  1. Even church music? What about gospel?
  2. Do we have to watch for the adversary in music of any kind?
  3. This thing about where the adversary is is a very interesting topic to me. @ Bolshevik: LOL edited for spelling
  4. I miss the days when pitchers used to pitch complete games (yeah, I'm that old). Did you know that Juan Marichal once pitched 16 scoreless innings? His opponent, Warren Spahn pitched 15 1/3. The SF Giants beat the Milwaukee Braves, 1-0 that night See the box score: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN196307020.shtml
  5. Interesting...while doing what you suggested I learned that there are surviving members of the Branch Davidian cult, including some offshoot factions.
  6. I've been advocating for instant replay and electronically-called balls and strikes for years. A missed call on just one pitch can determine the outcome of a game (even an important one). The electronically-called balls and strikes will probably never happen (nobody I've talked to seems to like the idea). I guess people prefer to keep the errors umpires make as part of the game.
  7. So why didn't you guess? Here's for the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen this movie... (The horror...the horror...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt0xxAMTp8M
  8. Nothing, huh? One more clue: CHARLIE DON'T SURF!
  9. Gotcha. So, in light of that, here's the definitive line: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
  10. Was dancing prohibited at the Way?
  11. No one could get it from just that one line, huh? Okay, here's another line (I'll make them progrssively easier -- if I gave you any of the obvious lines, all of you would get it in a second): "What the hell do you know about surfing, Major? You're from goddamned New Jersey!"
  12. Not to defend the umpire or anything but it was a close play. If Galarraga didn't have a perfect game going nobody would be talking about it today. Just sayin'.
  13. If the mountains fell in the sea Let it be It ain't me Waysider goes.
  14. It's a relatively obscure song, so I'll give two hints: 1. They are the last two lines of the song. 2. The same song has been used recently in this thread. correction: The song was actually used in the "songs remembered from just one line" thread.
  15. So let me guess: Christian music only? Was any gospel music allowed?
  16. I imagine the set list had to be approved.
  17. It occurs to me that TWI was an almost-perfect "totalitarian state." Even in China they don't pretend that they can control people's thoughts.
  18. "I was going to the worst place in the world and I didn't even know it yet."
  19. Sing on, brother Play on, drummer
  20. For some reason that statement "opened my eyes": it's a Dylan song...Hurricane maybe? About a boxer, I think.
  21. Maybe it's just semantics, but I think it's the reverse, i.e., all life has a "life-giving spirit" in that it is motivated to reproduce (create more life). I see "soul" as being more of a "personality" thing that is reflected in the way you live life and the things you create. For example, among musicians, some clearly have more soul than others and it is obvious in their ability to perform a solo. Some are clearly better at it than others. It has nothing to do with their knowledge of music or their proficiency in playing their instrument. It has to do with their ability to use that performance to express themselves. I think some people lack any soul whatsoever -- most sociopaths, for example. Of course this is all just my stupid opinion.
  22. A similar phenomenon in the field of psychology is called the Hawthorne Effect (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawthorne_effect). That is, simply knowing that you're being observed can modify your behavior. Question: do you think "spirit" is the same as "soul"? (I'm somewhat familiar with TWI's teaching on this but I'm interested in what you think.
  23. The Green Mile * * * "Now go home and get your f*cking shine box!"
