  1. Interesting. You were born again as a child and yet you grew into an "angry young man" who did drugs.
  2. Do you consider yourself "born again"? If so, when did it happen?
  3. Okay, I'll add some context: Local sheriff pursues a psychopathic hit-man who is pursuing a retired veteran who took took satchel of money.
  4. LOL JJ, you crack me up! Nice post.
  5. Here's a quote: "Let me ask you something. If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"
  6. This made me chuckle. (Though I'm sure you didn't find it funny at the time.) And so where the f___ was everybody? I'da been p*ssed.
  7. geisha, I love that song and always have! Here are some interesting bits of info: The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song was written and performed by Sonny Curtis... Sonny Curtis at one time was a bass/rhythm guitar player in Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets... In a song called "Buddy Holly" by the group, Weezer, the chorus mentions both Mary Tyler Moore and Buddy Holly. This is all true, though I don't know if it means a gd thing. :)
  8. Waysider, I have tended to see your story as something that might have happened to me if I had taken the "other road". The risk was there. But for me, at the time, it was a no-brainer to forsake TWI and let her walk away. In the end, who knows how it would have all worked out? (Me being me, I like to torture myself and imagine how great life would have been if I had stuck it out with her -- totally ignoring the fact that I've been pretty lucky and things haved worked out rather well for me. But why let logic and reason intrude on a good session of self-doubt and self-loathing?) My friend's hopes were that I would take the PFAL class while she went WoW. Then, while she was gone I would morph into a newly-born again TWI-er with the Kool Aid running through my veins (that's my characterization, not hers.) I don't regret my decision not to take the class. I do have other regrets (which I'll share someday) but that's not one of them.
  9. Hmm...she never bothered to go through the list of benefits of the class with me. She must have known at some level that I wouldn't be receptive to it.
  10. What exactly does this green card say? Is there an image of one somewhere?
  11. Thanks, JJ. That's nice of you to say. I think you're right: my life was indirectly impacted by TWI -- twice -- but not in the same ways it impacted everyone else here. I want to post the pathetic saga somewhere, but not on these boards. For one thing, it doesn't compare with the kind of suffering that some of you forumers went through. For another, I wasn't abused in any way (used maybe, but not abused. ha ha!) Ultimately, my story has very little to do with either TWI or the bible. For now, I can impart this advice to any non-TWIers who may be lurking and are in a relationship with a TWI person: 1) get out, 2) run like hell, and 3) don't ever look back.
  12. I actually don't belong here. I sort of stumbled in while researching the "idiom of permission." Then I lurked for a couple of months and when I finally said something everybody was friendly, so I stuck around.
  13. I was watching this on PBS last night. The performances and video quality are so good that I just had to share. Hang in there for his knee-drop routine, it's classic. ("Please" starts at about 3:20) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TddsRNL7uc8 Check out his dance moves. Clearly there would not have been a Prince or a Michael Jackson without James Brown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeGsFnwRPq4&feature=related P.S. Note how he soulfully and accurately reminds us that New Orleans is the Home of the Blues.
  14. The leg thing is an Ian Anderson trademark. I don't know why he does it. Glad you guys liked the vid.
  15. I have no idea. I think what George is saying above is that we are to present clues that give the movie away easily such as, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." The line you gave above, while no doubt a key line from whatever movie it is, could have been said in any number of movies.
  16. "Who am I?" and "Why am I me?" I've been asking myself those questions as long as I can remember. Every time I think the answer is coming to me it pulls away, like trying to remember a dream. Just thought I'd mention it. :)
  17. This is pretty freaky. Pull it up when you have an hour to spare... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5629459655051643497#
  18. Although, to be honest, I wasn't really paying attention. He could have said that day is night and night is day, and it still would have gone in one ear and out the other. The only thing I remember from that event are the girls who danced and sang background vocals during the chorus of "In America". It was very well-choreographed.
  19. Joe Fair, that's the guy! I saw him -- or so I'm told. I don't remember a thing he said, though.
  20. I was at a Way thing on Long Island in the 80s and there was music. I distinctly remember a band doing Charlie Daniels' "In America" and a few other songs. They even had dancers.
  21. Didn't OldSkool tell us that they allowed a Summer Jam? There was music there.
