I was just wondering what the hell the quote has to do with anything.

I always love how Wierwille was the drunken con man who slept with young women from his congregation, yet when that is mentioned, we are the ones being negative. You can't separate the con man from his con. Especially, when the con is loaded with doctrinal error from here to Tinbuktu, and the con man was anything but a man of God.

I am really glad to hear that. Some people are able to get a handle on it and quit, or moderate themselves. My uncle, who is a chronic alcoholic absolutely needs the support of AA to not drink. His wife is an ex-prescription drug addict and they have been a huge support for each other. The interesting thing is he became Christian through AA. But he still needs AA after 30 years. He has progressed to where he can be around alcohol and not be bothered by it. But he still struggles with the urge to drink on a daily basis. My uncle has helped countless people attain sobriety over the years by sponsoring them through AA. He has done some really good things with his life because of living the 12 steps. It's because of people like him (and others) that I get bristled (not at you) when dealing with TWI's evil doctrines condemning AA. My uncle is more Christian than Martindale, Rosalie, Donna or whoever you want to name at the top of that crap heap ever was. He is a good man, full of good works that gives God the glory and has accepted Jesus as his Lord and lived it for years. I'm not miffed with you in the least. But when ever the topic comes up I bristle. Partly, because at one point I held him in low esteem because of what Craig taught. My uncle is a better person than me.

My former neighbor had several adult kids who had made great strides battling serious Oxycontin addictions using AA/NA. The steps work if people stick with them and tap into their sponsor when troubles arise.

Not only this, but in the case of an alcoholic they have a disease - alcoholism. Some people aren't addicted to AA, they are battling the urge to not drink EVERY day of their lives. To parrot what Wierwille taught on alcoholism is to perpetrate his lack of understanding on the topic. Twinky, I am not directing this at you, but to those who would perpetuate Wierwille's teachings on the subject. And if Wierwille and company had such a firm grip on the subject because they were spiritual giants operating the manifestations of holy spirit, how come they kicked alcoholics out in stead of kicking the supposed spirit out? Ya. Thought so.

I saw the same with TWI.

IMO - it should matter. Unless we have just reverted to blind faith on uncomfortable topics. For me, once I decouple the idea of all that SIT is supposed to prove (as taught by TWI), then I have been able to follow along and work through towards my own conclusions.

My God, that was painful. I could only take a couple minutes of it.

And just to further illustrate Wierwille's and TWI's ignorance on the subject. Research has identified five types of alcoholics. Types of Alcoholics AA has known for sometime there are various and sundry types of alcoholics, from binge drinkers to chronic drinkers. Once again, Wierwille shows his vast ignorance speaking on a subject he pretends to know something about and then sums it up as....drum roll please...."their possessed." As as smart as Wierwille could have been had he really applied himself, he was little more than a mental midget in most cases. I wonder what type of alcoholic Wierwille was?

VP was an idiot. He also said cancer was devil spirit possession and then died of cancer. Alcoholism has no more to do with possession than cancer does.

When I left in 2008, it was common to hear way corps (et al.) express their disdain with TWI but then turn right around and say that nobody else had the package of truth taught by TWI. And what is inseparable from this package of truth? The manifestations of holy spirit as taught by TWI. By tackling topics like SIT it hits right at the backbone TWI's doctrine. No matter what conclusion we draw, at least we are exercising critical thinking skills to prove all things.

I guess there was ever only room for one alcoholic at HQ - Wierwille.
