Very few people know that he wrote this song. I, myself, always thought Steve Miller wrote it.

Exegesis vs. Eisegesis
soul searcher replied to Steve Lortz's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
LOL I've known a few intelligent blonds -- seriously. :) -
mstar1, this is pretty freaky: I was going to post that song last night! The only reason I didn't was cuz I was looking for the studio version but couldn't find one, so I decided not to post anything. (Not that the live versions aren't great.) I love JH. We saw him a couple of years ago with the North Mississippi All-Stars as his backup band. Great show. This is one of my favorite songs..

Great songs. Geisha, if you like Elvis, you might enjoy the movie "Mystery Train" (1989). It takes place entirely in Memphis. Elvis isn't really in it, though. Only his ghost. Or not. It's kinda weird.

The song was written by John Fogerty and perfomed by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I like the way he took him down with one rock. He had an eye for the ladies -- I can identify with that. David was a bada$$. You didn't mess with King D. I liked his psalms, too, even though he probably didn't write them. Aside from Jesus; David, Solomon and Samson are my favorite biblical charactes.

Collapse? Never. True, there have been some disappointing seasons...

It's time for a little trash talkin'... LOL Yeah, uh-huh. Don't ever wear it to Yankee Stadium. NYers aren't very polite. I though it was pronounced "Who's-your-daddy?" I can tell that it's going to be an interestng summer. :) Oh, and I almost forgot: thank you for Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Johnny Damon and Babe Ruth. They all helped us win a few WS rings. (To be honest, I always hated Clemens, even as a Yankee.)

I do acknowledge that they broke the Curse of the Bambino in 2004. But then here we came again in 2009! The history, the tradition... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSTjWbhAxz4

The NY Yankees don't suck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUEOq4cPsiI I know it must be tough on you guys. Bucky Dent's home run in 1978, Babe Ruth, the 27 (or is it 28?) world championships. Heck, even our 2nd team (the Mets) beat you in 1986. It's painful, I know.

I'm glad the song served its purpose. :) @ waysider and geisha: thanks, great songs! Happy Easter to all.

I don't know about cyber-bullying, but as far as real-life schoolyard bullying the most quick and effective (i.e., the best) solution is for the victim to hit back -- and hit back hard. Believe me, it works. Oh sure, you could go the politically correct route: talk to the kids, talk to the parents, talk to the teachers, etc. You could end up talking for a long time. Meanwhile your child is being harassed daily. I'm sorry...I know that not everyone approves of that solution but it worked for me as a teenager once. And when my own son had an experience I gave him the best advice I knew: to surprise Mr. Bully with a hard right to the head the next time he approached him. (I had no idea the opportunity would come so soon but the next day the kid approached him and my son -- God bless him -- did exactly I said -- for once, ha ha! He hit the kid right in the head with a closed fist, per my instruction. Yes, he received an afternoon's detention, but it was worth it. The kid never bothered him again. Ever.) Nothing succeeds like success. Fight back just once and you're no longer an easy target for bullies.

The video here is inconsequential (unless you want to read the lyrics). This song requires that you either be driving on an open highway, or sitting back with your eyes closed.

In New York State, Governor Patterson wants to institute a soda tax under the guise of reducing obesity, but it's really just underhanded way of raising revenue to plug a budget hole.
-
I have to say I agree with this. More than half the of price of a pack of cigaretes in NY is taxes -- that is so totally wrong. Also, as much as I hate smoking, I support an individual's right to smoke, provided I don't have to breathe it. * * * Hey Pond, you probably don't want to hear this from a total stranger but the best thing you could do to improve your life right now is to quit smoking. Think of the power in that decision: You will simultaneously save yourself a lot of money and improve your health -- there's no down side to it! Call your local health department about any smoking cessation programs they offer. Studies have shown that a combination of using a nicotine substitute (such as nicorette gum) together with "something else" (formalized behavioral instruction, hypnosis, acupuncture, etc.) works best. I come from a family of smokers...wife, mother, everybody smokes. Needless to say, they don't listen to me at all. So maybe I can get a total stranger to quit. :)
-
I'm not sure how I feel about that... [Full disclosure: I smoked about a pack a day for almost 20 years. On April 3rd it will be 18 years since I quit.] While I was a smoker I tried to quit unsuccessfully several times, but what really motivated me to quit was when I started working for a hospital in 1991. Smokers had to go outside to smoke and standing in cold, wet weather greeting non-smokers as they came and went made me feel like a total loser. So much so that I decided that was it -- I went to hypnosis and I quit. It was the best thing I ever did in my life health-wise. Anyway, unless the drug test uses the hair-sample method, you can beat it by not smoking for a few days before the test and flushing out your system with lots of water. Hair sample tests are virtually impossible to beat since traces of certain substances can remain in your hair weeks or months after consumption. (Yeah, I know it's very difficult to quit smoking for even a day, but how badly do you want the job? P.S. The hospital I worked for did have pre-employment drug screening so I had to quit using all other substances for a few weeks. Fortunately, nicotine wasn't one of the substances they tested for. :)

I KNEW somebdoy was going to say that. LOL Oh damn you, damn you...(just kidding). :)

Great song, Waysider. I believe Sandy Denny sang opposite Robert Plant on Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore". Most people (including many Zeppelin fans) hate this song but I like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6LZnz0ElLc

Okay, here's my "Sunday morning song" for the week... In the 37 or so years that I've been listeing to this song it never gets old, it just takes on new layers of meaning.
