  1. It's not from Scary Movie (but I'm pretty sure there was a parody of the scene in it). Any other hints would probably give it away. Hmm...let's see... 1. The line was spoken in a gruff voice with a British accent. 2. It's from one of the (if not the) most horrific and disturbing scenes in all of movie history.
  2. One pitcher who liked to work fast was Goose Gossage. (Getting signs from the catcher was just a formality for him because he only had one pitch: a blazing fastball.) I remember a few times when he faced Cleveland first baseman Mike Hargrove, who was one of those ssslooowww batters who had to check everything between pitches. Gossage would stand on the mound with his hands on his hips between pitches as if to say, "Anytime you're ready, MFer!" I had the good fortune of being able to ask Gossage about it directly when I visited the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer. Gossage said, "Yeah, I remember Hargrove. I hated that SOB. I wanted to bean him every time he came up." So I got a kick out of that. I think if all pitchers worked as fast as Gossage did games would be an hour and half long intead of three hours.
  3. Personally, I like the "mezzanine" camera angle they used to use in the old days. You rarely see that now. I heard that in the future we may get interactive broadcasts where you can pick the camera angle you want. Now that would be cool.
  4. Good points there, Simon. Actually my biggest complaint about the game itself is the amount of time between pitches (see Socks' post above). It slows down the game unecessarily. Ever switch to a baseball game on TV after watching a football or basketball game? All I can say is:
  5. That's from Broadcast News. (And that was more than one line ) Now, getting into the spirit of Halloween...this is a nasty one (from a movie full of nasty ones): "Do you know what she did, your c***ing daughter?
  6. A game can end on a badly-called ball or strike. That's wrong. Don't they use "electronic eyes" in pro tennis? Why not in baseball? Why make a stupid umpire's judgement a key part of the game? I'm gonna keep talking about it -- maybe it'll catch on someday. People don't like change. And when it comes, it usually comes slowly.
  7. I'm for elctronically-called balls and strikes. Nobody I've ever talked to agrees with me, though. I guess they prefer to keep mistakes and bad calls in the game.
  8. No clue. (BTW, it's suposed to be one line, isn't it?)
  9. Sorry, I can't get excited about either team. Actually, we'll be lucky if we get to watch it here in the New York area. News Corp. has pulled Fox 5 off the air because of a bitter contract negotiation with our local cable provider (Cablevision). So far, we've missed the entire NL playoffs and two weeks of NFL football (including last Sunday's Giants game). I just decided, though, that I'm rooting for SF. George Dubya used to own the Rangers and I know he's a fan, so I'm rooting against them.
  10. Yeah, I'm that "other guy" but I didn't say I wouldn't be watching because the Yankees aren't in it. The main reason I won't be watching is because Texas is in it. SF-Boston? Definitely watchable. Even SF-Tampa Bay would have been better. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that it turns out to be a ratings disaster.
  11. I'm just getting around to reading the list. My first impression: "A Day in the Life", while definitely an excellent song and a Rock classic, probably wouldn't make my top ten list. But their #2 pick, "I Want to Hold Your Hand", would definitely qualify, IMO.
  12. Moving on... Let's all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before your mother was born.
  13. Another World Series I won't be watching. Good thing the Jets and Giants are winning or I'd be forced to do work around the house.
  14. You did this one before... Bob Dylan, Tonight I'll be Staying Here With You. Covered definitively by The Jeff Beck Group.
  15. So what does everybody think of the best team that Steinbrenner's money could buy?
  16. Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit When I think of those East End lights, muggy nights The curtains drawn in the little room downstairs Wow, Georgie, it looks like you beat me by one minute. George's song is "Grazing in the Grass" by the Friends of Distinction. One of my all-time favs. The original, I beleive is an instrumental by Hugh Masekela. BTW, I think it goes... I can dig it He can dig it She can dig it They can dig it We all dig it Can you dig it, baby?
  17. George, you got it. It's one of the few movies I know where everybody dies. Dark and somber...I love depressing movies.
  18. I'm right here. Is it my turn? I'll assume it is and take the liberty. Halloween is coming so... "Good shot! OK, he's dead; let's go get 'im. That's another one for the fire." Hint: it's the last line of a horror classic.
  19. Is that Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man"?
  20. See, my problem is that I can't even decide which is my favorite song on that album. It's between Norwegian Wood and In My Life. When I was younger it used to be "You Won't See Me". "Michelle" is classic McCartney tunesmithing. "Run for Your Life" is dark and foreboding. "Nowhere Man" was on the UK release. I love that song, too.
  21. I can't get past deciding whether I like early (Meet the Bealtes/Please Please me), middle (Revolver/Rubber Soul) or late-period (White Album/Abbey Road) Beatles best.
  22. "Sunshine" was the first song I ever learned on guitar.
