  1. He was a hard-headed man, he was brutally handsome And she was terminally pretty
  2. Waysider, oh man! I usually don't post in the "About the Way" threads but the second I saw your post I started cracking up. Just thought I'd tell you. God bless Wilson Pickett (R.I.P.)
  3. Anybody watch "Promise(s?)" (The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town)? It's on HBO this month. Even if you're not a Springsteen fan, I highly recommend it. There's video (c. 1978-79?) of a genius at work. It's a joy to watch. I never knew how much attention BS paid to his sound. See it. :)
  4. Yeah, I used to love that Soft Cell version. But I think I officially got sick of it yesterday or the day before. No kidding.
  5. I have no idea but that's a great line! Is it a Quentin Tarantino movie?
  6. I'll give it to Wordwolf. The song is "My God" from the Aqualung album (1971). For those who don't know, "Aqualung" was one of the first great concept albums -- in this case the concept is Christianity and the Church of England. I think almost all of you would enjoy it. Great music, great lyrics.
  7. I've always been a Yankee fan but I find it hard to get excited about this team. Losing 16 of their last 20 (or whatever) and settling for a wild card spot in the playoffs is quite disappointing. In the old days they would have missed the playoffs.
  8. Now I don't remember if I saw those movies on "Creature Features", or on "Chiller Theater" (WPIX, New York) in the late 60s.
  9. Sorry, I did forget about this. One more clue: So lean upon Him gently And don't call on Him to save You from your social graces And the sins you used to waive The bloody Church of England -- in chains of history -- requests your earthly presence at the vicarage for tea.
  10. The Crawling Eye (1958) with Forrest Tucker The Devil's Messenger (1961) with Lon Chaney Jr. Both are decidedly "B" movies (and somewhat hokey) but they totally creeped me out as a kid.
  11. I smoked for about 19 or 20 years. Quit 19 1/2 ago. Cigarettes were about 50 cents a pack when I started. What worked for me was nicorette gum plus hypnosis. I was also very motivated to quit, which I think is essential. I went to hypnosis twice, once individual, another time group. They give you many tools beyond the initial hypnotic session to aid you in quitting -- including a tape of the session (or a generic one) which you should listen to everyday. I'm not saying hypnosis works for everybody. In fact I know it doesn't. A review of the research I saw a few years ago indicated that a pharmaceutical treatment such as the patch or nicorette gum, combined with a behavioral intervention (such as hypnosis, counseling, behavioral conditioning) works best.
  12. "Well I heard some people talking just the other day" If everyone doesn't know that song, they should.
  13. Here's another line: "The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence."
  14. I knew that clue would irritate somebody. I purposely chose it. Okay, if you've seen the movie this one's a giveaway... It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.
