Clarification: "Every one of these quotes touches on a theme. The theme is the name of the movie." That applies to the three quotes in the preceding post. The earlier quotes are from the same movie, but do not touch on the theme.

With the Proviso that I did not express a completely thought out argument, yes.

Aaaaaaaaaand now it's stuck in my head.

"It sounds like a boy Garry's age needs a man around the house." "Well, it depends on the man. I had a man around. He used to wake me up every morning by flicking lit cigarettes at my head. He'd say, 'Hey, a--hole, get up and make me breakfast.' You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, or drive a car. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish! But they'll let any butt-reaming a--hole be a father." ... " I didn't know myself until a couple of months ago. You see, a few years ago, I was living in Vegas with this girl. Showgirl. She was in that show 'Elvis On Ice'. Anyhow, we drifted apart, as people do in these complicated times, and then a couple of months ago, she shows up with Cool and tells me "You watch him. I shot someone. I have to leave the country."... That's a parent?" ... "You don't talk like a kid." "Yeah, well I'm not really a kid." "You're not a duck." "This is a memory of when I was a kid. I'm 35 now. I have kids of my own. You don't even really exist. You're an amalgam." "A what?" "A combination of several ushers my dad left me with over the years. I combined them into one memory." "Why?" "This was a great symbolic moment of my life. My father dumping me with you... it's why I swore things would be different with my kids. It's my dream. Strong, happy, confident kids." "That's great, that's great. You know, you - you got a lovely family, and I'm a g-d-amalgam!" Every one of these quotes touches on a theme. The theme is the name of the movie.

Lou is the only one not to make it out of his 30s. He was the only one in that group who was not alive when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Posting my thoughts on the difference between soul and spirit, from Tom G's thread in doctrinal. I don't think soul and spirit are the same, Biblically. But I also think they are invented concepts entirely, and that is why it is so difficult to distinguish between them. It's like comparing the nutritional qualities of lembas bread and pumpkin pasties. They don't exist in real life, so you can say anything you want about either of them. I suspect "soul" was the ancients' way of saying "consciousness," and they did not quite understand that the "soul" is nothing more than a function of the body. The notion of a soul as distinct from the body appears to be a later development. You don't see it through most of the Old Testament. Will expand on my thoughts if anyone is interested and/or if I've said something factually/historically incorrect and I am corrected. But my basic position is that neither the soul nor the spirit exist. We are what we are.

Biblically, I think soul and spirit are different things, with soul being primarily a word used to describe the fact that something has animated physical life and spirit being more in touch with God himself. All animals have soul. But spirit is unique to humans. I'm confident that Wierwille's distinctions were incorrect, but not as far off the mark (Biblically) as the notion that soul and spirit are synonymous. I'll signal here that I (obviously) have other thoughts that would not be appropriate for a doctrinal thread, in which we seek Biblical answers. I will post a thought or two in Picking Up Threads in the Questioning Faith subforum.

The mock trial is part of Man of La Mancha.

Considering the circumstances, I'm going to ask another mod to make the call on this one. Stay tuned.

I just found this thread. I have not read it yet. If it is political, it will be locked. But I don't want to make that decision without having read the posts

Only one person could play Danny Partridge AND Babs. Shrek. Mike Meyers

Not immensely popular. Actually a bit of a letdown. Seasons of Love should have been a giveaway, but the lyrics of tge title tune, particularly those in bold, should give you enough for an educated guess.

Catching up on Agents of SHIELD. Damn good season so far. What's everyone else's status with this show? I'm 11 episodes into season 3. There's been a major death and sort of resurrection. I'm still trying to sort that out. And I love that they made use of Powers Booth.

Take Me or Leave Me Without You I'll Cover You Today 4 U, Tomorrow 4 Me How do you document real life when real life's getting more like fiction each day Headlines, breadlines blow my mind and now this deadline, eviction or pay...

"Fully functional" was Data. You're thinking "fully operational," which is a RotJ reference, not Ep IV

Jimmie Foxx is the only one who became a pro manager, though not MLB. Not sure whether he actually said "There's no crying in baseball," though.

Tell me you at least chuckled.

In this TV series, which has run every weekday (just about) since 1987, the Caped Crusader teams up with heroes from the DC Universe to combat a host of nefarious villains intent on disrupting the lives of the Forresters and the Logans, with the fashion world of Los Angeles as the backdrop.

Do Muslims and Christians Worship the same God?
Raf replied to Oakspear's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
You guys are approaching this issue from vastly different theological perspectives. TLC, I invite you to expand your understanding to appreciate what DWBH is trying to say. DWBH, I invite you to recognize the perspective from which TLC sees the issue. TLC: "Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them, for since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature -- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." (Romans 1:19-20) So it's conceivable, even Biblical, that one may appreciate God as Creator without knowing his attributes. So a pre-Colombian Native American praying to "the Great Spirit" may indeed be honored by God, though that person could not possibly understand God as revealed in the scriptures. DWBH: Any religion can posit a Creator and call that creator "God," but once that creator is given fictional attributes, he becomes a false god by any reasonable Biblical definition. So it seems odd to say they're the same God just because they have an attribute in common. Apologies if my attempt to broker peace here is misguided. -
Not easy at all. :) I take it back. Easy.

My guess was wrong too. The actor I had in mind never played any of those roles.

Definitely have a guess, but will give others a chance
