I appreciate having these things such as on your site available to read. BUT I am astounded, to put it mildly, that the addresses of the participants is there...wide open. Do you have permission to publish their addresses? Is it necessary for legal reasons to do this? Maybe it would be better to make a copy of this document and black out their addresses. I think that would be the kind thing to do.

Well now, that really depends on excacly what you're measuring. When it comes to diamodns and saphires, well....some say the bigger the better. However...I would want to wear such a beautiful gem, and a 12 carat saphire or diamond is something I could possibly put on my neck only -- such a thing would cause me great mobility issues if it was on a finger, where I would prefer to display it. In my case, I have small fingers, short ones....so 1 -- 2 carats in the saphire would be best....and - depending on shape and cut...about 1 or even a tad under would be my preference on a finger. Zits and warts are always better small, if you have to have them at all.

I was speaking to a colleague of mine who teaches in a Catholic High School nearby. It has won awards for being a Blue Ribbon School. I worked there for a short time filling in as a long term sub while a friend of mind had surgery. This is an excellect school. Well run. Minor discipline issues and almost none of them occur in the classrooms. Students actually study! And when there was a discussion in my biology classes...everybody participated. If they didn't have something to say, the participated by very attentive listening and note taking. My friend told me today..."they are banging down the doors" to get in there. There are presently 4 sets of parents who phone every week, asking for vacancies in more than one grade. Somebody may move away....someone may be expelled...someone may drop out or be asked to leave for poor grades....they call every week hoping. Perhaps sometime they will be satisfied. Home scooling is not the only answer. If you can find a well run private school that you can afford - - go for it.

Yes, I've had one for quite some time. It is quite superior.

How big of a splash did you make when you left twi?

I remember NY in that time period very well. I had a relative leave solely because VF said so. We talked on the phone from time to time, but because I was unwilling to leave also it seems that they (relatives) M&A'd us. One of them became gravely ill and I wanted to visit, as one would for someone in that family situation who was so ill, but was asked not to come. Shortly afterward, at the time of death, they did call us and give us the final details and we went to the wake, and the funeral the next day. When we walked into the room at the wake, I noticed that there were at least 4 men watching ur every move. One even tailed me to the ladies room. I'll be forever thanful for what our tc did the following day, the day of the funeral. He took the day off to accompany us there. He drove, understanding how broken up we could be. When these guys recognized our tc, their backs stiffened. I felt such a strong sense of animosity - - as if these guys (not the remaining family) would have rather kept us away because we were M&A"d in their eyes, but they ha the good judgement to not interfere. I could understand the other part of the family leaving if they could have or would have given me a reson other than somebody said so. I had no knowledge of what was going on so I was realy confused. When I think back on those few months, it still hurts even though I now have a better handle on the big picture. To leave becaue you have a real genuine difference between you and them is one thing...and even though I wouldn't leave twi at the time, I would have understood their actions even if I didn't agree. Being kept away, at such an "emotional" distance because VF said so, makes no sense, and now, I'm still angry. -

That is very good news! All I'll need to do is get some better speakers and I will get the new monitor now! May as well make life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Thank you all very much! See how good your collective advice was 3 years ago??? WordWolf, I'm on my way -consider yourself PT'd! I appreciate the offer too!

Hello all ye tekno-savy people! Last time I upgraded to this one (3 years ago) you guys made suggestions that I followed....and I'm very pleased with the result. So I'm asking again. Since this is 3 years old....I'm conscious of the hours it's been up and running, and thinking it could poop out in a heartbeat, hence the "need" to upgrade. I want more speed...I'm running AMD Athlon about 1.2 GHz and 512 RAM. I will be installing a web cam (for family use - and suggestions on this are great too). I want as much RAM as I can get I think. I use 2 graphics programs regularly, one for photos and one for needlework designing and the needlework one is "hefty" and a little sluggish on this one...and I will be upgrading that one so I'll need more "oomph". I don't have a separate audio CD player, and I spend most of my time in the "office" anyway, so I'd like to use the computer for music since I tend to leave it on all the time anyway. I need an awesome sound quality (including speakers). My office is, however small (12X15) so I don't need to fill up a large room with sound...but I have a "tuned" music ear and little details are what I listen for in music. I don't anticipate making DVD's, although it may be possible that will change (home movies of grandchildren) I will be upgrading my monitor as well but at the moment, my "old" Viewsonic E95 is sufficient - so I can wait a few months for a flat screen...to save space, and I think I will be able to see it better. (I have 2 slow growing cataracts and glare is a big problem...but I need to wait a while to have them taken care of....Eye Dr's suggestion....now is not the time.) I went to www.cyberpowerpc.com because I was so pleased with them last time...but I am totally in the dark now! I understand nothing...but what I'm looking for seems like a gaming machine to me....but I'm not a gamer! Please help!?

Who - hoooooo - - oh THEEEE - - - Haul your keg of Guinness over to the Photo Forum and set a spell.
-
Hey - THE! I suggest you take your Guinness and honker over to Cowgirl's "Colors of Fall" thread and drink it all in.
-
Cowgirl - these are all so gorgeous. I would hate to see them disapear at some point down the line. I would like to see you open an album in the "Pictures Forum". It would be there a whole lot longer....and your work is so cool....that you could post other stuff there too. This is a treat!

I'm running an AMD AthlonXP 1800+ 1.54 GHz 512 MB of RAM and I installed SP2 and hate it! My computer is soooooo slow....but that could be because I'm only at 1.54 GHz...so maybe I notice it more. I watched it install itself...and it did set its own restore point.... I have NAV, infact I have Norton Internet Security, and a spyware detect and destroy program. Do you think I really need this SP2 thinggie? All suggestions will be welcomed, especially if I can understand you....I'm better than the average bear in terms of computer knowledge, but not as smart as y'all!

I'm having trouble finding an RV to rent....that's a popular weekend! Still lookiing!
-
Looking forward to it. Hope all things hang in there! Health must remain stable etc.

It looks like a big park...how will I recognize your cabin? How will I find it?
-
I've noticed it - except that it depends on where you live. Children learn what they live...I forget who wrote that poem, but it does represent the facts pretty well. Sometimes I think back and say....I wish things were the same as when I was younger...and then I realize that would be terrible! I do believe that too many people don't seem to embrace the values I do...and many of you too! Is it our up-bringing? Training in twi? I know that facet of our society exists, and sometimes it seems prominent, but I'm not willing to say that "it" is a pervasive force in our "day and time".
-
I really want to be there. If I am as good as I am today, or even close....I will be. I don't want to be the center of attention, that would spoil everybody's fun. But I believe we can take care of each other very well. I want to meet all of you guys too! :)-->
-
I forgot that Oak - thanks for stating that. It takes me quite a while, sometimes to walk from one place to another. I wonder if I could park the RV where most of you will be sleeping and just not use hookup features... Yes, I did say brownies...but it is premature to start salivating.
-
It is under serious consideration. If things are then as they are now....I will be there. However, lots depend on how I'm doing when we get closer to the date. I'm not willing to promise....but I'll come as close to that as possible - given the nature of things. I'll think of something to contribute for the good of all when we get there. I'm reluctant to say "I'll bring the brownies" because if I don't feel well enough.....there will be no brownies. I know you'll understand.
-
welll - maybe I'm a weenie.....I am disabled, so distance could be an issue.....please tell me how much distance is there between where you guys are gonna hang out, and the campsite where I m-i-g-h-t park an RV!? estimate...I will not fire you if you're off by 10 feet - more or less :)-->
-
I'm thinking - maybe - - - how far away from you would these campsites be?

My kids went to public school and I taught in a public school. I went through school in the NYC school system and I had an excellent education....of course I graduated in 1959 from HS. I had crowded classrooms and science classes with no labs....BUT every class was orderly...few discipline problems, at least those that lasted....any classroom will probably have 1 or 2 in a year. The culture is not the same now. People are not the same now. We are much too diverse to "get along" and agree on all important issues. I think that a public education across the country as a whole will have to have totally minimal standards if we depend on Washington for money etc. Japan and European countries have cultures which generally respect adults and authority - so government schools will work there because the kids know the score. Also, in terms of numbers...let's get real! How many kids does England put through school compared to US? I believe it is grossly unfair to hold major cities to the identical standards of rural scools...they don't have identical resources! Knowing what I know now, I would have seriously considered home schooling my own children IF I had all the facts then. If I were to raise children today there would be no contest...they would be home schooled "from birth".
