  1. I am not a follower of Jiddu Krishnamurti, or of anyone else, but I think he was spot on when he said: I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. Certainly the truth is not in TWI, it only seemed so at the time.
  2. One thing that was never addressed was on what authority the books that currently make up the Bible are promulgated as it. It wasn't exactly convenient for VPW to admit it was that of the Catholic church!
  3. I certainly heard a lot if repetitive tongues in my time yet the interpretation was always very different. Reminds me of that chap from the Iraq Information Ministry spoof website during the Iraq War or the endless versions of the Scene from Downfall of Adolf and his henchmen that used to appear on you tube.
  4. Anti smoking Facism has become an almost universal obsession. It has gone WAY (pardon the pun) past the rights of non-smokers. Spain is one of those few countries that applies an intelligent solution. Businesses below a certain square metreage can decide to allow or to not allow smoking and those above that limit have to provide separate smoking and non-smoking areas. People can therefore make their own mind up. How civilised.
  5. I was wondering if they still do "Dial a Sunday Night"... Heck they could even do it as an internet podcast with cameras too. But they would have to watch their angles so all the empty seats don't show...
  6. When I took a look at the TWI website I couldn't find a single reference to VPW. Just like 1984 he is now an "unperson" so I assume they consider his "doctorate" as immaterial.
  7. For those who remember me - I'm back! For those who don't, Hello! It has been a few years since my last contribution when I lost my computer and when I got another I had a new ISP and email address. I have from time to time had a peek at the forums but couldn't sign back in and thanks to ex cathedra (hi babes!) I was able to get a contact with the powers that be about getting me reinstated. I sat on that for a few months but having made contact with one or two ex GB wayfarers I felt it was time to return! There is no doubt a lot of catching up to do and there are demands on my online time as I am a Moderator of a site for Kilts, probably the largest on the Internet. In a way it was kilts that brought me back. I was watching a series on you tube about the Scottish Clans and a face appeared that I knew! Even after 30 years! He had been a WOW Ambassador in Bristol UK when I lived there and had given me my first kilt, in exchange for which I gave him my Bullinger Companion Bible! I was able to track him down and make contact - he still has the Bullinger though I no longer have the kilt as it fell victim to moths some time ago! I do still have the sporran that he also gave me though. Never mind, I have since accumulated 25 more kilts! :) Well I will keep this short for now. Just want to say it's good to be back! Trefor
  8. We got the books included in the UK for our £25 *donation*...
  9. Tony Curtis Some Like It Hot Marilyn Monroe
  10. You got it Pirate! :D--> Always been on of my fave movies from when I was a kid. Hayley Mills, Maurice Chevalier, Wilfred Hyde-White, George Saunders. Also had Wilfred Brambell, maybe not famous in the US but very famous in the UK in the sitcop Steptoe and Son. Michael Anderson Jnr was in it too and apart from a US TV series called The Monroes, the only other film I can think of him being in was Logan's Run. The first quote was Professor Paganel explaining to Lord Glenarvon how he found the bottle which purported to be written by the missing Captain Grant. The second was the native bearers in the Andes explaining in their own language why they would not carry on through the mountain pass - Trango Peeray means earthquake but Paganel mistranslates this as meaning cold. The third is Bill Gaye explaining that he had forged the note in the bottle. The fourth is from the song sung by Paganel as he cooks an omlette in the Ombu Tree. I really did not think the film would have been that obscure to people!
  11. I have no knowledge of it being a trilogy... OK let's try to be a but more blatently obvious... It is based on a novel by Jules Verne and was filmed by Walt Disney. It starts in Glasgow. Another quote tomorrow :D-->
  12. No, not Oliver. Why cry about the weather - enjoy it! Each moment is a treasure, employ it!
  13. Robert Vaughn The Towering Inferno Steve McQueen
  14. Never seen Traxx... Another quote: Ye be smart too! and: The eyes be the eyes of a God-fearing man but the hand be the hands of a forger! You should have seen it Tom, even if you are younger than the 1960s when it came out...
  15. Jodie Foster The Silence of the Lambs Anthony Hopkins
  16. I cannot tell you what was in his mind Mi'lord, only what was in his stomach.
  17. It's what the priest says to Rocky Sullivan played by James Cagney in order that the young street kids who so admire him will not try to emulate him and possibly end up in he same place. Rocky makes a verbal refusal but complies with the request as he is being led to the chair. Perhaps Raf can confirm in place of Sharon?
  18. Still awaiting Sharon's confirmation or denial...
  19. I wonder what the BOD are going to do, they are sure going to be embarassed by the love and respect demonstrated, something they can only dream of.
