galen, if that's how you feel, then don't go see the movie. there are plenty of people who feel differently and are thankful that mel made this film...i am one of those. i saw the film and don't think my senses were assaulted.

i think i am conservative and protestant and a fundamentalist....but i have never seen a focus to "separate themselves from catholic-like customs" in all the churches i have attended. the church i attend now just had a stations of the cross service and of course, rented out a theater to show mel's "catholic" movie....i think there is a move to bridge denominational differences. i have never heard anyone in the pulpit denounce the traditional Easter practices...or chicks and rabbits and eggs, oh my. i have seen them hold easter egg hunts. and i have never seen anyone denounce catholics either (unlike twi). okay...back to topic....as a child, i just had to have a white chocolate easter bunny (my favorite)...now i just settle for the pastel M&Ms.

btw, i did take my kids to this movie...they are 11, 13, and 16....along with two of their friends who are 14 and 16 (with parental permission, of course)....and none of them had a problem with the graphic nature of the film....my 13 year old said that it was less "gory" than he expected.....but then, i had explained to them what they were going to see and that it was the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. i didn't take them to the movie to "convert" them....i took them to get an appreciation for what Jesus went through. Taking them to the film was not a substitute for my parenting skills... it was in addition to. it still kills me that people criticize Christians for taking their kids to see this film but don't think twice about parents who let their children watch a myriad of other violent kinds of "entertainment" that is so prevalent in our society.

this just kills me....all the controversy surrounding whether or not the kids should see this film... kids today have access to all kinds of filth and garbage and violence on tv, video games, etc....and if the folks have cable and any "premium" channels...well, it's just amazing how much garbage is dumped into the minds of children in this society....in many cases, the children are under the age of 10 and are allowed to watch all kinds of filth on cable tv....or play violent video games. ..more parents than you think don't pay any attention to what is going into the minds of their children.. .where is the public outcry over this... but make a film about Jesus and the last 12 hours of his life...and all kinds of people come out of the woodwork to voice their opinion. (i'm not referring to any one on this board...i'm speaking about the public in general and the media) it's such a hot topic in the media...i hear people all the time discussing whether this film is appropriate for kids....WHY aren't they discussing ANY other film, cable movie, video game, mtv, etc. ??? They don't seem to mind that the children of America are watching that crap!

Tom, all 5 of the kids were more than okay with the film....they are all boys and they all liked the film...they had a few questions about who some of the characters were....and a couple didn't care for the subtitles...they also asked a few questions about different events.. ..but they were not "shocked" by the violence....my 13 year old said it was not as "gorey" as he expected..... and actually, he is right.....Jesus was beaten more brutally in real life and looked much, much worse than depicted on this film...as Kit has mentioned. still, the film is graphic....you know your kids best...some kids can handle it and others can't. btw, i would much rather let my kids see this film than have them watch MTV or a lot of the other garbage that is on tv and in the movies currently.

I saw "The Passion" yesterday afternoon at a prescreening for the movie. The theater was packed with about 450 people at the 4:30 showing and sold out with 505 people at the 7PM showing. I brought my 3 kids who are 16, 13, and 11 along with two of their friends aged 14 and 16 (with parental permission, of course)......imo, it was an accurate portrayal....and follows exactly simonzealotes outline of historical events...except for the part where the jews say "his blood be upon us and on our children." yes, it's intense and the beatings are more than brutal.....and yes, the final scene is of the resurrection....btw, mel uses raphael's resolution #2 regarding Jesus carrying the cross. i think the movie was VERY well done. peace, jen-o

hey...tempe sounds good to me...heehee :)--> italian food....hmmm... being a 2nd generation italian and having been raised by my italian grandparents, i must say i am pretty picky about my italian food...ain't nothing that compares to grandma's. :D--> are you sure this oreganos place is good? might i suggest riazzi's? those cooks come from italy. i also hear mancuso's is good....but i have never been there. then again...we could all meet at my place and my mom and i could cook the real stuff. ;)--> only kidding, i could never get my mom to agree to all that cooking....of course, depends on how many people we are talking about. now, grandma, she would have cooked for an army...heehee.. anyway, i am interested in this az get-together. my last final exam for this semester was last night but i am taking 2 summer classes...so weekends or fridays are better for me. i think i can make july 12th. hey, where is weout? they live around these parts, too. gotta have weout there...xo

wafer not, i church hop and although i have seen some "dead" churches....i have found 4 that i really like.....one is a foursquare, one is an assembly of God, and the other two are nondenominational. they are all bible believing churches that believe in speaking in tongues and have EXCELLENT music....i just LOVE the music! and get this, one of them NEVER takes a collection...it's a huge church...with 2 services packed with about 2000 people each....they are building a new building and never talk about money....the pastor doesn't believe in passing a collection plate.....so he just sticks 2 barrels in the corner of the church and if you want to drop something in, you can.... it's an interesting idea and it's a prosperous church.
