I just DARE them to come to Cols. I see any of them "witnessing" around Buckeyeland I will treat them with....... love and kindness and a free cuppa at the Cafe! WG

Thanks for posting that reference. I'll try to find the original in the archives. I'm sorry Dr. Laura is looked at so narrowly. She's always been one of my heroes. WG

Sudo, it was in the 1990's and I think I could find it from Dr. Laura. They never retracted their findings, just said America "wasn't ready for it." I will check around or e-mail her website if I can.

I think the day is coming when pedophilia will be taken off the abnormal psychology list. Several years ago, the APA did a study that they published in their journal, stating that sexual relations between adults and children as young as four years of age were not harmful to the child and could be beneficial as long as it was with the child's consent. Dr. Laura Schlessinger had a fit about it in her magazine and on her radio show, and was roundly condemned by darn near everybody for her narrow-mindedness. If any pervert comes around my grandson, he will be sorry, and not because his hope of a relationship with the young'n was interrupted by nasty, narrowminded me - I could lie down on the gurney and happily hold out my arm for the needle knowing I had put that bas**rd in the ground. In America, we deny the very existence of sin and perversion in the name of choice. God help us.

My daughter-in-law is a lovely, clean, delightful young woman who happens to be in a severe financial crunch and if she couldnt shop at Wal-Mart, she wouldn't be able to feed my grandson and herself. The Super WalMart where she shops always looks fairly clean to me, though I'm sure it's hard to keep it that way with as much traffic as pours through it every day. I live not too far from several huge complexes of American Honda. I occasionally run across an employee or former employee who bitches about no UAW there. Honda takes good care of their employees, runs a strict shop and expects workers to do just that - work. EGADS! What a concept! And before someone says, "yeah, but all the profits from American Honda go straight to Japan" I heard a from executive VP for Honda Motorcycle speak once, and 95% of the profits from Honda America stay right here. Since I'm not the one who brought up the topic of labor unions..... My dad was a member of Teamsters local #135 for over 30 years. Our health insurance was excellent. He worked for a good company and never had to strike when contract time came up. Before Gene Sansouci came down and organized, there was no health insurance, and my dad worked six days a week for very little pay and no benefits to speak of. Although he paid a day's pay every month in union dues, for most of the years he worked it was worth it. So, for much of my life I believed labor unions were a good thing. However, many of them, not all have become bloated and in my opinion, bleed the management dry. Why do you think the American auto companies, whose fans give me such grief for driving a Honda (Honda is nonunion), are closing up shop? They have to pay such huge sums to the unions for perk after perk after perk, and full retirement benefits for life, they can't afford to operate in this country, so they move their factories out of country to try to survive. My husband worked as a production supervisor for a company that made glass for televisions south of Columbus. For every 2 hours worked, the union dictated the workers got a 30 minute break. They did NOT shut down the lines when they went to watch their soap operas and smoke, so the glass on the lines just fell to the floor and smashed for 30 minutes, then was swept back down to go back to the furnaces and melted again. My husband was written up by the union steward in his area for picking up a tool that fell to the floor - he was taking work away from a union member, who had dropped it and strolled away. So there are two sides to the union argument. I think if people who work at Wal-Mart feel they don't make enough money or have enough benefits, they could always get a job elsewhere. American is basically becoming a welfare state, where people feel they should not have to work too hard to have all the toys life has to offer. How different are our values from those of the founders of this great nation, and how easy it is to forget that most of the world's population would adore to have a job making what they make! And if you feel it is just awful for some people to have more than others, go live where no one has anything! The Soviet Union was founded on the principal that every person should have exactly the same. The result of their philosophy was the destruction of their middle class, leaving only a few very wealthy and a lot of very poor. So now you have someone to chew on. Enjoy!

"Face to Face" and "Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus" are not exclusive Way Prod songs. They are in hymnals and song books all over the place. I used to think every song/hymn sung at TWI was written by TWI'ers. Much to my surprise, I find them all the time in the music in churches and hymnals I attend. WG

The Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier National Park. Not for the faint-hearted or the reckless driver, but breathtakingly beautiful. Winds through the park from west to east. No guardrails to speak of. BIG mountains. Also gotta agree with George about the North Cascades Highway. We camped in the National Park there once, and when I got up in the night for a potty break, the stars looked like they were just hanging right over the tree tops. Amazing!

Dear Hills and family, I looked on the site naming all the victims until I found his name and then I prayed for you. We will never "get over" it. We will always remember. We will never give up. We will never forget. Love, Watered Garden

No way did that come from a baby! I've changed a lot of diapers in the last three years and nothing I've found in any of them remotely resembles that $***. Perhaps they have a dog? Good grief! What kind of a dumb$*** would want to bronze their baby's stool?

I do agree, however, that this rule is idiotic. The present attorney general was supposed to be the candidate of choice by his party for gubernatorial candidate this time around. My husband was helping cater a party in 2001 and he was introduced as Ohio's next governor! He is a wannabe carbon copy of the pathetic, dishonest offensive excuse for a governor we have now. Too many times an angry youngster will shrill out lying accusations to teach the offending caregiver a lession. It actually happened with a WOW family we knew when we lived in Charleston. The stepdad smacked the girl upside the head for cursing her mother and sent the little hellion to her room, where she climbed out a window and ran to a friend's house. The friend's mom was an investigator for social services, and the dad got hauled off to jail that very night! Nothing came of it, except as I recall the child was sent off to live with her dad, much to her delight and his eventual dismay. Some kids do lie, in spite of what DSS will tell you. WG

SFSailor, From someone identifying with the state that elected Ahnold as the governator, I think that at the very least was the pot calling the kettle dirty! Proud to be a Buckeye!

I heard some DJ's on a morning show making fun of him and calling him a freak and an idiot this morning. I'm sure his wife and children will get to hear a lot of this kind of attitude in the coming days. He did what he did because he loved the animals so much. Yeah, it's easier to blast a dangerous snake, but it has its place in the world, too, I guess. I remember when an ancient crocodile in his zoo was found dead and he cried like a baby. The croc had been a gift to him from his father when he was about 10 years old. He was responsible for taking care of her. I didn't always agree with him, but I always enjoyed watching him. Few people are as enthusiastic about their vocation as he was.

Please define "butchering the truth." Do you mean by that phrase that they are teaching material contrary to the teachings of VPW or LCM? If so, I would suggest you seriously listen, given the possibility that it was VPW or LCM who was "butchering the truth." I have found that not every golden word uttered by these two socalled "apostles" was truth at all. Example: In PFAL, expounding on the situation with David, Bathsheba, and Uriah, VPW proclaims "All the women in the kingdom belonged to the king!" Gee, I thought all the women in the kingdom belonged to God. I thought God said "Thou shalt not commit adultery." I thought David was under the same Law as everyone else. Of course, he did get his general killed so he could have Bathsheba, who was pregnant. If there were no problem with him getting her in the family way, why do that? After all, she already belonged to David the king, not Uriah, who was merely her husband? Set me free when I heard a minister in a church say that it was sin for David to have sexual relations with Bathsheba, who was another man's wife. It was adultery, against God's law. But as I recall, VPW says the only thing David did wrong was arrange for Uriah's demise. Just a suggestion. WG

I am so sorry to hear about Ben. He was the nicest guy, always calling someone "Lucious" or something silly like that. Were he and Audrey in or out? I always hoped they'd get free of TWI. They were hounded mercillessly by VR and DM our twig and branch leaders respectively, for reasons that were nobody's business but their own. :(

I recently saw a picture of a cloud like the one in question in a National Geographic article about tornadoes. It was called a wall cloud, and tornado chasers often call it a "mother ship" because it is likely to spawn tornadoes. This one was over the prairie states, Oklahoma or some place, was horrible looking. Whatever it is properly called, if I saw one, I'd run like the very devil!

Waysider, I sent you a personal message. We may know each other. I don't know about you, but I'll never eat familia again! Watered Garden PS: The Wayside is now a Marathon station. The Wagon Wheel (Broken Spoke) has gone through several metamorphoses and I don't know what it is now. The cow pasture we ran past every morning is a Grace Brethren Church.

CW, if you come back to look at this it's important to me that you know that I love you. Mental illness is no more necessarily caused by devil spirit possession than cancer is. This world would suffer great loss if it were without you. Get healthy, stay healthy. Take one day, one hour, one nanosecond at a time. God bless you. WG

Stayed Too Long, my son was diagnosed with ADHD and we were told to GET RID OF HIM! When he was smaller, he was to be severely thrashed for every twitch. It just depended on who you were with, where you were, etc. Incidentally, the illustrious author of this article left out the spiritual importance of leaving for work 30 minutes earlier than usual to avoid the interminably long "spectator delays" on the way to work, if there has been a fender bender up ahead of you. But I guess if you have "in-depth spiritual perception and awareness" you will know it's going to happen and take another route. I still think this is moronic. I'm all for organization and doing things decently and in order, but too much regimentation can seriously inhibit the kind of spontaneity that can add joy to one's life. Example: I have a 3 year old grandson. When we go for walks together, he does not look straight ahead and march along at a swift pace. He sees a rock, and must stop and examine it and show it to me. Now if I had regimented into my tightly organized day exactly, precisely and specifically 10 minutes for a brisk march up and down the street with him, I would miss the joy of his amazement and delight at the size, shape, appearance and texture of that rock, which to me is just a part of the driveway, but to his fresh young eyes is a miracle! And I'm for miracles!

Some of this stuff is just practical and logical, but this article makes it into a religion. I try to have 5 days worth of clothes in the closet ready to go on Monday morning, not so I can be peaceful and godly or whatever this woman was talking about, but so I can sleep 15 more minutes! But if I don't, I don't. This is awfully complicated and explained and explained and explained again. No spontaneity, no allowances made for the kid who throws up on your shoes as the schoolbus pulls up to the curb. And the mother of small children is supposed to take a bath in the morning? I thought she was supposed to take a shower the night before. And one other random thought. Obviously the author of this article is pretty sure her audience is too stupid to figure all this out for him/herself. Were there any recipes attached for a properly nutritional (nutritious) breakfast? Maybe a menu plan should have been included. It bothers me a lot that the children are to be so regimented. A lot! Belle, In retrospect, if any perceived human qualities were observed, they were considered weakness, and were exaggerated beyond belief in order to persecute the hapless target into leaving or become sufficiently frustrated, upset, and angry to give them an excuse to M&A. Jesus never once M&A'd someone or forbade them to come to him if they were actually wrong. He did, however, have a lot to say about the Pharisees and their hardness of heart. THEY were the ones who accused, railed against, examined each mote of dust. They were legalistic, self serving and self promoting. Sound familiar? WG

What were the roles/expectations of children in TWI?
Watered Garden replied to qtana's topic in About The Way
Qtana, #1: Welcome to the cafe! #2: Regarding sexual abuse of children, there are several threads that cover that nasty subject, and I expect someone with more expertise than I will find them for you and post a link(s). There is at least one thread covering a WC grad who is in prison as I type for just that thing. HFC: home fellowship coordinator (formerly known as twig leader or twig coordinator). HF: home fellowship. WG
