Waysider you have no idea! You haven't really lived until you've had to sit through at least one of those screaming fits.
-
How cool it must be for your daughter to invent something that actually saves lives. You must be proud of her. Congratulations on pursuing new dreams. That's one of the greatest benefits of getting older - - getting to have new dreams!
-
I'm glad you are OK now and that your electricity is back. You don't get storms like that often do you?
-
I remember when I was young, my dad always had something to say about whether the groundhog saw his shadow or not.. kinda a big deal to him.. maybe just a well deserved vacation from reality with a moment of sheer lunacy.. I think I inherited whatever "it" is.. I think you're right Hammy!
-
Okay Hammy, I'll count with you. After all, squirrels are entitled to have fun too! Just be careful. Groundhogs are bigger than you!
-
Congratulations Raf! Do you know if it's a son or a daughter?
-
George: they got such a good deal when they bought those 50 bolts of cloth, so what if everything is the same color! We can't be wasting the believer's money now....can we?
-
Folks, unless you are in your 50's, lived in California, I have my doubts you were part of the "social experiment" those well meaning California psychologists put the children through way back then, if it wasn't sugar cubes for polio, "Co-educational PE", it was IQ tests..yep, I am still damaged goods, one childhood dream never done, never accomplished....... Why not give it a "go" now???

I always wanted to be a teacher and I got to do that!

I think it's about 22 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training (Mets)

Now if someone is "too poetic" and "too intellectual" for you I suppose that is a backhanded compliment of sorts. Fair enough. However instead of asking him to downgrade - why don't you try upgrading yourself?!?!?! An excellent life strategy no matter which one of life's avenues an individual pursues.
-
I'm with George! If I could post another, I'd answer too.

I think I would miss it too Oakspear. Maybe now would be a good time for Mr. Tuckett to reconsider permanently banning those who's claim to fame is stirring the pot to evoke turmoil. Methinks that would be helpful. Learn the phone numbers of those offensive callers and when those numbers show up on caller I.D. don't pick up. Create a rule in your address book in whatever email program is your favorite which dumps the emails of your antagonists to your circular file. For all this time, Pawtuckett has provided GSC for us, according to what we wanted ("hey Paw, can we have a picture forum????") Of course he had his reasons for doing it, and none of those reasons had even a single hurtful thought in them. I don't understand all the in's and out's of running a website-forum such as this, so I know this is an oversimplification - - - maybe now is the time for Pawtuckett to align the Cafe with Burger King and have it HIS WAY.

I think I understand what you're thinking. I believe you'd do better to change your perspective and think of it as an adventure and enjoy the idea of everything being new. It doesn't have to be scary. I can't speak for other parts of the country, but I know that one of the best things I ever did for my self was move out west to New Mexico. I didn't take much with me. I sold most of what I could and gave the rest away. I was looking forward to new dishes (sick of washing the same old that I'd had for decades), new bedding, a whole new scenery.....everything. Embracing the change can make all the difference. As it turned out, things turned themselves around, and I am back with my family again - - but -- I really really miss the lifestyle in the south west. I know Arizona is not New Mexico, however those 2 are more similar than Long Island and, New Jersey are!! (Long Island used to be my old stomping ground....I went to SUNY Stony Brook) If you explore the places you might relocate in, look for some of the fun things to do as well as standards of living, kinds of apartments...etc. I didn't use it at the time, but now I would use Craig's List as part of my exploration. (You'll get a good idea of apartments there because many come with photos). If you can re-tool your brain to look for excitement and "wonder" instead of dread, you'll have a ball AND a successful relocation if you want or need it.

I don't believe GSC has jumped the shark. However, I think it is time you closed it down. You have more than paid a debt to society by starting it and running it. It is your turn now. It must be your turn or else you will never get one. Take it.....now. There are still things that could be said and explored, but if somebody is that adamant.....let them do it. In my heart of hearts I think you know how I feel about you. I'm an "old lady" now. I've worked at a lot of things in a lot of places and I have found with very very rare exception......there is nobody who is so important that he can't be replaced. Leave the posts as written. Folks can find a huge education here. Lock the door on your way out and toss the key in the ocean so you're not tempted to take it back. Your blood pressure does not need this. (not that you have high blood pressure....it was just an example). You don't need any more ulcers. You deserve to sleep a full 8 hours at night. You deserve to spend your own money how you like. You deserve a chick. I'm sorry if folks get offended at what I've said. If you do get offended....then YOU are the ones who should take over the full running and funding of this site! From where I stand, it seems that GSC has become your prison. It's high time you were paroled! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it . I love you Pawtucket!

I love it......every precious syllable!

Yes indeed! You did very good. Congratulations!

This year gifts for children only....plus 1 adult gift. Genderless worth about $20. Wrapped. Around the dinner table we will pass a bucket and each one will take a number out. After dinner - - the children get their gifts...... The genderless boxes are pooled on the floor....then.....we start with # 1. #1 picks a gift - opens it. #2 can pick a gift OR take #1's gift....and then #1 gets to pick again. So it continues. Anyone can either pick a present OR take a gift. Methinks this should be fun. We may be as many as 22 - 26!

Matilda - you are one wonderful and lovely lady! Congratulations on having arrived at another b/d. I wish you many many dozens more!

Did you go out with a bang, or silently into the night?

Here it is again! Maybe it's time to bump this up. It seems like there are some newer folks around since July. Re-read all about it. Or save some time and start at post 15. -

I left quietly but my son didn't! -
I hear ya! And I pretty much agree with ya too!!! I'm not as well versed in product research as you appear to be - - but I do know that one of our Presidential candidates this election cycle actually announced that he favored nuclear power plants. Now, they are clean, for sure. However...we still haven't figured out what to do with the spent waste from those existing plants in this country. I believe it is most unwise to build more of them until we do!! There is a nuclear power plant on Long Island in the villiage of Shorham. It was built at I forget how many billions of dollars and HAS NEVER OPENED because the NY State gov won't allow it to open until or unless the derive an appropriate evacuation plan for the surrounding area in the event of a catastrophe. There is no way to evacuate Long Island from that far out.....without funnelling through NYC. IMNSHO that would take a minimum of a week or two at 24/7 operation. If we get our chemists working on cleaning up coal cheaply enough (not cheap) we could halt ALL petroleum imports the very next day ! We own the lion's share of the world's best coal. Coal mines collapse because the owners won't shell out the $$ to make them safe since they are forced to sell the coal so cheaply. So - - who's killing whom? While I was working, it was mandatory for me to live a certain life-style. Now that I'm retired, I don't and I haven't bought a new piece of clothing (other than underwear) in more than 1 year. This winter I will need to replace somethings. Oh well....nothing lasts forever.

If you have children, it would be a good idea to find the person in charge of the Sunday School and ask to see the curriculum. I know that most of the major denominations use the same one...that is....Presbeterians use the same....not all denominations use the same one. But each denomination does settle on one. Children need the instruction. I don't think I could have done a good job teaching my own kids, unless I had some kind of curriculum to follow. (If I had to change parts of it, I would)

How many shakes do you drink in a day?
