Belle, Good pick up and thanks for posting it here. I found that when I clicked on the article's author (Matt Winklejohn) that I was given the option of e-mailing him. I thought about it a bit and then decided to go on and e-mail him because he probably didn't KNOW that TWI was a cult. I can't understand why a reporter of all people wouldn't check out a group he's reporting on. I told him to just Google The Way International and for a really good site... just go to www.greasespotcafe.com. I bet if he got lots of e-mails he'd REALLY look into the matter. sudo
-
Belle, I doubt that the article would have reported about TWI in such glowing terms if the author knew it was a well known cult. Looks like the young man was able to sucker some other footballers to take "the class". What? Don't football players have computers and know how to Google "The Way International"? I mean, these were Georgia Tech players. Its not like they went to Mississippi State or something. sudo

Mark, Re:"You really can't compare the Old Testament with this Flat Earth Society." Oh but I just did and I think its a pretty good comparison. You really think Noah floated on a boat a few thousand years ago and landed on some mountain in the middle East with every animal in the world? Are you serious? How did the animals then get dispersed to all the continents? Did the kangaroos just swim to Australia? Be serious Mark... its nonsense. If I'm offending your religious sensibilities I'm sorry (this isn't the Doctrinal forum) but you see my point.. Flat Earth Society? Its just another religion. sudo P.S. Cynic.. my whole point with the Atkins diet is proving what works scientifically. And more and more that is pointing to low carbs, IMO. However.. I accept WHOLEHEARTEDLY what is proven empirically. Naw.. I ain't accepting nothing "on faith" If the evidence says eat more possum then its gonna' be on my menu!!

Its easier to understand if you think about it as being these peoples' religion. Religious folks (even intelligent ones) will accept all kinds of absurdities (just look at the stories in the Old Testament) and rationalize them to their satisfaction. Right now we even have people posting on this forum that think the earth and all life here is only 6000 years old or some such and that it was all done in 6 days. There's no use arguing with these people I've found. sudo

Man does THAT sound like some fun. I can't be there but I can participate vicariously can't I? I've never been to a clam bake but I always thought they were done on the shore when it was chilly, say 40-50 degrees, and everyone had to wear a heavy sweater or jacket. Eating lobster and clams etc. while cuddled up trying to keep warm around the fire on the beach. sudo

I gotta' tell you.. I think someone's heartless if this didn't make 'em cry the first time or two they heard it. The Christmas Shoes. sudo

Chaz, Good song but doesn't come close to making me cry. Rottie... yeah.. it was Blind Man In The Bleachers. Just makes me bawl. sudo
-
You guys want a song that makes you cry?? Well here's one that I guarantee will bring the tears. And I'm not talking just chick flick kind of tears. Guys will cry too but they just won't admit it! sudo
-
OC, Those are pretty cool! I like the song in the first one, too. sudo

Rocky, You've done everything right. But you still had a heart attack. Tim Russert spooked everybody because he was doing everything right too. I would suggest you look at what Rejoice posted here and on the weight loss thread. Carbs are killers if you aren't an Olympic champion needing them for endurance and happen to be a high Insulin secreter, IMO. We'd like to keep you around here for a bit longer Rocky. I REALLY suggest your taking another look at your eating all that pasta and carbs. I know I know.. you can get get lots of experts backing both sides but consider this... you were doing what you were supposed to be doing and it didn't work. Why not give a little consideration to what all beens posted on the weight loss thread? Or not... just a suggestion. sudo

coupcake, How's it going so far? Let us know.. kinda' like the "Quitters" thread. sudo

Hiway29, I ain't giving you any flowers, dude but.. I would like to wish you a happy birthday!! sudo

Hmmm.. just me I see. No use posting any of the three B's??? This is one thing I miss about hanging out with my music buddies from Ole Miss. We all loved the classics *AND* the popular tunes with musicality (is that a word??). I don't post on this thread much but I'll give it one more try just hoping I find a kindred spirit.... This is one I uploaded to Youtube myself. sudo

Geo, You don't like C&W, eh? As I said its all a matter of taste but I much prefer "outlaws" like Waylon, Willie or even Johnny Cash to ANY kind of fusion jazz. But.. that's just me. Here's another enjoyable classic from a rock group who knew how to play in something other than the 3 chord standard and yes.. I know its also in minor key like "Those were the Days" that I posted and most computer speakers don't do justice to the song.. especially at the 2:10 mark here where the bass takes over. Maybe I just prefer minor key at this point in my life. sudo

DWBH, No one criticizes music choices here so I reckon I won't be the first. But man.. being classically trained (I went through college on a music scholarship) its hard for me to keep my mouth shut about how terrible I think most of our music is today. Gawd, I scroll though this thread and lament about how awful the music is. I'm posting a selection however that i think is pretty good. Know who wrote it? It might surprise you! Its all a matter of taste is it not? sudo

Hiway29, Maybe you are but you look like you don't worry about it much. sudo

WW, Hee-hee! Why you're quite witty at 3 O'clock in the morning! What? Can't sleep? Work late? Up early? sudo

Chaz, Belle's link is about how I was going to answer you but don't overlook what Tom posted. The whole reason I started this thread was about how the low-carb diet gets so little respect even in the face of overwhelming evidence that its the healthiest way to eat. Having problems with a gut, cholesterol levels and maybe even fasting glucose levels? You cut out the carbs!! Presto the problems are gone! Try doing that with a low fat diet and you'll fail miserably 90% of the time. You want to drink some alcohol? Low carb works with that as well. My own experience with the alcohol though was that I had to cut it out altogether while I was losing my weight. I had a bad 6-pack of beer a night habit and even though I switched to Michelob Ultra beer, I didn't really start losing the weight until I went alcohol free AND started doing 30 minutes of fast walking each morning. Then the pounds just melted off like magic. Later I could add some alcohol without gaining my weight back. I guess it depends on how fast you want the weight to come off in the first place. Increasingly now its being being recognized by more and more experts that its the high carbohydrate diets that are the scourge and whats been giving us heart problems, type II diabetes and strokes all along. sudo

Linda, I know you MEAN well. .. but I don't know *how* to waste this here erection with just sheep around. Think maybe you could help me out here in some way?? sudo

Sunesis, If that man was an angel, he lied to you I noticed. sudo

Yeah, It was Cheech and Chong alright. Looks like we have us a few former stoners here on the Greasespot, eh? But Firesign Theater was great as well. Too much of it went over my head back then, though... eg, The far flung isles of Langerhans!! sudo

Hap, The officer looks like another rogue cop to me. We're catching more of these guys now-a-days with all the cell phones out there taking video. Also, I'm usually surprised at what some cops do when they know that their own cameras in their squad cars are running. sudo

Hey everybody, Its ActII not ActsII but I'm sure she'll understand. Happy Birthday girl!!!!!!!! sudo
