  1. Looking again at the title of this thread it occurs to me that I don't know what "everyone knows so well", I just know what I know well. So, just for the fun of it, I'm going to make my posts a little bit tougher (and turn some of you on to New Wave music at the same time). Here we go... I know a girl from a lonely street Cold as ice cream but still as sweet
  2. The term "double-meaning" doesn't really apply here -- there is little doubt about what she's referring to. Great stuff.
  3. I guess this is going to take more than one line... There are some things you can't cover up With lipstick and powder Thought I heard you mention my name Can't you talk any louder? Don't come any closer Don't come any nearer My vision of you Can't get any clearer
  4. Interesting paper. Well-written. Incidentally, your citation of Acts 2:16-20 skipped over what I think is one of funniest verses in the bible, Act 2:15, "These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning!"
  5. Move over, Linda Ronstadt, and make way for the Soul Ladies. (Dig the punchy horns.)

  7. "Thought I heard you mention my name Can't you talk any louder?"
  8. "There are some things you can't cover up With lipstick and powder"
  9. Young girls they do get weary Try a Little Tenderness -- the definitive version (IMO) was by Otis Redding
  10. I haven't read Garth's response yet but I wanted to stop and point out that what you said above is not necessarily true. While many gays have found non-threatening environments in which they can live and work openly, many have not. Many, in fact, are still ostracized for their orientation/lifestyle/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. Some choose not to "come out" for this very reason. And then there's the condemnation from the Bible and many Christians. We even have hate groups like the Westboro church-of-whatevers who openly preach hate towards homosexuals. Etc. So I'd say that gays face various social and legal challenges that heterosexuals don't have to deal with. Nice post, BTW, even though I don't know if I agree with all of it.
  11. There's a dozen great quotes in that movie. I love Tarantino movies. I'm stumped on your clue.
  12. Decent song, but I really like the dancing blonde chick in the white dress...mmm!
  13. Good stuff. And that's the same guy that did "Fooled Around And Fell In Love"?
  14. Bromberg...classic! I like this song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJQRxExlmy8&feature=related
  15. The Graduate "It's got a wonderful defense mechanism: you don't dare kill it."
  16. Network "Oh, this your wife, huh? A lovely lady. Hey baby, you must've been something before electricity."
  17. The singer is not known for his clear enunciation so I'll give you the rest of the fist verse: Sold in a market down in New Orleans Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright Hear him with the women just around midnight I listened to this song for years before I even had a clue about what he was saying.
  18. Nice post, Beguiled. Welcome to GSC. You might say I was on the losing end of that "doctrine".
