  1. Usually a DVD writing software will tell you the drive's capabilities, or you can go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manger and look at the drive properties directly.
  2. P-Mosh: Is it "The Swan" or "Extreme Makeover"?
  3. OE: Glad to hear you're happy with it. DVD-Shrink and DVD-Decrypter are excellent programs, and I use both of them frequently. I manage to hit a sale at CompUSA and get their generic DVD-R blanks for about $0.50 each. They're listed as only 1x discs, but the drive recognizes them as 2x and writes accordingly. Never had a problem with any of them.
  4. I thought they had renamed it America's Wackiest Testicular Injuries and moved it to The Moron Channel. Guess I was wrong...
  5. My prediction? Christopher will be the last man standing at the end of the series. Paulie and Silvio have no chance to make it. I wouldn't bet long cash on Tony surviving, either. But that's all a guess on my part.
  6. A few of you know that Zixette lost her job a few days before Steve!&Cindy!'s wedding, which prevented me from attending. Well, God has blessed us again. She now has a new job, making 30% more than she was before, and she gets to work at home, which she wanted. Thanks to all who were praying for our situation. We really appreciate your support!
  7. No, just an incurable wise-a**. ;)--> I'd like to have been a teacher, but computer work pays so much better--and you don't suck in chalk dust all day, either. :)-->
  8. Tom: Those 2.4 GHz phones are nasty on WiFi networks. Try changing the channel on your router away from 6. Or, try changing the channel on your phone. There are also 5 GHz phones now, but some of them still use some 2.4 GHz signaling, so you have to read up on your models.
  9. Geez, that brings back memories. I think it was right before I took the class, the woman who had witnessed to me on CompuServe called me in my dorm room about 3am. "(sniff) Doctor Wierwille's dead..." "Uhhh....Doctor who?" And the rest is history, as they say.
  10. laleo: It's "whom", in this case. "...a husband whom I love," and "...children whom I love" are correct. (At least you didn't use "that" or "which"--those aren't used when talking about people.) You can tell an objective pronoun is required in this case because you are the one doing the loving, and the husband is the object of that love, hence, "...a husband whom I love". If it's your husband that's doing the loving, then he's the subject and you're the object--"...a husband who loves me..." See? :)--> (added later: I almost forgot the third possibility, predicate nominatives. They always take the subject form, even though it's commonly misused in American English. "That guy is who?" is correct. (simple test: invert the sentence--"who is that guy" is correct, so "that guy is who" is equivalent.) The most common misuse is typified by sentences like "Is that him?" Since "is" is a form of "to be", it's a predicate nominative situation. The correct usage is "Is that he?" So the common "That's him!" should really be "That's he!" Of course, when most of the population is completely baffled by something as simple as an apostrophe, the chances of "That's him" and its like disappearing approach zero. --> )
  11. Well, maybe Dictatrix is too tough a term for Rascal. Then again, she is a tough girl... Directrix is a bit tamer, and a bit more appropriate, being a totally-inside joke that only she'll get... ;)--> Clear skies and hot jets, Zix9M9Zix :D-->
  12. Well let's try that, shall we? ...Hitler just suffered from "little man" syndrome, which is why he was such a bully. The Jews should just get over it. ...Jeffrey Dahmer just happened to want a snack. ...Imelda Marcos was saving up shoes for the needy. Excuse me while I go puke.
  13. Yes, but do you know what a dictatrix is? :D-->
  14. Pirate: Kelly Clarkson won season 1, Ruben Studdard won season 2 (although the runner-up, Clay Aiken, has had more commerical success than Studdard), and next week's show will determine the winner of season 3. It's really not such a bad show, although there is a LOT of filler on the Wednesday vote-results episodes. Some of the kids have excellent voices.
  15. I doubt that very seriously. In fact, I think most folks don't really take me seriously and just see my posts as what they are, as varying opinions from someone who doesn't see it the way they do. If perchance someone takes my opinions to heart and gets bummed out, they shouldn't. Don't blame me for wanting to express an opinion that you might disagree with. I have news for you. There are a lot of people taking this seriously. I italicized the above sentence to show how deeply-ingrained your blame-shifting has become. The attitude expressed in that sentence is the same as if you blamed an African-American for getting upset at your mention of the word "nigger". Like, it's their fault if you're an insensitive clod?
  16. AOL Time Warner is in a better position, team-up wise, since they own the entire DC franchise, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, etc. Maybe the thing to do would be a Supes/Batman team-up to jumpstart both of their movie franchises.
  17. I don't know who voted Rascal the official Dictatrix of the Weenie Roast... ...but I applaud their wisdom. ;)-->
  18. oldies: The problem is that (as I'm sure WordWolf, Goey, and/or Raf is/are sure to expound upon) the sentence is indefensible in the context of the abuse victims. You've made yourself perfectly clear in that you wish to retain your admiration for a man regardless of the despicable acts he committed. It's one thing if all VPW had done was get caught with his hand in the collection basket. But it's quite another when your hero has violated other human beings for no cause other than satisfying his own lusts. There is no excuse for that, no defense for that. Every time you stick up for your hero, you might as well be raping these women yourself. You're certainly humiliating them anew. Would you call them guilty lying adulteresses to their face if you met? Or does the anonymity of the Internet give you false courage? Either way, it should be fairly obvious by now that bringing up this subject always gets you the same treatment. The most positive thing you can do now is keep your hero-worship to yourself. I can't stop you from loving Wierwille, but when your careless words reopen these women's wounds, you can bet the farm I'm going to have plenty to say about it. The wise move would be to drop this. And by the way, in this usage, it would be "presumption" rather than "presumptuousness". You're apologizing for a specific presumptuous act rather than your particular predilection towards being presumptuous.
  19. oldiesman: While I appreciate your admiration of that phrase, WordWolf and Raf are correct in that you are using it quite out of context. If you want to use it verbatim, I'd ask that you remove the attribution. I neither agree with nor endorse the context in which you are using it, so please take my name off of it. I don't see why it's so hard for you to grasp the error of blaming the victim. Perhaps a different analogy will illustrate: Let's say you die, and (to your surprise) you appear instantly before the proverbial Pearly Gates with St. Peter standing there, right out of a Sunday School book. Pete consults the Big Book and says, "Ooooooh, I'm sorry, but the trinitarians were right. You didn't believe Jesus is God, can't let you in." "But, but, that's what I was taught!" you say. "Sorry. You should have known all along that Jesus was God, so that's no excuse." replies Peter. "But I never meant any disrespect! It's not my fault!" "Of course it is. You listened to a bad teacher and you followed his orders. You could have said no, but you didn't." "But..." "Sorry, gotta keep the line moving. Elevator's right over there. Next!"
  20. No, mine is an external antenna booster that you attach the original router's antennas to. The one you describe is a true WiFi repeater and will probably extend the range better than a plain antenna booster.
  21. TWI loved to trumpet Zaire and the work Rev. Bayunga Nioka-Simbi was doing over there. Of course, those were African-Africans, not African-Americans. If a "whites-preferred" policy existed, it didn't permeate the entire organization, at least not while I was in it. Our twigs were usually at least half non-Caucasian.
  22. So, if someone leads a child astray, the child should obviously get a millstone too, since the child was foolish enough to believe the leader? Doesn't matter if they were led, of course--they still shouldn't have followed their teacher when he was wrong? Good thing Jesus said that. Oh, wait. He didn't.Good grief.
