I was going to post another line but -- and this is kind of embarrasing -- I realized that I only know about 2 or 3 lines from the whole song, which was "Tumbling Dice" by the Rolling Stones. I heard once that some old blues guy taught Mick Jagger to never enunciate his words clearly, to always slur them a little (or a lot). FREE POST! -
Great story, bowtwi. Thanks for sharing.

The first result I got from a Google search turned up a blog that mentioned a related term, "The Great Sacred Secret", which is a book by E.W. Bullinger. * * * Anyway, regarding the OP, assuming that a Christian-oriented answer is required, check out 2 Peter 1:3-10. It appears that what you have to do is this: ...make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.(NIV) That's what the bible says, anyway. :)

Hint: There were two songwriters, one of whom's name has already been mentioned on this thread.
-
Nope. It wasn't Dave either. Or Steve Cropper. :)
-
Alrighty then, who wrote "Soul Man" by the Blues Brothers, Sam & Dave, et al.?
-
That would have been my second guess. Too obvious, though.
-
My first guess is Smokey Robinson.
-
Great point, Trefor. Thanks.

I posted what I heard. It turns out the lyrics are acutally, Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry, Don't you see the time flashin' by Next line: Honey, got no money -
I'll take a stab at it...Elmore James?
-
You're half-right: Steve Cropper and Otis Redding free turn! CORRECTION: "In the Midnight Hour" was written by Steve Cropper and Wilson Pickett. Sorry.
-
Broken Arrow probably knows the answer.
-
nope edit: it didn't come out of Sun Records, it came out of Stax/Volt -- but it may have been recorded in Muscle Shoals instead of Memphis. I'm going off th etop of my head.
-
Great stuff. That was the first Otis Redding album I ever bought. Okay, having fun here... Who wrote "In the Midnight Hour" (made famous by Wilson Pickett and covered by many, including the Grateful Dead)?
-
Nice try, BA. My first guess would be Otis Redding. My next guess would be Isaac hayes.

right

getting warm...it was a bratpack movie edit: in fact -- I'll give it away: 3 of the 5 main cast members of Breakfast Club were in it
-
You knew that, huh? It's gonna be pretty tough to beat you at this game. Your turn.
-
Nope, not a lawyer movie. In fact, the quote has very little to do with the plot. (I only used it because I think it's clever.) Hint: the movie is from the 1980s with an ensemble cast. Some people hate it, some people like it. Another quote: She is the only evidence of God I have seen with the exception of the mysterious force that removes one sock from the dryer every time I do my laundry.
-
I never would have gotten that. Here's one: "Hound Dog". Guess the author. I suspect no one will get it (except maybe Waysider).
-
I'm stumped.

It's not Barry McGuire?
