It was semi-comic. Don't hurt yourself trying to figure it out. -
Thus Saith Paul
Raf replied to waysider's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
With respect to your point of view, no, I do not mean that man's understanding of Yahweh changed or that how Yahweh revealed himself changed. MY view is that Yahweh is a fictional character whose characteristics developed over time. He didn't start out as the only god. He didn't start out as all powerful. He didn't start out as all love. It's not a question of when did he reveal these characteristics to man. It's a question of when man imposed these characteristics on him, then retroactively applied those characteristics to the earlier stories about him. I was expressing MY view, and I appreciate your consideration of my other comments. -

When the rapture does take place, the world will not know it because so many people who CALL themselves Christians will still be here.

no two people had the same reasons. Sure some people didn't like the arguing. But the vast majority left without announcing anything. Their habits changed.

Since we're going there: Greasespot has fewer posters than in prior years because 1. We shut down the political threads that brought people hear to tear each other's heads off. 2. The Way International shrunk. The need for a rebuttal site shrunk accordingly. 3. People were told over and over again to "get over it." The vast majority of us did just that. Greasespot became smaller for the same reason troops withdraw from a region when the war is over. Because it's over.

I should have been more clear about this when I posted: We used to use "The Word" and "The Bible" interchangeably. Buzzard does not. He things the Bible contains God's Word, not that it IS God's Word. Just wanted to clear up what I meant. Tom, you appear to be correct about Ernest L. Martin. I was not aware of that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_L._Martin -
My problem with just about every rendition of "O Holy Night" that I have heard is... no one wants to sing the song's actual lyrics. This one comes close, but for some reason, they keep fiddling with the last part of the chorus. If you want to see what I'm talking about, start the video and read along. These lyrics are beautiful and (used to) bring tears to my eyes. I still love the song, musically and lyrically speaking. But why go to all the trouble of singing all three stanzas if you're gonna mess with them like that? V1 O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth;Long lay the world in sin and error pining, 'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;Fall on your knees,Oh, hear the angels voices!O night divine, O night when Christ was born!O night, O holy night,O night divine!V2Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand; So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,Here came the wise men from Orient land. The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,In all our trials born to be our Friend; He knows our need, To our weakness is no stranger. Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!V3Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace; Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,And in His name all oppression shall cease.Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,Let all within us praise His holy name;Christ is the Lord,Oh, praise His name forever! His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim! His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!

There is nothing wrong with them asking you questions. There is nothing wrong with you asking them, or with trying to keep the conversation focused on the Bible. There is something wrong with saying or implying that this forum is for believers. It's for anyone who wants to discuss doctrine. You raised an issue. They replied. (My replies are actually the least on-topic of the bunch). Point is, I don't see where they're off topic, but if you want to report anything I'll alert one of the other mods. Your call. Meanwhile, a gentle reminder from ModKirk, circa 2010: Posted August 29, 2010 The doctrinal forum has and will continue to play host to a wide variety of opinions, doctrines and favorite theologians. Non-Christians, including atheists, agnostics, and Satanists (yeah, really) are welcome here. That being said, please keep the discussions on-topic. While discussing the existence of God, God's motives, the origin or reliability of the bible or the relatives merits of various religions and philosophies is certainly appropriate, consider the context of your discussion. Does your contribution add to or derail/detract from the discussion at hand? The flip side of this is that non-Christians have every right to weigh in on these threads. While it may be your opinion that a Buddhist or an Atheist doesn't belong in an argument about the Trinity or Predestination or answered prayer, the position of this board is that anyone may participate. Please, play nice!

THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS WRONG. The doctrinal forum is to discuss doctrine. It is NOT "for people that believe in Jesus Christ." It is for discussion of doctrine. In practice, we devised a "questioning faith" subforum to isolate threads that would otherwise turn the entire forum into one perceived as hostile to believers. But the "questioning faith" subforum does not give anyone the right to declare unbelievers unwelcome in the doctrinal forum. As long as the posters are discussing the doctrine that is the subject of the thread, anyone of any belief is welcome to post on any thread in any forum.

The moral of Job: S#!t happens. You gonna let that take your faith away? You really shouldn't. He's still God. I'm not saying I agree with that. I'm just saying, that's the upshot. Elihu rules!

I've never understood TWI's passion for slandering Job. It's almost like they took glee in blaming him for his calamities. Of course, finding fault is one way for a narcissist to hold himself up as something better than what he's criticizing, and what better way for a cult leader to prop himself up than to point out the flaws in someone the Bible calls "blameless and upright."
