  1. Krys, P-Mosh has a good idea. Check the system log in the Event Viewer to see if it has recorded a system error that caused a reboot. Here is a link that might help. http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/wxpevent.htm If the system log did not record a reboot event, then it is most likely a hardware or driver related. Also, your startup and recovery settings can determine if the system reboots or if it does not. Under Control Panel > System Properties > Advanced, find the recovery options. If set to "reboot" uncheck it and see of the problem ceases. This is how Win 2000 works - XP should have a similar option. 2. Goey will never give up ! Here's my bio ladies. What do y'all think ? Goey: 48 year old divorced male. 5'10", 165. Reddish blond hair/blue eyes. Married three times (longest 3 years). Have spoiled 4-year-old daughter. Former cult member. Recovered alcoholic & drug addict (now 13 years clean and sober). Have had two heart attacks and 3 heart surgeries in last 5 years. Enjoy collecting guns, hunting and fishing. Live in a small cabin in the woods on 83 acres in Central Texas. Have big tractor. Think I need to clean this up a bit ? Goey
  3. Corry, I hear you I am 48, divorced nearly 4 years, and have a 4 year old daughter, that stays with me over 1/2 the time. Joint custody. It is a challenge. I have quit looking for a mate at this point. If the right person comes along - fine, I trust that God will give show me (and her). But I am not asking for or actively seeking a mate. I am trying to stay out of the way this go around. As far as the Christian/Christian thing goes, (I am one) I have found that this is not enough by itself, and in many cases can actually be a problem when one tries to force their brand on the other. I would rather be with a kindhearted and giving unbeliever than with an obnoxious dogmatic Christian anyday. Bill Roth A.K.A Goey
  4. Ever see one of those movies where you become sympathetic, and cheer for the bad guy? Well, sometimes I kind of "admire" the crook or the con that can "get away with it". I admit it. I was really searching and trying to find some way that I could possibly "admire" V.P. Weirwille. He "got away with it" for years. But, TWI wasn't the movies. - The damage was real, and the victims were real, and the pain was real. No admiration here. I tried. Oh well. Goey
  5. Goey is sort of an evolved name. I started out as GotOutEarly when I first began posting at GS, well, because I left TWI pretty early - in 1982 or so. Then I began to sign my posts as GOE. Finally some dear folks here began to call me Goey on a silly thread called "Mistaken Post - Please Ignore" and thus "Oops" was born and so was my current handle- Goey. My Icon? ... Thats really me. Or is it? Bill Roth Milano, Texas gotoutearly@hotmail.com Goey
  6. Yep, ole Doc Vic comdemned mind altering drugs alright... while he drank and smoked himself into oblivion. But his use of alcohol and tobbacco was "medicinal" I am sure. He probably used Timothy as a "proof text" for his alcohol abuse. But, let me get this straight... If it grows in the ground then it must be good, and if it is manufactured by a Pharmacutical Company then it must be bad. Is that it? Sorry, I don't get it. Both natural remedies such as herbs, and modern pharmacuticals have their place. Many (if not most) pharmacuticals have their roots in the plant world. Both herbs and pharmacuticals can be helpful... or deadly. Either can be misused or abused. I recall the time that I ate some "silly" mushrooms. You know, the ones that grow on a cow patty. WOW!. Did I trip my brains out. But the darn things messed up my stomach for days. I much rather preferred pharmacutical grade LSD. So much for "natural". (This was in the 60's folks) Fredric asked concerning a Christian taking Prosac: The difference is that the Prosac is being taken to address a "medical condition" and not for the purpose of getting messed up, while the pot is being used for the sole purpose of getting high or messed up. Prosac and other such drugs are no good for recreational purposes. This question seems to assume that Prosac and such can mess you up like pot... they can't. I would be more concerned about Xanax, Clonapin, Vicodin, etc. for that seemingly endless supply of folks with anxiety disorder and chronic back pain. Now these can really mess you up and are highly addictive. Danger! Danger!. But, I have known at least one person who would occasionally quit taking their Prosac, in order to go on a "scheduled" manic for recreational purposes. They said it was better than doing coke or speed. Go figure. Yep, the medical/phycological community is pretty quick to declare a person depressed and to despense these anti-depressants as a fix. The doctor makes out, the psycologist makes and the drug company makes out. But, as I understand the nunbers, the patient has the same chance of getting better if they eat crawfish one a week and bathe every other day. And it is a pretty sure bet that anti-depressants won't do much good in curing an a$$hole from a$$holism or a lazy bum from being a lazy bum. Character flaws can't be fixed with anti-depressants. But of course these drugs do work wonders in some cases. As far a TWI's teaching on pharmakeia goes, I am with Galen. It was a stretch and pretty bad "research". There are two words that were used. Pharmakeia - witchcraft and Pharmakeus - sorcerer. According to Strong's: pharmakeia 1) the use or the administering of drugs 2) poisoning 3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it 4) metaph. the deceptions and seductions of idolatrypharmakisr pharmakeus from pharmakon (a drug, i.e. spell-giving potion);; n m AV - sorcerer 1; 1 1) one who prepares or uses magical remedies 2) sorcerer It seems fairly plain to me that that these words have nothing to do with herbs or medicines used for the healing arts. Pharmakeia has to do with potions and poisons used in the context of witchcraft and sorcery and could even possibly be used metaphoricaly. Did not Jesus say, "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick" ? (Mat 9:12) Goey
  7. Mark, It looks like you have done the standard stuff to fix the Java problem you are having. It should be working at this point but obviously is is not. First, can I assume that you do not have a virus?. If there is no virus present, then you may have an operating system problem that might be hard to track down - like a missing or corupted file. As a last resort, I would try to reinstall the the Windows Me Operating system doing an "over the top" reinstall. This will restore any missing or corrupted files. Goey
  8. Krysilis, Your DSL modem uses an "RJ-11" interface which is just like a standard phone connector. However, at DSL speeds, you will need a premium cord. I reccomend at least a "Category 3" that has twisted wires inside. It will be a round cord instead of a flat one. You should be able to get something like this at Frey's or possibly Radio Shack. It is called an ADSL extension cable. Belkin makes good cables. Goey [This message was edited by Goey on July 06, 2002 at 17:54.]

  12. I think it is safe to assume that the Admin or anyone with admin priviliges can see any topic thread, including a private one. Paw ? The only way a regular user can view a private topic is if the person who started the topic invited them or checked the field that allows everyone to read it. A person is not automatically notified when they have been invited into a private topic. To find out is you have been invited into a private topic, periodically open "MySpot" and check the "Private Topic" tab. Or just click on the Private Topics icon at the bottom of a page like this one. [This message was edited by GOEY on June 24, 2002 at 17:06.]

  14. Bowtwi, This kind of stuff makes me so angry, even now. I am so sorry that you had to go through this. You and so many others. One of the reasons I left TWI because I saw this kind of stuff comming. Even in the 70's an 80's I saw folks getting reamed for stuff that they did not do. It is a good thing I left, because I would most likely have kicked some serious butt and gotten my self kicked out pretty quick anyway. But, sometimes I wish I would have stayed longer and could have helped others to see what I saw happpening early on. These chicken $hit leaders count on folks being intimidated while they hide behind their ordinations or leadership postions. It's too bad that it was mostly the heartless, spineless jerks, cowards, and LCM wannabes that got promoted the "more important" leadership positions in TWI, suck-ups who wouldn't know God if he appeared in person. They make me sick. TWI and it's cowardly leaders are an absolute disgrace to God and to Christianity. How anyone can continue to support them is beyond me. Goey

  17. Hey, I don't really care too much one way or another. I can adjust to whatever decision Paw makes on this. To me it is not too important, although I do realize that it is quite important to a some to have it either one way or another. If I had to vote on this and my vote really made a difference, I would probably abstain. Personaly, here at GS I don't think I have ever gone after someone who has edited or deleted a post, although I was annoyed one time when someone changed the title of a thread, which also changed the meaning of it. My input to the thread then looked totally rediculous since it addressed the original title and meaning. This is the kind of stuff that an edit limit might possibly help. But these kind of things are infrequent. I frequent several other boards as well as GS. A couple of these these allow no editing at all so I suppose I have learned to live with it. For what it's worth, it does not seem to make much of a difference either way. Either way works fine for me. Goe
  18. Ginger, The irritation is pretty much a small thing... At least to me. What it may be more about is accountability. Everyone here already knows the risk involved in posting personal information. So that is for the most part a non-issue. If they post personal info and a wacko starts bothering them, then what good would editing the post after that do? If an ex-spouse find out someones true feelings, deleting or editing the post seems kinda like destroying the evidence. Now, if someone twists anothers words, or misrepresents anothers position... in the real world the normal response is to challenge or address that response by way of a reply. That is what discussion and debate is all about. To me, to back up and delete or edit what we said a week later with little or no explanation is kind of like saying, "I never said that". I understand that there are delicate souls here. And that is why they should be all the more careful as to what they post. A 24 hour time frame should ample for someone to remove or edit a post that they regret. Goe
  19. It is sometimes rather irritating when a post is edited to change the content or meaning... especially if it is weeks, or in a recent occurence, months later. I think that a 24 hour time frame is good idea, because it would give folks time to cool off if angry, and sober up if drunk and... reconsider having the whole world see something that they regret having said. On the other hand, if editing were not allowed after an hour, some posters might think a little more deeply about what they really want to say, knowing that the whole world will be able to see it as long as the board is in business. However, Paw may be flooded with requests to delete or edit posts after folks have a change of heart. When there is no time limit, some may feel more free to post their inane, rude or less than thoughtful comments, knowing that they can change or delete it at anytime. However, this may allow us to see the real person a little better... warts and all. Maybe we could try the 60 minute time limit for a while and if it proved too cumbersome, move to the 24 hour limit. If that did not work out, just take off the limits altogether. Goey [Edited within 60 minutes to correct spelling] [This message was edited by GOE on June 14, 2002 at 2:54.]
