I don't know how it was presented, sourced or referenced in TWI but I'm sure you're probably aware that that came from Bullinger. (See page 1660 of the Companion Bible: http://levendwater.org/companion/The%20Companion%20Bible%20-%20Bullinger/index.htm ) Edited to fix the link. If doesn't work go here: http://levendwater.org/companion/index_companion.html , click The Companion Bible link, then click Romans. -

And we'll fill in the missing colors In each other's paint-by-number dreams -
No, you don't have to think anything. Simply knowing that you're being given a treatment which might work enhances the probability that the treatment will work, even if all you were given was a sugar pill.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs... (here he messed up his own lyrics in the first verse): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ba_0Y-3254

Yeah, that was one thing I never fully got... The first time I heard her SIT, it really freaked me out. Made me wonder wtf I was doing (with her).
-
Yet (correct me if I'm wrong) many people in TWI faked SIT when necessary to avoid criticism or embarassment, yet remained in the organization for quite some time regardless. edit: No you didn't lose your voice, I just messed up the quote. :)
-
I have no choice but to agree with you on that (since I don't really know what the "law of believing" , as taught by TWI, is). But, just as a for instance, there is no handy, ready made theory in either biology or psychology that adequately explains the Placebo Effect in clinical trials of pharmaceuticals. Couldn't a Law of Believing, in some form, account for at least some of it?
-
Agreed. True, and I'm sure it is of value to many people. But my ewf's belief is that SIT is an essential spiritual manifestation -- a critical indicator -- of acceptance of Jesus as savior, i.e, you know that you're "born again" when you SIT.
-
You guys didn't squabble like this when you were "in", didja? (jk) For what it's worth, my ewf has been shopping "churches" since she left a year ago and can't seem to find anything she's comfortable with. Of course, that's no surprise. Which raises a question in my mind: Does recovery from the cultish aspects of Way theology imply, or necessitate, a "recovery" from the doctrine? Wouldn't it...shouldn't it? Just wondering. There are still thousands of believers who still ascribe fully to Way theology warmed-over.

My church is a big fancy building with golden candlesticks and stained-glass windows that always smells like incense. Usually it's empty or half-filled (except on Christmas and Easter, during which you can't get a seat if you don't get there 20 minutes early). Sorry...that's my lame attempt at humor.

Yes I remember. ("Hell freaking no!" -- I still get a chuckle out of that.)

Just in case no one noticed, after yesterday's action the Yanks are tied with Tampa Bay for 1st place in the American League East and the best record in baseball (40-23).

Change of Heart?

I think that's been covered extensively on these boards. :) Regarding the OP, when I recently asked my friend about 1 Timothy 2:11-12 ("A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.") she came back at me with a very similar argumment saying that it was not part of the original text, but was inserted by a copyist. -
Aramaic NT Origins (The HRV)
soul searcher replied to James Trimm's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Somebody please remind me why I should bother to learn Assyrian, Greek, Aramaic, etc. Doesn't God's word speak for itself in English? The "inerrancy" folks in another forum say that God "saw to it" or made sure that His word was transcribed correctly when first "breathed" to the writers. If that's the case, then why wouldn't God have seen to it that His word was translated correctly? Did God intend the bible to be a puzzle, or so mysterious that most "regular folks" without college degrees wouldn't fully grasp the message? I don't think so. Just my useless opinion. -

If nothing else, TWI leadership certainly had its containment procedures down pat. They would probably be successful in the field of public relations. :) -

Very interesting. That paper must have been quite a revelation for a lot of the Way folks. -
I love that song! Yes, I've always had a weakness for bubblegum pop. I admit to being so old that I was actually alive and in my teens (okay, 16 years old, to be exact) when that song came out. I never told any of my friends I liked it, though. I would have been marked and avoided. :)

Change of Heart?

Yeah, I read about that, and I applaud his intent. But what strikes me is...did somebody really need to write a research paper to convince everyone else that adultery is wrong according to the bible? I mean, it says it right there. Sounds like pure politics. -

I don't think so Roy but thanks for posting that anyway. SS likes the hip-shake thang. -

So was it a family-issue fight or a diagreement on doctrine?
