WD, is there anything that you feel the need to heal from or vent about concerning your time spent in twi? Most people have SOMETHING that motivates their participation in gs along those lines, a reason to come back, the draw that causes us to return and bond with like-souls or birds of a feather, if you will. I know I vented a lot my first few years. How about you? There must be some reason why you're drawn here so much. The majority of us here, I believe, are soft-hearted, caring individuals, who would love to understand you. You seem to be a soft-hearted person too on the inside. I have so many faults it's not even funny, so there's no danger of me, for example, laughing at you or ridiculing you if you say there are things you still need or want to heal from originating from your time in twi. I mean, just knowing that others went through the same things that bothered me while I was associated with the group was a HUGE relief. Because I had no idea that others experienced the same things until I came here. That's why I say there HAS to be something that has bothered you about the way twi operates that causes you to stick so closely to this place. And, there's nothing wrong with making a connection to other people who have been through the same or similar hell that you've been through. We've all been there, had those feelings, and because of the support here and possibly other places, mostly gotten over it. So, I don't think you're so different than the rest of us here except in that most of the rest of us admit what we've been through. And, yes, it was hard at first to talk about what bothered us, but it got easier and it will get easier for you, too, if you feel you could risk throwing it out there. I think you'd find that people here are more understanding than you might have imagined.

WD, I would like to dialogue with you, but you've given no real information about why you like to hang out at the cafe. What motivates you? Maybe if I knew that it would help me to understand you better...you said you haven't been getting a lot out of coming here, lately...what would you like to get out of coming here?

Gosh, thanks T-Bone! Dan, your book sounds interesting, also. My library doesn't have Elder's book, but does have Stella Cottrell's Critical Thinking Skills: developing effective analysis and argument. Has anyone read that and if so did you find it helpful?

Linda, Dot, Groucho, Rocky, I couldn't agree more. OM has softened a lot.
-
I agree, Rocky. Each poster on this thread is at a different place and has a unique perspective on applying critical thinking skills. Can't wait to hear more...

Yes, I love that painting. It's so original. Supposedly, it took him 2 yrs. to paint it. I can see why. Thanks for posting it Dooj.

White Dove said: WD, you are obviously getting something out of being here. What is it exactly? If you are getting punched in the nose all of the time, why do you enjoy coming back? What are you doing that contributes to your getting punched in the nose all of the time? What do you hope to accomplish by frequenting a forum that is paid for by a caring individual who wants to make known the abuses of twi? If you weren't there when a rape took place, then you have no say PERIOD. Only the people who were there have a say about what took place. If a rape didn't take place, but there was sex with a married clergyman, if you weren't there, you have no say PERIOD. Again, what are you getting out of your participation on this board? I thought it significant that you metaphorically compare yourself to a bull. Why do you compare yourself to a bull charging? A bull charging seeking to discredit posters who vpw abused... How does that fit with the mission of this board?

What Rocky said...

The first one that you posted...didn't realize there were so many pages. I like Seurat's painting here: undefined Haven't read past the first page, so pardon moi if someone else already posted it...

Hi everybody! Two of my favorite posters recently mentioned improving critical thinking skills and I would love to hear more on this topic. T-Bone recommended a book, can't recall it this instance, but I'm sure it's written down somewhere. But, what I'm interested in is learning from all of you critical thinkers out there is: How DO you improve those skills? Can they be learned just like math, or reading, or any academic subject? If anyone has strategies that work, say on the spur of the moment that help you to make informed decisions utilizing critical thinking, please share them with us. I tend to get turned off to sales gimmicks or books that teach "keys" (usually just so the author can sell a book and gives information that could have been written in two paragraphs - one chapter) so I'm not very interested in a list. I'm really interested in: 1- What works for YOU and 2- How did you learn to think critically (was it information in a book, did someone teach you, etc.) Some of my most important lessons in life have come from gsers so I'm all ears

I'm not sure what I think, am willing to dialogue, but chose "other." What do you think, Oeno?

Hi, has anyone ever heard of this scenario with google/amazon.com? I first asked Amazon.com to remove a book review that I did in 2001 or thereabouts. They did. Then, I asked Google to remove the dead link. They have refused everytime. One of their reasons is: So, I've contacted the third party webmaster (Amazon.com) and they've removed my review. They claim that's all they can do. It's been a year or longer and Google still denies every request I submit to remove the dead link. Oddly enough, when I google my name in quotes, there are 8 or 9 links that go to the same dead page. Here's the link that I use to make the request: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/rem...ls?urlremoval=0 Does anyone know how to get these dead links off of the net? It's been pretty frustrating dealing with Google thus far.

Good point :B) And, by the way, he never did leave--not even for a day after posting that. Your actions speak so loud I can't hear what you're saying comes to mind, but I never like to put anyone in a box, so I won't say it....

So, they're proud of Geo. Washington, huh?
-
Thanks everyone. Even though I've cancelled the trip, I appreciate all of the great advice.
-
The price is insane even with a discount.
-
no way, waysider
-
Geo, they weren't "playing" with me when I tried getting them down that way. NowISee, I'm working on getting in touch with Budget now. Waysider, you may have the solution....
-
You might want to try Al Anon. It's a recovery group for people who are affected by the insanity of other people who have made your life miserable by their addiction (in twi's case, their addiction to controlling other people). I go a couple times a month. It's free group therapy and no one is taking roll. wb

we didn't get this letter. does this mean we're off his mailing list? Yes! JAL is as he ever was...imo....

Checked out the price for an Enterprise two miles from the airport and their price for 5 days for an economy car was $184. I though tthat was a great price considering the airport's price for the same time period was $375. So, thanks Chas! this was for the last leg of the trip so I'd drop it back at the airport. But, I may cancel the trip because of umpteen complications even though it is unrefundable.
-
ouch. yeah, that's what's probably doing it...have never checked into dropping off at another location/city b4.
-
All of the suggestions sound great. Once I fly in, I'll need to drive from the airport to another city about 2 hours away to meet my brother. He has a car that he'll let me borrow for that week so I won't need the rental car after that. I'll check into everything suggested. Is it because of the 4th being a holiday? I've never run into this before. Thanks everyone, so much! wb
