Tell you guys something else about Eddie Albert I remembered.. he was the warden in the first The Longest Yard movie. My son and some friends went and saw the re-make last weekend and I was thinking that the original warden was a pretty mean character but I couldn't remember who played him. Lo and behold I realized it was Eddie Albert.. I think its time for a new clip, 'ya think? This is from a game show that was a big hit 20 years ago. In fact, it was the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire of its time. Isn't it funny how these shows come and go?? There a few short years back Millionaire was all the rage and then just as suddenly... it was gone. Overexposure, you know. Click HERE! and take a shot. I have a sister-in-law that was wild about this show and wanted a bunch of us to go try out to try to get on it. sudo

Getting back to Eddie Albert.. I was talking with my mom yesterday at the family gathering for Memorial day. While most of us remember him in Green Acres, she remembers him in the Brother Rat movies that featured Ronald Reagan, too. They also featured Reagan's first wife, Jane Wyman who is in her 90's now but still with us. How I would love to talk to some of the stars of that generation before they are all gone. I don't think I ever saw a Brother Rat movie but I know this.. they would be a historical record of how we and this country viewed things back then. sudo

Kathy, Yeah but.. he wasn't the voice you and I know as Fred Flintstone. It was close but... it wasn't the same. :(--> sudo
-
Pirate, Thanks for the 'heads up' as I was able to catch two episodes last night. And guys... Rick is right... the tune I posted was the theme to The Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams. Seems to me it was around that time that Hamm's beer came out with that bear commercial, too. Anyone remember that one?? sudo

Hiway29, Re:"So Deputy Dawg has ground the board to a halt. He never did get any respect." I didn't mean by saying that since he was (relatively) little known that he didn't deserve respect. Even Don Corleone got respect. Look! He was able to ground the board to halt wasn't he?? Actually, I was kinda' waiting for Trefor to get back to us but it looks like he was a one post wonder. I shoulda' known he'd be a love you and leave you kind !!!! Hee-hee! But yes I DO happen to have a theme song you guys might remember. It's an animal theme like Deputy Dawg. Click HERE! and listen to it. Does that not sound like a 60's folk song? I thought so but this was made in the 70's. I liked the show but I think it ran only two seasons. sudo
-
Trefor, Yeah.. Good to see your font around here!! I've gots a question for you. How much American TV is shown over there in the UK? I've heard that popular shows like Baywatch or Dallas were broadcast there. Are they shown in prime time on major channels?? What about our less popular shows? When I was taking the advanced PFAL class in Scotland in '81, people were shocked to hear my Southern accent. One person told me I sounded like Deputy Dawg and I was flabbergasted. Not that he thought I sounded like the cartoon character but that he was familiar with a little known (in America anyways) cartoon. sudo P.S. Here's the intro that I found. Click HERE! Believe me.. I don't sound like him but I understand that to a Brit.. we all must kinda' sound alike :D-->.

Hiway29, Re:"Frank made an otherwise awful episode of Star Trek memorable by playing an alien who's face is literally half black and half white" Hey! I remember that episode but didn't realize it was Frank Gorshin. It was one of those episodes where they tried to teach a lesson. And the lesson was racism. Seems on this planet all people were half white faced and half black faced but... they differed on which side was which. Ya'll might not know but Frank was here in Memphis last month doing his George Burns one man show and got good reviews. Nobody knew he was that sick. Funny how these performers just can't seem to stop sometimes. He knew he had terminal cancer and yet spent the last days of his life performing on a stage. sudo

Ah! I posted a hit it seems. Leo Carrol was Jacob Marley's ghost in one of the A Christmas Carol movies they made but I don't know the year. 1938?? sudo

You guys knew this one (HERE!) alright but perhaps that's because I give such good narratives?? --> Hee-hee! Hey Kathy... liked the height clue. Yes, I can still close my eyes and see Sue Howard's brown eyes as we were lip to lip. I thought it was Heaven. BTW.. I ran into Sue about 10 years ago. She's done well.. got married, raised a passel of mealy-mouthed brats (wondering if anybody recognizes the line) and generally was doing OK, I'd say. I would have loved to have asked her if she remembered The Wild Wild West on Friday nights. Probably not. And all this got me to thinking about another show that was on that year. One that my sister and her friends watched because they thought the co-star was so cute. That's what's important to pre-pubescent girls, you know.. the guys have to be "cute". Like Davy Jones of The Monkees or Paul McCartney kind of cute. Not Antonio Banderas kind of cute. Which is really humerous because this wasn't a little girls' kind of show. But click on the "cute" guy pic below that they had a crush on and see if ya'll remember this one. Oh, I know Wasway will remember it as I do think he's posted it before. sudo

Kathy, You and Pawnbroker are making me cry. sudo

Hey guys!! Been a good weekend for me and judging by the activity here its been pretty good for everybody else, too. I've got a new one to post but first a few things to clear up... Hiway29, You're taking me WAY too seriously. This thread is all about fun, remembering the good times, getting to know our fellow posters a lot better and all that. You know that "movie" I posted and asked everyone to name the actors?? The one of me and my new puppy? Yeah, you found out it wasn't a real movie at all. You thought it must have been one of those 'Best Of Show' thingees. That's because you probably thought I was crazy or something. Then you realized I was pulling everyone's leg but since you're the new guy you didn't know what I really looked like. Well, Kathy's pic of the hinge is another example. I said I saw 'angel wings' so the song had to be Johnny Angel but then I posted an out-of-the-blue-not-in-any-way-related music clip. What I was doing, Hiway29, was winking at Kathy and letting her know I knew what she had in mind all along... and it wasn't Johnny Angel ;)-->. Now go back and listen to my clip again and think of the name of the band that did it :D-->. Funny. We must be about the same age (I'm 52) because when I think of that song, I think drugs and rock and roll, too. Pawnbroker.. I THOUGHT I had that movie. I'm an old movie buff though not nearly as knowedgable as you, I'm sure. Stick around and we'll find your real niché. If you'e a classic TV buff you might know the one I'm about to post. 1Kscreennames... I'm glad you've figured it out so now take a guess at some. I'm now expecting to see more of your font around here, you know Now for the new TV theme. Oh, I think it may have been posted here before but it's one of my favorites. Not that I was crazy about the show but its pure nostalgia for me. It came on Friday nights during the 1966-1967 season. I remember it so well because that's when I went over to Sue Howard's house to obstensibly watch TV. But we watched very little TV because we were smooching on the couch . We were in the 9th grade. I remember thinking that I would never ever forget that moment in time when we first kissed. It was my first real kiss. Click HERE! and have at it. sudo

"Food for Thought" - Original Sin
Sudo replied to Biblefan Dave's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Pawnbroker, I'm tickled to see you really taking part here at the Greasespot. You can add a lot though you are NBW. Uh, that's Never-Been-Way :D-->. I gotta' warn you though.. you hang out here in the Doctrinal forums and you'll have people trying to save your soul!! sudo -
Kathy, Thank you! I thought you might like that selection from Purlie (HERE!). Do you have good speakers on your computer? These good songs I'm not converting, but if your speakers aren't so hot.. it doesn't make a lot of difference, really. I bought a $100 Creative Labs speaker system on-line that's great. Has a really good sub-woofer that BOOMS!~~ That picture you posted didn't have me scratching my head for long as we're usually on the same wavelenght. Yes, it's a hinge but it looks like wings, too. Angel wings. You had to have been thinking of Shelley Fabares' big hit of 1962, Johnny Angel. I remember the teenage girls playing that one over and over on the juke box at Rainbow skating rink on Lamar. Before you go getting all disappointed, click HERE! and listen to a little snippet I have just for you. I, of course, have the entire MP3. sudo (wondering if we'll see Rick this weekend)

Interpretation of Rom. 7...literal or allegorical?
Sudo replied to TheEvan's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
Or.... As Yogi Beara allegedly said when giving directions.. "When you come to the fork in the road, take it" sudo -
Pirate, And you would be right! Click HERE! to listen to the song while following the lyrics below: Alma Mater (Cornell) FAR ABOVE CAYUGA'S WATERS Far above Cayuga's waters With it's waves of blue Stands our noble alma mater Glorious to view Lift the chorus, speed it onward Loud her praises tell Hail to thee, our alma Mater Hail, all hail, Cornell Far above the busy humming Of the bustling town Reared against the arch of heaven Looks she proudly down. ************************** Hi Pawnbroker!! With that little kind of post, it looks like you'll fit right in here! Welcome, guy! Yeah.. I think I know the movie, too. What it took me a while to figure out when I watched it was whether the lady was going mad or the husband was responsible. Am I right??? sudo P.S. Kathy.. we seem to have similar tastes so here's one I like a lot. Its from the black musical Purlie. An old ne'er-do-well has died and the congregation is trying to pray him (or Walk Him Up) to Heaven. It doesn't really start rocking until a minute and a half into it, though... click HERE!

Geo, Thank you muchly. Yes.. we indeed got ourselves a brand new puppy dog 'Laddie' nearly three weeks ago now and are in love with him. He's a Scottie. A Scottish Terrier, and he's taken to us as well. Most Scotties are black (like FDR's Fala) but our Laddie is a Wheaten Scottie. This was the original Scottie, white to blond on the top, but are rarer today. Laddie will grow to only about 16lbs as he was the runt of the litter and we didn't want a large dog. A lady who works for me raises Scotties and told us about her puppies. We went over to her house to take a look and the whole family fell in love with this particular puppy... Laddie. Hiway29.. you just haven't been hanging around the Nostalgia thread long enough to know when I'm pulling a fast one. You also had never seen pics of me and my family so don't feel dumb, man. I was just being cute. OK.. the name of the movie IS..... Laddie Come Home. Ka-ching!! Guess I need to post another theme, huh? Nobody's getting the college theme one (HERE!) though I have another hint... the college sits far above one of the finger lakes.. Cayuga lake. Boy.. that band REALLY sucks though, doesn't it?? sudo
-
Is it nostalgia?? I think so because in all the movies and TV shows... this was the ubiquitous theme for a college, was it not? Here's the college's OWN band playing the theme. It's a great alma mater. Arguably one of the best in the nation. It's a great college with a superior reputation for academics. Engineering.. physics... probably lots of other stuff too but... I don't think they're reknown for their music dept. Folks, I went through college on a band scholarship so I knows a little about college bands and can tell you.. this one's pretty bad. My neice and nephew's high school band in Olive Branch, Ms. sounds better. Really. Be that as it may.. click HERE! and name the Ivy League university. sudo (If they could just remove the clarinets)
-
..Looks like I'm going to have to give some clues. Though the actors may look familiar (William H. Macy?? I was thinking.. Brad Pitt) I'm going to try and help out here. See.. in any movie there are scenes that wind up on the cutting room floor. So yeah, although I posted the ENTIRE movie (click HERE!) I'll post some stills from the deleted scenes.. .. and of course.. the real stars of the show.. sudo
-
Kathy, Sure that was a clue ;)-->. Rex Harrison was a FINE man, uh, as far as I know anyways. Here's something a little different. I'm posting the entire movie!! I'm such a sucker for dog movies as I've said and this one has the cutest little puppy dog in it. Even for those with broadband, this will take about 60sec to load so be patient. But click here and name one of the actors. Oh, such an adorable puppy!!! sudo (who had a great Mother's day)

Kathy, Re:"I'm stumped! I know Rick's I think." Then that means you have to take a guess. Simon says. Rules are rules. :D-->. I forgot that only one other person had guessed Rick's. I think the guy who went nuts in that movie acted kinda' strangely as well as a TV detective. Hiway29.. I KNOW you've seen the movie I keep harping on and giving hints for. I've got something a little different 'fer 'ya... A karaoke version of the theme song!! When I play it I can sing the heck outa' the song but if I didn't know what song it was, I'm not sure I would be able to tell.. just from the music. So.. click on the pic and see if it helps.. sudo
-
Pirate knows.. Sharon.. tell Jeff he's welcome to hang out. Reikilady was never in TWI either but that doesn't stop her from getting to know everyone. She and Oakspear are getting married, you know?? Kathy.. have a good one. EVERY weekend can't be hopping around here like last weekend was. 1kScreennames.. check out the thread I started for you in the computer help section.. we'll get this problem solved one way or another. sudo
-
Kathy, Re:"Sudo, I don't know the first one but the second is WONDERFUL. What a song, thank you very much!" Didn't I tell 'ya?? That song ROCKS! Especially if you have good speakers and really let it wail. We have the same tastes in music, it appears. At least with THIS song. Click HERE! I'm going to have to give some clues on the movie. It won 8 Academy awards in 1973, I think it was, and was set in Germany in the early 30's. Click HERE! What a sweet melody. It could be a lullabye. I have the good MP3 of it, too. ;)--> sudo
-
Sharon, I saw The Pawnbroker. Very good movie. Rod Steiger was the consumate character actor even if he DID appear in some really bad films. Did you see his performance in The Chosen? Gawd.. I didn't know it was him until the credits rolled! I was thinking that they had cast an actual orthodox Jew to play his role! I was truely impressed. I see from your posts that today is וֹם הַשּׁוֹאָה.... Yom Hashoah. I have a tune from a film you might be familiar with then as it concerns Nazis and WWII. This is a beautiful song is it not?? It might sink in what its about when you get to the words "fatherland". Good movie, too. Click HERE! And since the subject is Jews... here's one that rocks. Sorry.. didn't convert it for all you with dial-up because it just ROCKS in the original MP3!! Click HERE! I'm so glad I went and got myself some really good speakers for the computer! sudo
-
Jonny, Re:"Have you ever seen "A Walk In The Clouds" with Keanu Reeves? One of my all time favorites, and if you have not, then, you must!" I agree completely! That's a really nice feel-good movie and one I can watch over and over. I think I've seen it three times now. You know.. I tell people about this movie and how they need to go rent it but you know what?? Nobody ever does!! Now I've got YOU for backup on this. Anthony Quinn was in this and he was such a professional at his craft.. Good to see you "down here" on the Nostalgia thread, Jonny. You got any preferences on TV shows and/or movies?? 60's? 70's?? sudo
