  1. Whose murder did he facilitate before his removal? Oh, right.
  2. Just a reminder, if this argument were used in defense of any other god, you would point to it as evidence of that god's immorality and unworthiness of worship. I won't "derail" the thread further. If you want to continue, feel free to open a thread in Questioning Faith. (Note: I put "derail" in quotes because I don't think it's really a derailment, but courtesy demands taking this train of discussion elsewhere).
  3. More like, F-you, Uriah! The king was horny!
  4. Jailing David would have been immoral. WOW. Look at what theism talks us into!
  5. Umm, he's of INFINITE knowledge and wisdom. No, it's not a strawman argument. It's only a strawman argument if He's not what He is claimed to be. Which is sort of my point.
  6. If only God in His infinite wisdom had instituted a democracy instead of a monarchy. But how could he have known the ramifications of a monarchy. Oh yeah. I'll stop.
  7. Modern day Christendom would have imprisoned David for life, and possibly had him executed. The bottom line is, it would have recognized that David needed to face justice for what he did. For more on how people are more moral than Yahweh, see another thread...
  8. I'll suspend your account for a week. That should do the trick. :)
  9. You probably know this already, but that was the movie adaptation of the William Shatner episode. Made for a great moment on Third Rock From the Sun, too. Folks, PLEASE knock off the namecalling. Rrob is welcome to post here. Challenge his assertions, but let's leave the personal namecalling out of it, mmkay?
  10. Are you saying that a group of people reinforcing each other can talk themselves into a lie even though they would otherwise know better? Now WHERE have I heard THAT before?
  11. Psst. Rob... you're the guy going the wrong way on the highway. We're here for you.
  12. Agents of Shield isn't exactly being replaced by Inhumans. If I read it correctly, the shows will bounce off each other. Shield will be back.
  13. The trick is to pick something that gives away enough so that those with a passing familiarity might be able to say. hey, that sounds like such and such character from such and such movie based on that famous book by Kevin Bacon! And to do that without being TOO obvious (a reference to Sherlock Holmes would be too obvious, for example). But whatever: thread's been dormant nine years. Make it easy if you want.
  14. My book wouldn't be about TWI. I was in TWI for about 10 months. At best, 2.5 years if you count the time I spent learning about it before taking the class. And then I left along with about 90 percent of New York. Yawn. DWBH... I'd ghost write that one!
  15. I knew that. I just didn't have a next one so I shutted up. "It belongs in a museum!"
  16. Season 5 of Arrow is on Netflix. I'll be catching up soon.
  17. Actually, I found an analysis of PFAL using the mindset promoted by PFAL disproves Mike's thesis to the extent that he stayed off this board for more than a decade before returning to crap on the board and claim victory. If PFAL is God's Word, then PFAL has to live up to what PFAL defines as the characteristics of God's Word. It does not. Therefore it is not. "But yes it does!" No, it doesn't. "But I dodged and deflected and distracted for more than 10 years!" You did. And the errors are still errors. The contradictions are still contradictions. PFAL is not God's Word by PFAL's definition. That's a tough thing to escape. Ironically, you can make a decent case for PFAL being God's Word if you concede that PFAL was wrong about the characteristics about God's Word. But then it wouldn't be nearly as impressive.
  18. An observation I can make now that I was not prepared to accept a decade ago. There is NO argument to make against Mike's position that does not nullify the Bible as God's Word -- at least not by The Way's definition of "God's Word."
  19. A bit of advice to those who weren't engaged in this debate a decade ago... You're playing chess with a pigeon. No offense inten... oh, who am I kidding? Offense intended. Sorry.
  20. As far as I'm concerned, yes, they ended 10 years ago or more. We no longer have anything approaching a common frame of reference anymore, so there's nothing for me to debate. It should be noted at this point, however, that you and I are finally in agreement. I now consider the works of VPW to be just as "God-breathed" as the Bible. So I guess you win.
