Hey Shell, Why naw, I didn't write it... I'm not that original. I just got it in e-mail and thought it was pretty good. So yes.. You hereby have permission.... :D--> sudo

Hiway29, Re:"Whatever happened to 'novelty songs' ?" Uh-oh.. now you've gone and done it. You do know we've gots lots of those things don't you?? Hee-hee! sudo
-
This next one may be going back too far for a lot of folks. 1958. I was six years old but remember it well as it was number #1 on the charts for 6 weeks. My dad used to sing it and my little sister would get all scared. Man, how times have changed. Look at this pic and try to think what song's gonna' play when you click on it. :)--> sudo

Wasway, Why, yeah, I noticed that Hammond organ. Sounds just like Whiter Shade of Pale!! I want your MP3 version, dude!!! Hiway29.. here's a little treat just for you. Uh, you do have broadband, don't 'ya?? Click HERE! The Hollies were pretty typical and though I don't want to sound like some old geezer talking about how things were better in MY day.. just listen to the lyrics. I hear what my kids listen to and some of the stuff is just filthy! sudo P.S. As an aside.. anyone familiar with the play Purlie? Or Purlie Victorious?? Probably not. It was a musical back in the early 70's and one of my favorites was a tune called Walk Him Up. Seems some old scandalous geezer had died and at his funeral they sang for the Lord to take him into Heaven. With all the news about the Pope's demise, I couldn't help thinking about the song.. click HERE!

Mr. Hammaroni, As you noted, they are very good compassionate people. Unfortunately, they don't claim to know all the answers so they get picked on as being wishy-washy. Lots of folks are more comfortable in churches that know for certain who's going to Heaven and who's not. :P--> sudo

Kathy, Those were New York programs it appears. Nostalgia even happened there!! Dancing Bear was featured after I had left. Painted wings and giants' rings had made way for other toys :(--> . About the time of Dancing Bear, I was listening to the English invasion and here's a snippet of a song that was so very popular at the time but so very different from today. Other worlds and other values. What's foremost in today's popular songs about love?? Is it getting married?? I don't think so.. and our culture suffers Here's what appealled to young people back in the middle 60's. Romance. It's in all the songs. Click HERE! and see my point. Anyone even remember this group and very popular song???? I have the whole thing in a good MP3 format if anybody's interested. sudo

Rick, oooh.. You're right and I bet you're feeling slighted, too. I didn't know yours but googled the lyrics and got a hit. I've never watched the show but I guess it can qualify for nostalgia. Happy Days was set a couple of decades before it was actually made after all. sudo (who liked Manfred The Wonder Dog)

Hiway29, Re:"Thats all I remember tho-not a great show." I'll agree with you. I remember it from back in the 50's as I don't think it was on locally much after that. Here's one from the same era that was a much better show, don't you think?? Click HERE! sudo P.S. Kathy.. that's all news to me.

Steve! Re"Hmmm, I think perhaps that's an altered image, maybe?" Well..... maybe :D--> sudo
-
Belle, You really think so?? Her real lips?? Hmmm... sudo
-
Man, that was quick! Here, I was trying to throw all you guys off the track with the doobie reference but to no avail, I see. I might have gotten Rick and Steve! at first but I dunno.... The 'Do Bee' Hardly any video exists, I understand, from Romper Room's early days. I remember it well as grainy black and white footage. Even as a youngster I was aware that the show had low production values compared to other offerings. Anyone have any memorable experiences?? sudo
-
Raf, I would really... really like access to the kinds of news sources you have at the tips of your fingers.. but seems one must be a paid subscriber first. Even getting the latest AP can be a challenge. And FYI, just before I posted on the now deleted thread, Fox on-line had not yet reported El Papa's demise. sudo
-
I'm late!! I'm late!! Been gone down the rabbit hole. One pill makes you larger.. and one pill makes you small. And the ones that mother gives you Don't do anything at all.. Gots an oldie here. Anyone heard of the Doobie Brothers?? Know what a doobie is ?? Here's a tune to same.. old song. Nice doobie.. Click HERE and name tune.. show... whatever. Does it sound familiar?? sudo
-
Raf, I still would like to know what news sources you consider late-breaking and authoritative. sudo
-
Tom, No, I haven't seen American Heart but I've watched plenty of Mr. Bill. We've never featured him here but since he first aired nearly 30 years ago, I think he qualifies as nostalgia don't you?? It was maybe funnier then than now because of those pretty bad kids programs on local TV (particularly the 50's and early 60's) it was spoofing. Hmmmm... methinks we need a few of those on this thread. sudo
-
Shellon, You should know better than to do that to me.. I'm older than you remember?? My memory isn't what it once was. Either that or it's always been pretty bad.. Uh.... what song again??? :o--> sudo
-
Danny, I'm here to help you, dude.. Yes, there was more than one version and just lookie here whats I gots for you.. two versions. All you have to do is click HERE! and HERE! Now.. what else you want???? --> sudo
-
Geeze Danny... just stick it in a search engine.. ain't hard... Artist: Fredda Payne Lyrics Song: Band of Gold Lyrics Now that you've gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left are the dreams I hold Band of gold And the memories of what love could be If you were still here with me You took me from the shelter of my mother I have never known or loved another We kissed after taking vows That night on our honeymoon We stayed in separate rooms I wait in the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness filled with gloom Hoping soon That you'll walk back through that door And love me like you tried before Now that you've gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left are the dreams I hold Band of gold And memories of what love could be If you were still here with me Don't you know that I wait In the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness filled with gloom Hoping soon Thta you'lol walk back through that door And love me like you tried before Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left are the dreams I hold Band of gold And the memories of what love could be If you were still here with me I wait in the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness filled with gloom Hoping soon That you'll walk back through that door And love me like you tried before sudo

Zix, Good to see your font again. I didn't know you were having problems. A dissolving marriage must be one of the worst things to go through... right up there with death of close family. Maybe worse in some cases. I'm hoping you handle it well. Good luck. sudo

Wasway, Hey!! Click on MY pic!!!!!!!!!! http://home.midsouth.rr.com/dbdbdb/olivers.wmv'>-->

Hiway29, You're right... a sad day indeed. Of all the work he did, the most creative, original, imaginative, and hence most risky work he ever did was Green Acres, IMO. What a life he had.. lived to be 93. ---Click on the pic below--- sudo

Steve!, Here's something to help get it out of your head... You know that movie theme I posted? And you responded about letting people go?? Made me think of tune I had on my hard drive. I hope you have a broadband connection because if you do.. and like gospel music.. click HERE! and rock a little. It's a little long but it takes a while before it heats up. sudo

Ex, Re:"I never knew you left" You can checkout anytime you like but you can never leave. ;)--> sudo

Wasway, I can fulfill part of that request.. I saw this movie from the back seat at a drive-in. But.. I was in the back seat with my brother and sister. My parents were in the front seat. Click HERE! Kathy.. that's a great site for movie pics. I looked around a bit and they have a lot of movies. Don't know the scene, though. Heck.. didn't even see the movie. Did you like it? It got mixed reviews. sudo (who usually waits for the video)
