John, Re:"..Sudo, I am not sure but I bet they have designed those tunes such that you can not save them." Oh fer sure, no doubt. What I'm looking for is a workaround like there is for RealAudio RAM files. Maybe there's a hack program somewheres that does this?? sudo
-
Does anyone know how to save the WMA, WAV or MP3 files that open on Amazon and other sites when you click on the sample tunes? As they play, the 'Save Media As' option is grayed out and you can't save it. Here's an example.. go to this Amazon site HERE! and scroll about 1/4 of the way down where you can listen to samples. It's easy to get the RealAudio samples. You just right click on the RealAudio link and save the target (a RAM file) and then edit to find the location of the RA file. But what about the Windows Media Player files? You click on that link and download that target and you get an ASF file. You can edit that and see where they placed the WMA file but try to get that and you get a dang WAX (never heard of it) file. You can open it but it's not helpful. At least to me. Maybe someone knows how to do this?? In other words.. how do you save media files made for Windows Media Player? sudo

Astronomy as a Hobby--anyone can do it!
Sudo replied to Zixar's topic in Cafe starry eyed discussions
Zix, Last year you were planning on bringing your telescope to the weenie roast, remember? When you backed out I was disappointed because I was looking forward to your teaching us a few things and getting to look through the thing. You gonna' make this year's roast and bring the 'scope??? sudo -
Tom, Re:"..but the guy who's behind it (David Milch) said he did research for a year and every indication was that the language was "that bad"..." I have a hard time believing that they cursed in the same manner in the 1870's as they do today. Like others here, I was REALLY put off by the language. Fact is, I couldn't watch the show with the volume up because of the kids in the house. And like Zix said, I think it was gratuitous language. HBO likes to use potty mouth even when it's not needed for context. To top it all.. it wasn't even that good and I was expecting much better writing. Like Hope said.. the $20K and $14K didn't make sense. Why would Swearangen object to driving up the price?? I don't think I'm going to watch any more episodes. I hate it. The previews looked so promising. sudo

Bluzeman, What are you saying? That I have a program currently running that is advertising open ports? When I have the firewall up.. I have no problems but when it is down, I'm getting pinged right and left and if I didn't have the Opaserve patch, would get infected in minutes. Also, my firewall lets me know when programs are trying to access the internet. Most of the time it's been programs like pop-up stopper or Adobe Acrobat reader looking for updates but I caught the Opaserve worm (Puta!.com) trying to do it, too, so I knew I had gotten infected. So... what's YOUR take on whether or not a person with only dial up should be using a firewall? sudo
-
Goey, Re:" I was infected with w32:blaster (Msblast.exe) within 15 minutes!" I have the same thing happen to me at the office only it's some variant of FUNLOVE or Opaserve. I'm really curious if anyone in the IT biz has seen this. I'm running Windows 98 SE on and old Pentium I 166Mzh with a dial up connection. I've been doing this since October 1996, though I upgraded from Windows 95 to 98 about two years ago. The experts used to say an internet firewall was unnecessary if only a dial up connection were used, right? I have found that if connected to the internet for even a brief time with no firewall, I get a worm on the office machine. At first I thought maybe the infected computers pinging IP addresses were singling out AOL IP's since one dial up I use is the free dial up provided by Road Runner who uses AOL's dial up numbers. But no.. even when connected through the other ISP, I've gotten an infection almost immediately when I've forgotten to have the firewall turned on. Ever heard of this? Are firewalls now always required? Even for dial up connections? sudo

P-Mosh, Your physicians group link is none other than the group who released Atkins death certificate.. Physicians For Responsible Medicine. They have an agenda. They are rabid vegetarians. They unscrupulously obtained, distorted and then released Dr. Atkins death info. He did not die of heart disease as has been pointed out. People have belief systems when it comes to foods. Peta and vegans think meat is murder. Low carbers think pasta is of the debbil. If you look around honestly at what scientific studies say, you'll see that the evidence is already in that the Atkins diet is both safe and effective in the short term. The only thing distractors can bring up now is long term effects. Those studies are currently being run, I understand. We'll just have to wait and see how they turn out but in the meantime, my lipid profile just keeps getting better and better. I feel better and gawd knows I look better. My gut feel is that the American Heart Association and others are going to have some crow to eat. sudo

Kit, Sounds like you're behind this guy but IMO he's dead wrong on every issue. I've lost nearly 60lbs in the last year and have never been healthier and had more energy. My cholesterol and triglycerides levels have plummeted. Oh except the HDL cholesterol (the good kind) that nearly doubled. In fact, my family physician took me off my cholesterol medication (Zocor) that I had been on for years. I didn't need it anymore. Not only that, but my blood pressure which had been creeping up close to the point of needing medication (right at 150/90) plummeted as well. It now runs about 116/65. And I guess my 51 year old arteries have been unclogging because I also never need those little blue pills in the bedroom anymore. I'm just like I was in my 20's now. No, Kit it's claptrap like what you've just posted that's keeping a lot of people from getting healthy, IMO. Why, I get far more fiber in my diet than I did before. I eat tons of salad, spinach, squash, Brussels sprouts, collard greens etc. Just how much fiber do you think is in sugar and bleached flour anyways? Those two items are 80% of what a person doing Atkins gives up. Most of the rest is stuff like french fries, baked potatoes and beans. This fool thinks all we low carbers are eating is meat and cheese evidently. Go to http://atkins.com and read all about what is really making us fat and unhealthy. It's the excess carbs for the most part. Trans fat is right up there, too. I don't know why it is but there must be defense mechanisms built into us about our weight. The most vehement folks against low carbing that I've run into personally are always people who are way overweight themselves. sudo

Hey Alfakat, Of those browsers you mentioned.. which one do you recommend? And aren't some of them that are free just 'demo' versions? Zix, What about it?? Ready to report back in?? sudo
-
Zix, You know it's going to be impossible to please everybody. If you want to go check it out, it wouldn't hurt. Especially if you were going to take the trip anyways. We all want to let our hair down, I can tell you that, so seems we are going to HAVE to be able to drink. We had at least two doggies last time. maybe that one's negotiable, I don't know, because I didn't bring a dog. sudo

Vickles, Re:"It doesn't seem right or fair, somehow." It's the law. That's why Doug was busted. You can't go waltzing around on private property without being invited. Yeah, TWI has every right to do what they do. What's telling is asking why they would do it. Folks check things out on the internet now-a-days so rest assured TWI's new potential converts are doing the same. They'll wonder big time why it is ANY religious organization prohibits people visiting a dang cemetary for Heavens sake!! Sheesh!! sudo

Dartanian, Re:"Am I being cynical or is that an indirect attack on what the Word of God makes very very clear with little need for exposition or interpretations." Ohhh.. You're good to have picked THAT up from my post. Yep. Gots to get up preeee-ty early in the morning to get one past you, I see. sudo

Daryl, I bet its REALLY getting tiresome having to read how you "chose" to be gay -->. But this is what fundamental Christianity teaches and there's no deviating from that orthodoxy for their adherents. Heck, just dress it up a little and say you love the sinner but hate the sin. Makes it a bit more palatable to cram down the throats of the newly converted fundies. You're alright in my book, Daryl, and like everyone else, I'm sure sorry about your sister. Funny how not getting answers to prayer doesn't bother most peoples' faith. They just continue on as if nothing had happened. A wise man learns from his mistakes. sudo

Dot, Re:"I don't recall that one... Was it on the Rock 'n roll stations?" Yeah, I think so but click HERE! to listen to it. A good tear jerker, huh? I also had Pirate's song, Last Kiss, but it's the Pearl Jam version.. not the original, because Pearl Jam came out with it last year and my middle teenage daughter had it in her music files. Listened to it night and day for weeks . click HERE! to listen to it as well. sudo

Why are Wierwille's Sins Excuseable and Martindale's Not?
Sudo replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
Al, Ex's dad was a college football player (who looked every bit the part) for Heaven's sake. Though he was a most gentle soul, I wouldn't want to be the one he found out was messing around his little girl. OOh! Makes me hurt just thinking about it. sudo -
THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON (A BLIND MAN IN THE BLEACHERS) David Geddes He's just the blind man in the bleachers To the local home town fans And he sits beneath the speakers Way back in the stands And he listens to the play by play He's just waiting for one name He wants to hear his son get in the game But the boy's not just a hero He's strictly second team Tho he runs each night for touchdowns In his father's sweetest dreams He's gonna be a star some day Tho you might never tell But the blind man in the bleachers knows he will And the last game of the season is a Friday night at home And no one knows the reason but the blind man didn't come And his boy looks kinda nervous Sometimes turns around and stares Just as tho' he sees the old man sittin' there The local boys are tryin' but they slowly lose their will Another player's down and now He's carried from the field At halftime in the locker room The kid goes off alone And no one sees him talkin' on the phone The game's already started When he gets back to the team And half the crowd can hear his coach yell "Where the hell you been?" "Just gettin' ready for the second half," Is all he'll say "Cause now you're gonna let me in to play." Without another word, he turns and runs into the game And through the silence on the field Loudspeakers call his name It'll make the local papers How the team came from behind When they saw him playin' his heart to win And when the game was over The coach asked him to tell What was it he was thinkin' of That made him play so well "You knew my dad was blind," he said "Tonight he passed away" "It's the first time that my father's seen me play sudo P.S. I have the song on my hard drive, too, if anyone wants it.
