  1. Not as prominent a role for the gay guy. More "on screen, deliver a one liner at someone else's expense, off screen." Huge hint in one of my previous replies. Previously discussed: was conceived as an episode in a separate movie by the sane writers. Not previously discussed: that movie was a recent answer to a question on this forum. Not saying it was THIS thread. Not saying it wasn't.
  2. Confession: I find it tempting, constantly, to answer every objection to every point I make, until every point is exhausted. i'm deliberately avoiding that temptation here. Truth is, I have no idea what to say to Rocky's post. I'm not even sure what is being asserted there. But sometimes "arguments" (for lack of a better word) don't need to be "won." Sometimes the victory is in realizing you've made your point and you do not need the last word to succeed in your original endeavor. I am grateful to everyone who participated in this thread.
  3. One actor ad-libbed literally all of his lines. His character was notable for being conspicuously effeminate (read: gay) yet not being the target of the film's jokes. Instead, he made the audience laugh at other people/situations.
  4. And seriously, Harrison Ford? Not the actor.
  5. This movie was originally conceived as an "episode" in a separate movie with the same writers. They decided to make it separately instead. Same overall tone, though. Most certainly NOT Star Wars. But not many years off.
  6. Not a horror film. Not a baseball film. Not a film you would associate with any of the stars I mentioned... except the one who eventually got the role, and then only AFTER he got the role. At which point it is the ONLY kind of film you would associate with him.
  7. Vincent Price and Christopher Lee both turned down the same role for this film. That role changed the career trajectory of the actor who eventually took it. For what it's worth: Pedro Borbon and Manny Mota never played on the same baseball team. The latter could never have pinch hit for the former.
  8. Scrap it. It was called The Bishop's Wife. It was nominated for Best Picture the same year as Miracle on 34th Street. Both lost. New clue coming up.
  9. The remake was called The Preacher's Wife. The original starred Cary Grant as the angel and David Niven as the husband.
  10. IThe lead character is an angel. The tv series it inspired was Highway to Heaven. The angel is not a title character. Remade in the 1990s as a movie starring Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston. Denzel played the angel.
  11. "My name is Robert Hawkins. It's 6:42 AM on Saturday, May 23rd. Approximately seven hours ago, some thing attacked the city. I don't know what it is. If you found this tape, I mean if you're watching this right now, then you probably know more about it than I do.”
  12. It is not Alien or any movie in that franchise
  13. Repeating a hint you all glossed right over: If you know where she likes to be, you will figure out the movie with ease. Maybe the role, likely one of the two actresses. I don't even remember the second. Where does she like to be?
  14. you are taking my clues way too figuratively
  15. It means what we want it to mean when we want it to mean it. In this case, no one else was gonna jump in. :)
  16. The bonus round again: Two women in Oscars history have been awarded for playing the same character. Unlike the other characters we discussed, this was a case of one movie being a remake of the other. Not a reboot. Not a prequel. Not an older version of a younger character or vice versa. Same character in the same story. Name the movie, the character or either actress.
  17. We have a 3 way tie. Give me either. The movie, the role, or one of the actresses from the bonus round to take this round.
  18. Another Oscars question. In the history of the Oscars, only three Christmas movies have ever been nominated for Best Picture. Two of those nominations came in the same year. This is the least well-known of the three. Not saying it's obscure. It's just that the other two are far better known. This is going to sound confusing, but bear with me. There are three major roles. The lead male role is NOT a title role. The lead female role IS the title role. The main supporting male role is referred to in the title. So I'm going to call that a title role too. That would be arguable if anyone cared to argue it. THAT SAID: The lead male and the title male were originally reversed. After the director was replaced, the new director reviewed the footage that had been shot and decided to swap them out. Both were accomplished actors whose egos were not bruised. In fact, it is considered one of the lead actor's best performances. In the 1980s, the wife of a well-known TV actor/director/producer told him that she thought this movie would make a good series. He started developing one and changed a lot of elements, but it ran for a few years. Shortly after its cancellation, he and his co-star died. Sound familiar? It should.
  19. Maybe your memory is a bit shaky. Yes, that is a monster clue. So was that.
  20. And I'm absolutely certain Mamma Mia 2 was not released in the 1990s, did not win Best Picture, Best Director... CERTAINLY not best ORIGINAL song... Now, think, how many best picture winners featured two people playing the same person at different ages. I believe that the clues will go on.
