - I really think this is much a-do about nothing too. But suppose Garth's "cold hard science" counts 'em up and they don't get an expected number! Just wondering.....hmmmmmmm (that's the scientist in me)
  10. I know where you can find a few - - kinda scant on the feather's tho

    Feed Your Head

Yessiree - - -she gets my vote! She's a real woman, I mean that. Most people have a really hard time "recovering" from being in the limelight - but she just moved on and lived her life. You have to give credit where credit is due.
  12. Anniversaries are very special - especially THAT number. Not too many make it to that so you've done real good. Happy happy - and enjoy the time together. That 20 years of supporting each other is worth a celebration.
  13. I am astonished that such a story was printed. I'm a creationist as well, but I know too much about the fossil record of certain evolutionary lines....between camels and horses for example....having been forced once in my educational career vto carefully study the evidence and evolution of the horse. (but I digress) You know - the categories of classification...species, genus, family....they're all man made. I'm sure if the animals and plants knew about it...they'd do more to comply (toothy grin here) And - these classification categories were set long before anybody knew anything about chromosomes at all. It's not the chromosomes that make a thing what it is....it's the whole genome....meaning the total of what all the genes say. Some parts of chromosomes are known to be "nonsense" no gene there....but we do know genes are on chromomosomes. So what's the difference if someobody has 12 and somebody has 16? Not much necessarily. All the genes fit...maybe they're arranged differently...but they fit. The gene for hemoglobin is the gene for hemoglobin in Mammals. The gene for heart valves is the gene for heart valves....otherwise how could they use a pig valve to replace one of yours....and they can....and do sometimes...John Wayne had one. I don't think those puppies are cute, I think they are deformed...at least to my eye. I'm not buying this story - but I'm not yet going to call it a hoax either. I'm gonna wait for the chromosome analysis and see what it shows.
  14. Yepper - - dmiller.....that would be me! Personally I like the 2 P's; pepperroni and pineapple
  15. Thanks everybody. I guess I'm going to try all of these in due season! Yum! krys
  16. Well - - consider this: on rare occasion, the sum is greater than if you just add the parts together.

    As Bad As It Gets

I do agree with you Sudo in that too many headlines do not come close to the story they're reporting! They are sensationalized on purpose to get us to do, whatever "they" want us to do or think. But I don't think it's true in this case. I red those words not as a headline but as a caption to the photo! That's how I decided.
  18. Nope! Sorry dooje. They call him Mr. Strange because he thinks differently (also known as outside the box). THIS is the thread he means, and he wants you to reaed for enjoyment - not necessarily for content. I agree with the Strange One - so set apart some of your time and r-e-a-d from beginning to end all in one fell swoop (I wonder where that phrase came from....Linda Z?) and just allow the endorphins to kick in. You'll be glad you did.

    As Bad As It Gets

I thought the same thing you did Linda Z. It was related to the man in the photo. Newspapers only have so much space to print stuff. They're not going to have room for much of anything other than this kind of reporting at this time, so close to the event. They still have people missing!
  20. Aawww c'mon you guys -- you DO want the Goldman's and the Simpson's family to get their money don't you? How else do you think O.J. to raise that kind of money! Show a little compassion here!!!
  21. Anybody out there have a good recipe? I love all kinds of soups....but I don't know how to make this kind. I like it thick, mostly smooth and with ham in it.
  22. It's back! I did poorly!!!
  23. krys

    Thanks

Did anybody take time recently to thank a Vet for his/her service? Now would be good! Thanks - I appreciate what you do - did - will be doing krys
