I should say that if you're splitting digital/HD coax, make sure you get the highest bandwidth rating on your splitters. Most of the old ones are ony about 400MHz. Get the 1GHz versions so your HD signal won't get clipped at the split. I also think the reviews that say it's just another Dances With Wolves don't really do this film justice. I'll go out on a limb and say TLS was a superior film to DWW. While the chances of Cruise getting an Oscar nom are only about 50-50, I think Ken Watanabe will definitely be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. (Andy Serkis should win it, though, for his work in Lord of the Rings, but that's a tricky issue.) Depends on the size of the bag, but only theoretically. Sunny, Duncan, and Gabrielle would immediately try to claw their way out, while Gracie and Angel would crawl under Buster, who wouldn't give a crap, and Teddy would think the whole thing was some new form of playtime and pester the rest until someone paw-pinned him. ;)--> Secret Signature of the Day==v Atheists will not burn in Hell because of their disbelief, but rather because they're such insufferable a**holes about it.

Well, we've now taken in SEVEN homeless cats: Sunny, Buster, Gracie, Duncan, Angel, Gabrielle, and Teddy. The first two and last two were vet rescues, the middle three from friends and relatives with unplanned litters. All have been fixed, save for little Teddy, who's only 3 months old, but his man-bits will be out for the chop before his first birthday. They do tend to get a bit expensive, but cats, thankfully, are low-maintenance pets. Of course, multiply one low-maintenance bit by seven... :)--> Secret Signature of the Day==v Atheists will not burn in Hell because of their disbelief, but rather because they're such insufferable a**holes about it.

Steve: I think you're off-base here. TLS was an excellent movie and there are a few white guys who get killed... Regardless if it was Germans instead of Americans, the real story of TLS is the Japanese themselves. The Japanese supporting cast is top-notch and truly carry the film. So much so, in fact, that anyone could have played Tom Cruise's part and not significantly altered the movie. Go see it, it's not a waste of time or money. Secret Signature of the Day==v Fnord.

I think Wonder was referring to the local churches, not the spinoffs, but I could be wrong. Wonder: I might add to what others have posted that the best thing you can do is to start experiencing life through life's eyes. What I mean by that is, Jesus Christ didn't come here just to joust and fence with the Jews and Romans. It happened from time to time, but it wasn't a 24/7 contention with the people. He came not only to deliver us, but to show us how life could be. We lost sight of that in the Way. We became so concerned over every jot and tittle that we lost sight of the Alpha and Omega. You don't have to believe Jesus is God, you don't have to give up the belief that the Gospels were only "for our learning". But he is the example set for us. Some notable things Jesus DIDN'T do: --Pore endlessly over concordances and interlinears. He walked out among the people, ate with them, celebrated with them, grieved with them. --Feel superior to anyone in his knowledge. He let his life tell the story, not last week's Official Twig Teaching™. --Condemn the rank and file Jews or Gentiles. Whenever he got on someone's case, it was usually some leader using their position abusively. --Try to convert everybody. Jesus freaks are obnoxious boors. He led by example, not by rabid arrogant evangelism. Living to serve doesn't just mean serving those who already believe as you do. There is no PFAL class anymore, so you no longer have to sign every person on the planet up. Don't be so insecure in your beliefs that you take every religious difference as a personal challenge, either. Arrogance never converted anybody. TWI made you keep your face in a book all the time. Perhaps it's time to put that book knowledge into action. It's not like you're studying for God's Final Exam or anything! Look at everyone here. Nearly all of us used to be green-card carrying Wayfers, but now there's Unitarians, Catholics, Messianic Jews, Offshooters, and even atheists here. Sure, we have our squabbles and knock-down drag-outs, but it's real and it's ours. We aren't forced to conform when we don't want to. We help each other of our own volition, not because some Limb Leader is looking over our shoulders. We believe what we want to believe, not what Word-O'-The-Week is handed down. It's what the real world was all along during our blindered-days in TWI. Enough sermonizing from me. You may not have a map of where to go from here, but look down. The only thing that matters is that you have FEET. Pick a direction and see where it leads you. God bless! Zixar Secret Signature of the Day==v Fnord.

Yes, the THX Optimizer is on the Pirates DVD #1, in the Set-Up menu, I think. As for splitting normal cable, that's easy. Just get a 75-ohm two-way splitter from Wal-Mart or Radio Shack. I'd be surprised if it cost you over five bucks. You'd need two additional 75-ohm coax cables to lead off the splitter, too. Connect one to the antenna input of your cable box, the other to your tv tuner card. Of course, the tv tuner won't be able to receive digital cable channels or scrambled channels like HBO, but you can watch local networks and basic cable (non-HD) channels just fine that way. If you ever decide to make the jump to satellite, you can't just split the RG-6 cable that way, it won't work. You'd need two separate cable runs to your dish's LNB or multiswitch. It's really server-dependent. If it's running on a Windows web server, then FP2k is the way to go. If it's running on a Unix server, you might want to take a look at Dreamweaver instead. Secret Signature of the Day==v Fnord.

Tom: Very cool. Kevin's a nice guy, or so I'm led to understand. Secret Signature of the Day==v Fnord.

John: Also make sure you run the THX Optimizer tests on some of the more recent DVDs. I went through the THX calibration on the Pirates of the Caribbean disc and found out one of my speakers had been wired out of phase for years. Swapping the wires improved the stereo imaging 100%. George: I think what P-Mosh was referring to was some of the more recent Japanese adult animation (anime) like Urotsukidoji which featured scenes of women getting raped to death by tentacled demons. Needless to say, I only watched about half of one episode and don't care to see any more of it. Give me old cheesy episodes of Uchuu Senkan Yamato or Kido Senshi Gundam--they can keep the snuff cartoons. Secret Signature of the Day==v Fnord.

Ttessa: Simple. Your ovaries are not the only glands that produce sex hormones. Your adrenal glands do too, they do so for life, and, relevant to your question, produce both estrogen AND testosterone. When the ovaries dial back on the estrogen production, the adrenals are still producing testosterone, only now there isn't as much estrogen drowning out its effects. Testosterone is the only true aphodisiac on the planet, and it works equally well on women as men. In short, ladies, welcome to OUR world! :)--> Now, can you imagine what it feels like to be a 16-year old boy whose testicles are in full production, say ten or twenty times the amount of testosterone in their blood as yours now? Sister, you ain't seen horny! :D--> That's why teenagers masturbate as much as they do--they can't control their hormones any more than you can control your hot flashes. Worse, hot flashes come and go, but testosterone levels don't fluctuate enough to make much difference. Whether they're ten times as horny as you are, or merely six times in off-peak hours, well, you do the math. Levels gradually decrease over time, but unless a man loses testicular or erectile function, he can be sexually active into his 80s. That's why men are always thinking about sex--because they're always FEELING about sex due to testosterone. It's a wonder we ever get any work done... ;)--> NEW DISCLAIMER: Please do not construe this message as a personal attack unless otherwise instructed. Thank you for your cooperation. No, that's not quite right. The "music" labeled blank CDs are for standalone CD recorders, like one you would have hooked up to your stereo. They cost more because the RIAA forced the audio companies to pay a small royalty on every blank disc sold, ostensibly to offset revenue loss from people making copies. These recorders can only use "music" labeled CDs. They have some info encoded on them that tells the recorder it's ok to record on it. "Data" CDs are for computer use only. They don't have the "music" info encoded on them and cannot be used in standalone recorders. HOWEVER, your compact disc PLAYER can't tell the difference between the two! (It's not in the original CD specification which all players must meet.) Computers can write to EITHER type of disc, though. They don't care about the "music" info either. So, the ONLY reason (only, only, only) to pay extra for "music" CDs over "data" CDs is if your recorder isn't part of your computer. If you're using your computer, ALWAYS use the "data" CDs--they're cheaper, and the sound is identical from both because it's all digital anyway. Save your money. :)--> Secret Signature of the Day==v Rocky's just mad because Boris Badunov thinks Bullwinkle's the brains of the outfit.

An advanced preview of the movie was in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The reviewer loved the film and said that Gollum has another good schizoid conversation with his reflection. Maybe that will remind the voters of his performance in Two Towers. Secret Signature of the Day==v Rocky's just mad because Boris Badunov thinks Bullwinkle's the brains of the outfit.

Trefor: Turns out you were correct, Saruman's death did not make the final cut, although it will be on the DVD. I also heard today that Andy Serkis actually appears non-digitally in ROTK as Smeagol in Gollum's flashback-origin story. I wonder if that wasn't added as an afterthought so he would finally be eligible for an Oscar nomination for his work...? Andy was cheated last year--he OWNED the Supporting Actor category. Oh well. Flu Season - Think about a flu shot
Zixar replied to QamiQazi's topic in Health, Wellness, and Fitness
QQ: Mostly correct. The flu vaccine contains certain proteins of the flu virus that triggers the antibody response without actually being infected. You may get the histamine reactions (stuffy nose, increased bronchial secretions, slight fever, etc.) for a while, as if you had contracted the flu, but once the antibodies form, you're good to go. You don't want it with an upper-respiratory infection because it does make you more susceptible to other airborne pathogens while the antibody machine is gearing up to speed. Raf: The third one redeems it--slightly. But only if you look at it as a standalone action flick. Secret Signature of the Day==v Tom Strange made me change this. Probably at John Ashcroft's request... :D-->
