What is your non-spiritual, non-relgious stress reliever?
Shellon replied to Tony Soprano's topic in Open
Absolutely reading. And mental health days!! At least one when I need it, two if I can manage it. No phone, no people needing even one thing from me. I park my car somewhere else, only answer the phone if it's one of my kids and do nothing, alot of it. Eating what I call stupid food, stuff I'd never keep in the house normally, and watch mindless television or sleep. Sometimes a run away to the cabin on the river. After one of those days I'm decompressed, rested and ready to go until I need another one. The best part of these days is allowing myself to not feel guilty about them. -
LOL bless your heart Chas, just reading that was difficult for this mama Also the neighbor can't figure it out anymore and I am no help to her so she won't be trying again.

Think I've found what I'm looking for, thanks everyone. I have a really big problem with buying a kid an expensive gift when she's a typical kid that doesn't always take care of her stuff, loses interest faster than the prices change and is a piece of equipment that I can't figure out. Appreciate all you help

We buy simple sparklers for the young kids in the neighborhood and the town does a huge event of fireworks tonight, an annual event. We can see them really well from a neighbors garden, so we don't have to fight the crowd, very nice.

Yeah, good point sushi Thanks act, that certainly fits the budget better! We do have one in a neighoring town and I'll check it out

I think this is beautiful!!

Perfect! If he says 'my mom says......' then the officer knows he's spoken to you about the prior behavior and will be less likely to hassle the boy. Sad isn't it, that they think they can get away with this stuff? The man hasn't ever taken on a mama? Hoooboy

This article is pretty good for this information http://www.kidsincourt.com/Miranda.htm It's long and addresses several specific states, but the first 4-5 paragraphs are good information for general.

Happy Happy Birthday!!! What a treat to be getting to know you, especially during your recent visit to my house. Here's to a wonderful day of celebration just for you. Shellon and Kelly

Thanks! Another issue is her care for the thing. She's wanted one for awhile, and I used her last year gift of a portable dvd player to 'test' her on how well she takes care of a nice piece of equipment; that one being only 29.00 out of my wallet. (Aren't day after thanksgiving sales maddenly great?) She's done really well at keeping it clean, picked up, etc., so that helped this mama too. Her birthday is the 7th, so I have to get on it here.

"The Harlot by the Side of the Road
Shellon replied to Abigail's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I finally got back into this book now that I have a summer break from textbooks. Just finished reading chapter 2 about Lot and his family. Somehow I thought that Lot also turned to stone/salt as well as his wife and I never understood how/why/what, etc. And as the book tells of his daughters getting him wasted and laying with him to conceive sons to carry on the family........of course we never discussed that in that other place before. Fascinating book! I'm diggin' how the author writes with providing information and even somehow sticks in some humor now and then. Simple and profound. -
HAHA! yeah, little boys would love this right? heeeeeee

For cake ideas, the mud cake with gummy worms is usually a hit at this age. You can make any dark cake recipe, scoop into individual containers, I used dump trucks once and beach pails another time (inexpensive at the dollar stores). Then I put gummy worms coming out of each one. "cool! worms and mud!" Then they also get the truck or bucket or whatever to take home. Another time I made individual small cakes and put frosting in 3-4 mustard/ketchup dispensers for each kid. They decorated their own cake. Fun stuff

Thank you ladies! If I have to use my credit card that often for her to gain songs, then I choose not to purchase it. Not to mention I hate hate using my credit card on the computer. I agree that song prices are cheaper than if I purchase a CD for her player, however. We do have the port necessary, as my neighbor uses it. She brings her own CD's with her and does something that way. Kelly will enjoy another gift from her mama. Maybe an 8 track player?

My daughter celebrates her 12th birthday in two weeks. An ipod has been on her birthday and christmas lists for a year but I haven't gotten it for her because I don't understand how it works. I know, I know, every kid over 2 has one, cept for mine, but I'm not spending money on something I can't understand. She has to go on to the computer to download songs right? The neighbor kid comes over here and tries to download to hers and after she's done I have to do a ton of fixing on my computer. Plus my daughter's computer time is supervised in a very detailed way, I want to know what she has to do to use this wierd looking thing. And how often does she need my credit card to get the music? And if we can't figure it out, it'll end up in a yard sale in short order. I need simple explanation for what my kid would have to do with this supposedly cool thing. It's easier than carrying around her cd player apparently eh?

Hi Roy, since my husbands death 10 years ago I've given this subject some more detailed thought. I used to tell my kids "I promise I won't die, I won't leave you" After their dad died, I stopped saying that, they now know better and I'm prepared for it, although I certainly hope it doesn't come until I'm very very much older. How about 90 so long as I can still care for myself. I've prepared in terms of advanced directives and all those things, guardianship of my minor daughter, funeral plans, etc. I am well aware that we are very lucky if we get tomorrow or the next hour. I like when people think about it, consider it, plan for it. I think it's a wise subject to address. It's gonna happen, might as well realize it.

Mine is my attitude about people and interacting. Never make someone a priority when they only make you an option. I have come to understand that more and more.
