  1. mstar, you play slide guitar? I can't play slide.
  2. George, I didn't realize that I had also used this song in the "Songs Remembered from Just One line" thread. I identified it there but if you want to resist the temptation to look and take a guess, here are the first two lines of the song: Katy tried I was halfway crucified It's a relatively obscure song. I think the only way you'll guess it is if you're a fan of the artist. I know Wordwolf knows it.
  3. Thanks, Roy. I haven't yet read the entire Book of Revelation but I have read a few chapters of it and I find Revelation 18 to be fascinating. Think of the United States (or the combined set of industrialized Western countries) as Babylon. The "merchants of the earth" are mining, lumber and oil companies and all others who plunder the earth out of greed. 11"The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes any more... 14"They will say, 'The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.' And verse 19: " 'Woe! Woe, O great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin! [All quotes are from the NIV] I don't know when that terrible hour will come but it sure seems to be getting closer.
  4. I wonder if "doctrine" such as above was limited to certain local fellowships (twigs? is what you call them?) or was it from the "top-down" organizationally -- i.e., was "get your needs met" taught by VPW and LCM? I wonder, too, about the sexual practices such as mate-swapping that some of you have described. Not everyone here seems to have been exposed to such behavior. It makes me think that it was highly localized. Of course, I could be wrong.
  5. As of today the situation in the Gulf is not a heck of a lot better. Oil now sinking to the floor of the Gulf and it will kill off everything it covers. I heard today that some oil could eventually end up on the east coast! I don't see how that could happen but hopefully I'm wrong or I misunderstood.
  6. What, such as, "I analyzed these numbers without fudging them"? :) Numbers don't lie.
  7. It's my understanding that the population of active TWI members is diminishing. If TWI has a finance department I'm sure they see the trouble ahead.
  8. So the organization is living off its savings? I wonder what their operating/capital budget revenue and expenditure pies look like. Without a revenue stream any organization is bound to fail.
  9. How do they recruit new students? I would think that anyone under 50 nowadays is internet-savvy -- wouldn't they come across the GSC while researching TWI?
  10. I do know. You're absolutely right. I was kidding around. She's actually a sweetheart, although she might have used more discretion at times. The fact that I'm weak and stupid didn't help matters. Maybe someday I'll tell the sad and pathetic saga.
  11. Over the past year, I have been thinking of a certain pretty woman I know as either a devil or an angel, depending on my mood. I can't decide which. (I believe that's a song, "Devil or Angel".) It's hard to tell sometimes, if something (or someone) is really good for you. I guess if you have to question it, it's not. It's hard to tell, too, when your love's in vain. (That's also a song.)
  12. I don't suppose VPW was the first religious leader to rob his ministry in order to fund a lavish lifestyle. He may have been the most vile and disgusting one, though. Just going by what I've read, of course. :) Did the LCM dirtbag get to "live the life", too?
  13. Interesting thought... Like what? Are you thinking, like, certain women, maybe? Certain music? Certain substances?
  14. Zeppelin ened up having to add Willie Dixon as an author and pay him royalties for some blues song. WLL might have been it.
  15. But he wasn't rich before he founded TWI, right? I wonder why someone who isn't, like, the president of the U.S. or the secretary of state or something, would need a private jet. Maybe he needed a plane in case Jesus showed up in Jerusalem for the 2nd coming and he couldn't get a flight out? That's a sweet motorcycle though. And it was all paid for with your hard earned money, huh? That's effed up.
  16. Some blue-eyed soul for ya... (skip to 1:00 to avoid intro) 21 years later...as good, if not better: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8370225743183182847#
  17. I Wanna be Sedated - The Ramones Songs remembered from just two words: "Teenage wasteland"
  18. The Who - Squeezebox You need coolin' and baby I'm not foolin' (edited because I got the lyric wrong)
  19. Wow, excathedra...that was your 19,000 post! And a damn good one at that. I thought I'd point that out. :B) edited to say, thank you, I do enjoy your posts they crack me up...as sad as they are -- I hope that makes sense.
