  1. When I read stuff like this, I'm reminded of why I virtually ignored religion and Christianity for most of my adult life. Hatred of homosexuals is hardly unique to the Way ministry. Bigotry of any sort repulses me. You shoulda knocked him out.
  2. Interesting that you should post this. I was wondering today what it was that finally drove you out. Just amazing. What was this moron thinking? I mean what THE HELL was he thinking?
  3. It doesn't make sense but it happens all the time with victims of domestic violence. More often than not, women will refuse to press charges against abusive husbands or boyfriends. Anyway, great OP, JavaJane. Thank you for sharing and best of luck to you. :)
  4. I don't think it's Quinn. The melody has been going through my head since yesterday and I still can't think of it. Waysider, how about a hint?
  5. Your father is saved because he converted to Christianity. But what about all the other Jews who haven't converted? Having lived in NY all my life I know many, many Jewish people. Heck, I have neices, nephews and in-laws who are Jewish. I don't evaluate or judge their religion. It's not in me to do that. And I don't talk about personal salvation with them. I'm not here to convert them, nor are they here to convert me. We honor and respect each other's religions and holidays. Will they make it to God's kingdom according to Jesus? I'm certain they will, but then what do I know? I had this discussion with some Calvinists in another forum. They seem to be very rigid in their thinking...it's the Jesus-way or no-way.
  6. Interestingly (or not), the term "God's Will" occurs only 14 times in the NIV and not once in the KJ. (I used BibleGateway.com) Anyway, it seems to me that before one can identify and/or describe the "center" of something you first have to define what that something is. Just me chiming in.
  7. First thing is, please educate me...when is the "tribulation period" supposed to begin? This topic is a little advanced for me. I haven't finished the NT yet (I haven't read Revelation) nor have I read Daniel, Isiah or the later prophets. So I can't really talk about this subject intelligently. However, I'm still wondering about those holy people resurrected after Jesus (Mat 27:51-53). My NIV doesn't have a lot to say about it.
  8. Let's take this a step at a time because this is a difficult subject for me and I get confused... Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6, NIV). Since Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Savior, how can they be saved? It seems to me that for that to happen Jesus would have to return to earth and make Himself known to the whole world. How else can all men be "without excuse"? (see Romans 1:20) So...Is there salvation apart from Jesus? The way I read scripture less that 33% of the human race (those Christians who truly believe in Jesus and the resurrection) will make it to God's kingdom. It seems to me that God would have liked better than a 33% yield on the seeds of his creation, don'tcha think? BTW I'm not judging anyone's beliefs here (I'm undecided myself). I'm just playing "devil's advocate" for the sake of discussion.

  10. After listening to an offshoot class discuss SIT, and after giving it a good-faith effort after which I reported moderate success, my EWF was very excited and declared me "born again". To her, SIT was the main criteria, the critical indicator of the new birth. P.S. CES/STF had a phone number you could call if you needed "technical support" (my characterization) on SIT. I thought that was kinda weird. ("Having trouble with your SIT? Give us a call!")
  11. That's one way to look at it... My NIV says that the firstfruits, Christ, was the guarantee of the resurrection of all who are redeemed, "Christ was raised in his own time in history and those who are identified with Christ will be raised at his second coming". Also this, which you brought up... Matthew 27 52The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. It's interesting that that account only appears in Matthew. Who were these holy people? Corinthians says only that Jesus appeared to "more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time" (v.6, which, as we discussed a while ago, is the only scripture that says that over 500 people saw Jesus after the resurrection), it doesn't say anyone else was with him.
  12. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if people weren't always claiming "inerrancy". My ex-Way friend was always telling me how "mathematically precise" the bible is. And when I bring inconsistencies to her attention she immediateley starts tearing the verse apart (i.e., how many time does a word occur in scripture? what do the words really mean? were they translated correctly? Etc.) This particular record happens to contain a detail that I'm willing to overlook. But when people insist that the bible is inerrant and "mathematically perfect", I think it's incumbent upon them to clarify these inconsitencies.
  13. You got it, hiway. (I don't have a clue about your post.)
  14. I always found that verse rather mysterious. Where is the temple that holds the "Most Holy Place" physically located? Or is it symbolic? Another thing that strikes me (now that I'm reading the record again) is that in Matthew and Mark the curtain is torn after the cry of "Eloi, Eloi", while in Luke it is clearly torn before. (Also, Luke doesn't specify in which direction it was torn.) P.S. I realize all this has little to do with your post. :)

  16. Hiya Human. I've seen them twice since 2003 (both shows were unbelievably good) and I'll be seeing them again this summer. Yeah, maybe it's all about money, and maybe they are a bunch of uncaring azzholes, but who cares? I certainly don't. To me it's all about the music. :)
  17. Her kids are getting into their late teens. I don't know how much longer she can keep these "SIT/interpreting" sessions going. I'd love to know how her kids feel about it but I probably never will.
  18. I guess I'll go again... All night long We would sing that stupid song And every word we sang I knew was true
  19. No, no. It wasn't a TWI fellowship. It was some other church. Sorry I wasn't clear. Another thing she told me freaked me out was that she and her family would settle down in the living room after dinner and SIT and interpret for each other. (I'm sure her kids learned a long time ago what sounds to make to please their mother.) And I thought homework was a hassle. LOL
  20. LOL My friend, told me of fellowships she attended where a roomful of people would all be speaking in tongues at once. The thought of that really creeped me out.
