    Irish joke

Mr P-Mosh, Are you referring to the clown joke I posted some time back? sudo
  3. George, Re:"Rabbit's feet...the boogeyman in the closet we can usually grow out of, but the superstition of religion hangs on with a terrible tenacity..." Yeah, but those who choose to carry squirrels' feet instead of rabbits' feet don't usually kill you over it. In today's world, you follow the wrong grand poohbah and BAM! You're a target! Heck, even if you DO follow the same leader of the pack, by golly you better not join another denomination. The Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other over in Pakistan even as I type. I think the Catholics and Protestants in Ireland are cooling their heels at the moment so THAT'S good news. At least the Christians are above that sort of thing now-a-days. Sure, we boiled 'em oil or fried 'em at the stake for heresy a few centuries ago here in this very land... but today, we just pester folks with Sunday liquor laws and the like. If that pesky Supreme Court would have just kept their nose out of where it didn't belong, we'd still be beseeching the Christian Almighty in public schools. And reading Bible verses during home room. It's fine for people to believe whatever myths they want but unfortunately they want to make everybody ELSE believe them too! sudo
  4. Shell, Makes you look like an ice princess. sudo
  5. Oak, Did you say "cheery"?? I might be singing this little ditty on you at the crack of dawn.. Click HERE! sudo
  6. Bramble, Re:"During our church time I began to explore other belief systems out of curiosity, and goddess spirituality/Wiccan beliefs were electrifying to me." This Wiccan religion seems to be catching on. We have several adherents here and they seem to be as happy as frogs on lilly pads. But I have one big question for you guys.. Just WHY are you guys so loathe to dismiss all the supernatural stuff to myth and/or superstition? It looks more and more to me that people just have to have their religions to feel like they have purpose in life. Doesn't really matter if they are Muslim, Hindu or Christian. The fact that they BELIEVE (oh Gawd, how the suicide bombers believe) makes them alright. It's atheists that get the brunt of criticism, you know. Take on faith SOMETHING for Heaven's sake!! Otherwise you'll be branded a heathen or infidel and ripe for the vat of boiling oil. :(--> sudo
  7. Oak, Re:"I'd be honored to room with you again if you'll have me." That'll work. I thought my waking up both cheery and early had really gotten on your nerves, though. I'm almost always up between 4:30 and 5:45 during the week but sleep in to as late as 6:30 on weekends. Maybe if Hawk brings enough pear juice this year, I'll be induced to slumber to 7:00. :D--> sudo
  8. Zix, That's great news. Folks who have never experienced being out of work will never understand. My dad was unemployed for nearly a year back when we were still kids so I know. Re:"Well, God has blessed us again...Thanks to all who were praying for our situation." Just curious about this prayer thingee, Zix. Is it possible God wouldn't have gotten Zixette the job had the prayers not been there? Like, No Prayer.. No Job?? If He would have given the job to the Zixette anyways because he just loves the Zixette so much.... then why pray for it?? sudo P.S. Good to see your font on the Nostalgia thread, guy!! :)-->
  9. I've got my room reserved. Got another queen sized bed in the room if someone needs it, too. Now, I've got to make the stew a few times before then to make sure I haven't lost my touch. I was thinking about a lamb stew as well. Anyone interested??? sudo
  10. Why Engine Rob!! Good to see your font again. You and I were among the first at the old WayDale, I remember. Hope things are going well. sudo
  11. Dmiller, Here's something I got just for you. Click HERE! Gives you lots of time to get it right. Oh.. and Rascal.. I can bring two big pots of stew this year instead of just the one but that's the limit. I've got just the two pots. But one pot almost did it last year so I'm thinking even with more folks, two should be enough don't you think?? Aw heck.. we'll get a better head count the closer we get. If it's not enough, we'll just Hawk the drinks so nobody'll care! sudo
  12. Mikey, Rascal would probably prefer that you just keep your staff to yourself but hey... what can I say?? Verbal, I'd like nothing better than to get most of us in that lodge, too. We'll wait to get Rascal's report but I sure hope most of us opt for a lot of togetherness. Can you say "group hug"?? It's for just a weekend heavens to Betsy and who wanted to sleep anyways?? Oh.. I forgot about Mikey. ;)--> Rascal, You may want to start a brand new thread sometime soon entitled.. Third Annual Southern Comfort Reunion And Weenie. I would do it myself but don't want to seem presumptious and usurp the power of the BD donchaknow. Also, we need to see if we have enough folks to sign up for one of the lodges. Yeah yeah, I know October is a long ways away but it would be nice if we KNEW we had it all arranged. Would make Digi feel better. sudo
  13. Digi, Re:"I am coming down from Alaska to meet everyone this year. Husband wants to make sure I know what I am dealing with in the lodging category..." Did you click on the links in my post (two up I believe) and take a look at the cabins? If you wanted to make sure you had lodging, you can make reservations on line (it's all in the links I provided) but there's no rush, dear. It's not until October. Let's wait a bit and get a consensus as to what folks would like to do. Last year it worked out just fine in that a few of us rented cabins by calling the reservation phone number. We posted that we had space for extra people and things went smoothly. You can go back to the beginning of this thread and see how it was done. This place has huge lodges, though. We could get everybody in one place. Of course, that might not be everybody's cup of tea, so they might want to rent an individual cabin. In any event, I'd hold on a bit unless you want the peace of mind of knowing right now you for sure have a reservation and a place to stay. sudo (hoping a lot of folks want to stay in the lodge)
  14. Rascal, I was also going to tell you that you were the logical choice to head this thing up because you had natural leadership ability... but decided against it. :D--> sudo
  15. Goey, Old news. He comes here quite a bit and there was a thread about it some months back. He probably just likes our witty repartee and is eager to join our ranks, you think? sudo
  16. Rascal, You have more or less volunteered to head this thing up, you know. This thing will go ever so much smoother with a co-ordinator and you are the natural choice. You get along with EVERYBODY, have been to this thing before and as you said yourself... you're the closest. While you are over there looking things over let us know what you think. Folks can take a look at the Falls Creek web site by clicking HERE!. This place has cabins like last year but they also have group lodges, Rascal. You can tell us what your impressions are after you go look but I'm intrigued. They have a lodge that sleeps 100 people! 46 bunks upstairs for the ladies and 44 downstairs for the men. Now THAT would be a fun time, eh? Click HERE! for lodge info and if you have Adobe Reader, click HERE! for how much cabins and lodges rent for. All very reasonable, IMO. Also, since we're doing this in October, there will be firewood provided for us, it sez. So Rascal... would you like me to bring my Better Than Sex stew again this year to start everybody off?? You 'da boss lady!! sudo
  17. dmiller, Re:"How many folks are actually coming to this? How many were there last year?" Just go back to page 12 of this thread and start reading and looking at the pics. We had a great time last year and its looking like this year will have even more people. Hope to see you there! sudo
  18. Linda, Beauty is truely in the eyes of the beholder. You love that dog and see it as just gorgeous. To me... looks like any other dog. Except... those eyes. Something about those eyes... I know! They look POSSESSED!!! You got you the demon dog from Hell!! Look out Linda!! IT's a comin' for you when you're sleeping!! AHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sudo
  19. Zix, Which begs the question, why are they just now doing this? I don't understand where the internet is located and who pays for access. At first, the internet was all telephone line connected somehow. Then you could connect to it by fiber optic. Is the reason DSL speeds are different (some DSL providers offer subscribers different speeds for different prices on the SAME network) because of monies paid by the ISP's to another ISP? So does Bellsouth pay some entity monies based on bandwidth? In addition to physical limitations on DSL (condition and lenght of telephone lines to central office) I've been told that DSL providers seldom provide maximum speeds available. They evidently can turn up speeds with little more than adjusting settings on their end. So why don't they turn them up all the way? Does it cost them more to do that? I just don't know. sudo
  20. Zix, I may go that route myself. What I mean is that Time Warner runs both the cable TV and Road Runner here and they charge way too much. And you can't get just Road Runner and not their TV cable service either. No sir. If you don't want cable, you have to pay the minimum anyways if you want Road Runner. And the cost of their cable is now sky high. So what I'm thinking of doing is getting rid of the whole thing and going satellite TV (DirecTV) and BellSouth DSL. The internet speed isn't quite as good as Road Runner but plenty faster than dial-up. I've talked to people who have done this and they say the picture is better on satellite TV, too. Plus the cable goes out quite a bit. Bottom line is that I would save nearly $50 a month and have nearly as good internet connection and a better TV system. sudo
  21. Hope, I don't doubt that the language was bad but I was wondering about SPECIFIC words. Fer instance the 'c' word and the 'f' word. I know for dang sure they didn't use the 'm-f' word as that is a 20th century invention, I've read. And what about the 'f' word's use as an adjective? As in "that effing idiot"? It just doesn't seem authentic to my ears. I would have expected a lot more use of g-ddamn type language but you'll note that they haven't used that term once, have they? Is that realistic? I can't say for sure, of course, but it appears that the writers used today's profanity and then justified it by saying they researched it. sudo
  22. Hope, I think I read where Carradine says he's in only the first four episodes. OK, the acting is good, the storylines are average but that language!!! I find it hard to believe they cursed with the same words in use today. I wonder how you would do research into the type of profanity actually used?? sudo
  23. Galen, I've never kept bees but I used to help my dad who did. Got stung a few times. No big deal. In fact, some folks say its actually healthy for you. Protects against allergies supposedly. Anywho... he kept just a few hives but something got 'em about 5 years back. I forget what he said it was. Could've been mites like Steve! mentioned but I'm thinking he said it was some sort of bacterial infection. Whatever. He never got delicious honey from those hives anyways. Must have been all the dang locust trees around the place. sudo
  24. Apple, Thank you. Wasway had suggested Total Recorder as well. Of course, there would be a little degradation that way. Digital to analog to digital. I bet a Microsoft engineer might know how to do it. I know a Microsoft employee who's in sales. He says there's nearly always a workaround. sudo
  25. Apple, Re:"What are you trying to do with the file once you have it?" I might be wanting to send it to someone as an e-mail attachment. I might want to convert it to another format. OK.. you can play the song. That's no problem. The problem is saving it as a file that you can do something with. An MP3, a WAV, a WMA etc.. If you're new here at the Greasespot, you might not know about the nostalgia thread in the Greasespot Gallery and Reading Room forum. we post a lot of songs there. Come check us out if you're interested. sudo
