There are so many unknowns about this flu, that I'm not surprised if people are building up fear about it. NLL-ing - - "bubble bath" - - I love it! I believe the WHO has changed its name to H1N1, which is it's scientific name. Too many who call it "swine flu" are getting all mixed up over what this disease is, and what it isn't. Egypt ordered all the pigs in the country slaughtered and there is no reason for it. Actually, earlier this evening I found this flu was never suspected to be in any swine anyway. It is a human flu with a few peculiar genes. If you're really tempted to be afraid of this flu....ask yourself - - - would I be a-f-r-a-i-d if I caught a mild case of ordinary winter flu? I doubt it! Pretty annoyed maybe. I wouldn't be happy if everything but my hair hurt for a few days and I ran a high fever! But it doesn't seem that this flu is that bad here. Nobody knows why it has killed so many in Mexico. Ordinary flu kills too! But this flu seems to only last a few days. It's NOT Ebola! Ebola kills almost everybody it catches. This is a flu. You're not crazy if you're uneasy about this flu thing. That's normal because it's almost totally unknown. But - - fear is really another story.....I think!

I don't think anyone is with-holding anything from you. It is prudent to close the schools so that the potential for spread is reduced and those who are ill, especially those who are infected but not showing symptoms yet can have the disease run it's course. When the incubation period [estimated to be between 2 and 7 days] is factored in, any information which is correct today is already almost a week out of date.

Creepy indeed my-favorite-Linzee. I just had one of those eerie shudders that starts between your shoulder blades and then runs up the back of your neck. If the world knew then what it knows now....I wonder what it would have done then!

Congratulations Ham! I'm sure you're qualified. I hope you love it......cause otherwise you'll be miserable doing it. But I think you'll love it. Your potential students are indeed lucky to have you teach them! Enjoy them, and enjoy academia!

I agree with you Dooje! I don't watch as much as I used to. I do enjoy the documentary channels such as Science Channel and Animal Planet.....and I love the golf match and occasionally a Met's game. The sports play out as the game goes...but I'm sure there are things I'm not seeing on the other channels I enjoy because somebody doesn't want me to see it. Much of this is relatively new revelation to me....however I was dumbfounded this week when Tues and Wed became all about Archbishop Doyle. Somebody was even willing to donate time to broadcast a mass both days! There are plenty of good movies though, if you go looking and have a tivo to record the best ones at 3 am and then watch at your convenience (fast forward through the commercials)

I don't have mine either. I left it somewhere without meaning to. I'm sorry it's gone because I had the Oxford and there were several note pages in it. A few people wrote some things in there for me, and I would like to still have that.

:eusa_clap: HAM you took the words (almost) right out of my mouth! If I can go back to school for needle arts to earn a certification, and you went back to school for teaching credentials, anybody who wants to do anything......can probably do it IF they learn to reason and write reasonably well (at least better than I usually do!)

If you are an innie and don't want to be found out by your leadership that you post here, or even read here, you might like to send Oakspear the message in a private message. To do that, put your pointer on his name at the left, and select "send message ". He is a worthy man and will not leak your private credentials to anyone.

Ham spat them both out for they were excessively evil tasting! More foul smelling green goo dripped from those wounds too. Since it was still daylight, Harry started toward the offices to locate "rosie". As he limped down (up?) Weirweille Road he heard water running and when he lifted his head he saw a pretty fountain. Even ghouls enjoy a cool drink but as he stooped over to drink he saw the graves on his left.He climbed the hill thinking of the good old days and thought he'd stop in and say hello to Dotsie but then decided he'd better clean up first in rosie's pool. He continued up the road. Way in the distance he saw a golf card speeding toward him. Who the #)^% is that he thought as he...

With sweat pouring down my face, I tossed my Lucky Strike on the ground and... brought both of my hands up on my face trying to evade the awful stench. The green ooze dripping from the ghoul was the most foul smelling stuff I had ever smelled. I had to get out of it's way; but every which way I turned, the ghoul followed me so that I thought my nostrils would never be free of the fetid stuff. The faster I walked, the faster it came on to me. Finally, breathless from running and from trying to avoid any attempt at inhalation - - I stood my ground. I raised one pointed finger and with my loudest booming bass voice clamored for the ghoul to halt. He slowed a bit but did not stop. Finally I shouted at him..."Harry, stop right there where you are"! Believe it or not - but he stopped, right there on the crack in the sidewalk! "Whew..." I thought, "but what do I do for an encore?" I swallowed hard, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. "Harry, who do you want?", I said! "I don't want you Groucho"...he gurgled "I know who you are". I want........

Happy Birthday! This is one day when you can have your cake and eat it too.....so enjoy!

........and everyone except the upper echelon, of course, worked. In times past, they'd work half a day, and study half a day....but not anymore. Their lessons were put on their ipods and they worked all day doubling both the work output and the studying. And of course there was more than just corn to tend to. There were rabbits to clean, eggs to collect from under the chickens, horses to shoe and pigs to slop. If you happened to live in Indiana for that block, you were in double trouble since the great cherry tree near the door to the chapel had lost one of it's largest limbs under the weight of cherries last year, and the ever present work boss was snapping the whip to help you keep up lest this should happen again another large limb be sacrificed. Of course the best chore was saved for last.....just before dinner, the last work group was led into the barn where they would kill the remaining 500 chickens by strangulation and then remove the feathers. Finally, just before dinner, there was just enough time for a 10 minute shower (if you hurried) and then it was time to gather in front of the dining room for dinner and the requisite sing before hand. Once on line....today's worker's were upset to find that..............

We have 2 commandments: love the lord thy God with all thine heart, mind, soul and strength AND thy neighbor as thyself. She's an example of the second part.

Watered Garden you're also right on with your comment. I saw that film, and that wasn't the only "right-on" scene in it. Throwing money at the schools won't help. I agree. But assigning funds for specific purposes will go a long way toward helping. Spend what is necessary to fix out dated electrical or plumbing systems. Put on a new roof. Tear out the out-dated kitchen and replace it with more functional appliances and you'll have a better lunch program. If there are sufficient funds for additional classrooms and teachers to staff them, the over crowding is removed making every teacher more effective. Generally speaking throwing money at a problem doesn't do anything. "Throwing" implies [to me] not much care in what you're spending it on. But if one assesses the real needs and addresses those, you may be surprised how much of an improvement you can make.

Washn'wear: I think maybe that High Schools quitting on the kids is more unpatriotic than vice versa. Not all schools are this way. But when we start them off in Elementary in overcrowded classes and curriculum purchased by sycophants hammered by publisher lobbyists that is inadequate in its sequence and scope, and then force the teacher who didn't learn anything but the different philosophies of "education" - (the religious aspect of education) what do they in Washington expect? That is more like the truth! In my experience, which is all I can speak for, when students don't meet the standards....the standards are lowered so that they do pass. Such a dis-service. If competent teachers cannot work with some students because others are being too disruptive, or because there are too many youngsters in a class room, the kids suffer. In my opinion - and I'd welcome any other opinions or insights as well here - all of this in these inner cities has its roots in extreme poverty, gangs and drugs. After things beat you down long enough, one no longer has much fight left to keep getting up and fighting another day. That does carry over to teachers as well. When the city doesn't have the funds to repair and maintain the buildings, it's easy to slip into depression. Who can be happy teaching in a classroom with 2 broken windows, or shade which don't work. How do you get students to behave when some of the desks are broken or have parts missing...and that is supposing you have enough desks for each of the students assigned that period.
