  1. Hiway29, You're great, man. A veritable fount and all that so keep up informing us. So Leonardo wasn't in the original Rocky and Bullwinkle, eh? Well, I'll tell you something else in addition to the ones George mentioned that WAS in the originals... and here's the theme.. Click HERE! So for all you folks who don't see yourselves as really good at this.. I bet ya'll might know this one! sudo
  2. George, I had forgotten! But yes...little Tooter... and "time for this one to come home". I remember it now that you've mentioned it. I spent *SO* much time in front of the TV. The thing about Odio Cologne was that I didn't know he was doing a Ronald Colman because... as a little kid, I had no idea who Ronald Colman was. Even after becoming familiar with his movies, I didn't put the two together until... you guessed it.. I was watching some Rocky and Bullwinkle (yeah, that was where Leonardo Lion was featured) as an adult. Well, sure.. there was Edward G as Biggie and Ronald Colman as Odio. But the whole Rocky and Bullwinkle thing was such a hoot. I remember it as being a bit odd as a child and with good reason... most of the gags were going over my head. But as a grownup I would howl at some of the gags and double entendres. I loved the whole cold war stuff with Boris and Natasha and Fearless Leader. Hee-hee! I can't even type Fearless Leader now without laughing. My staff is probably wondering what I'm doing here in my office right now :D-->. sudo P.S. Don't get your hopes up Highway29... "biscuits" at a high tea aren't the good kind served with gravy. They are really just tasteless cookies
  3. Hmmmm.. I'd have thought that "Biggie with his pistols" (HERE!) would have been easy but it WAS just a snippet. The actor they are imitating was known for his gangster roles in the 30's and 40's. For sure, you all would recognize his name. In one of the oddest casting decisions for me.. this guy had a pretty good role in Cecil B DeMile's The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston. It just didn't work IMO. sudo
  4. Hiway29, Re:"I can only think you are referring to a certain penguin." Naw.. I wasn't referring to 'ole Tennessee. I was just talking about Leonardo Lion and ensemble. The voices on Leonardo.. (HERE!) and who they are imitations of. I love "Biggie with his pistols" and it should be an easy one for Ala. But I'm still wondering who "itchy with his fleas" was a take off on -->. sudo
  5. Ah! Everyone's got a piece of that clip I posted (HERE!). Ala!! I'm shocked SHOCKED at you. You Googled??? Isn't that cheating? Why I've NEVER done such a thing here!!! ( --> yeah, sure) Hee-hee! See, I posted that clip of Ronald Colman from his 1935 Tale Of Two Cities to see if you recognized Ronald Colman's voice, Ala, since you liked him in Random Harvest. But Tale OF Two Cities was a very good movie, too, IMNSHO. Yeah, Kathy knew the clip.. the movie and hence the BEGINNING line of the book. Geo knew the actor but not the movie and GeorgeSt knew the lines but thought they were proabaly Shakespeare. Mooney knew the book just by the few lines given. Good going everyone.. We're SHARP down here on the Nostalgia thread, huh? :D--> Along those same lines and thinking about Ronald Colman.. I remembered this cartoon series from my pre-teen days nearly 20 years ago . A very VERY good cartoon that I didn't fully appreciate until I was it as an adult. There are several imitations that I know of and probably more that I don't recognize. Like.. who are they trying to imitate with "Scratchy with his fleas"? I don't know but I'm betting Hiway29 does. I really only recognize two fer sure... Odio Cologne and "Biggie with his pistols". How many will you guys get? Anyone remember this cartoon series?? And what OTHER cartoon series it was a part of?? Click HERE! sudo
  6. Sudo

    Need Info!

Thanks Geo... I hope your link is read. sudo
  7. Ala, Oh, sorry.. I didn't know you wanted the name just yet. Random Harvest but I never saw it. Did my clip (HERE!) sound familiar?? That's OK.. I can wait until tonight. ;)--> sudo
  8. Ala, Ah! So you're an old movie fan?? GREAT!! So am I!! Now here's a clip for you from one of my favorite movies.. Click HERE! and tell me if the actor sounds familiar. If you want bonus points... WHAT movie is it from?? I'll give you this much.. Basil Rathbone (remember him from the as Sherlock Holmes?) played a bad guy in it. Actually.. Basil USUALLY played bad guys and he was SO GOOD at them, too! Did you ever see Errol Flynn's Robin Hood?? So many movies.. I'm like you.. I don't remember Agent Smart doing any Ronald Colman imitations either. But then.. back when I was watching Get Smart I had no idea who Ronald Colman was. Hiway29 is a good addition to our thread here as he knows a LOT of this stuff. sudo
  9. George, Sorry.. I'm not much help here because 1)I'm not about to load itunes and 2)I've always set my computers for one person. I've gone over to peoples' houses to try to help them out when this sort of thing was going on between different users of the same computer and never could figure it out. Sorry. BTW... I never posted that clip because we got side tracked. Give it time to load.. just a minute or two really. Click HERE! So... is it how you guys remembered it?? :)--> sudo
  10. Ala, Hmmm.. I seemed to have ticked both you and George off by my remark. My wife tells me I do that sort of thing all the time... go insulting peoples' intelligence or saying dead honest but insensitive things. Its a fault of mine and I apologize. In this case it does matter, though Ala because of what you told me two pages back... that you liked the thread but couldn't play the links. Now George knew the workaround and could hear (or see) the links but what about those who aren't that sharp? THOSE are the folks I was really talking about. If someone really WANTS the QuickTime player to be their default player then that's fine. My real beef is with QuickTime and other software companies like them. You see, when you go to install their programs, they'll try to get you to use THEIR player for EVERYTHING... not just MOV files which is ALL you need their player for. So what do they do? They'll usually give you choices like 1) Typical installation (recommended) or 2) Custom installation (for experts). So what does the average person do when confronted with these two choices? They choose door number one of course and that allows them to reset all your file associations to the QuickTime player (or whatever program you're loading) when it is really not that good a player. I'll tell you another company that does the same dang thing.. RealPlayer. So I get really upset with the companies not the users. Next time you install a program, Ala.. always choose the 'custom' installation even if you don't consider yourself an expert. Most of the time they're lying.. You DON'T have to be an expert to do the custom installation. So.. you're evidently able to hear my clips now, right? How are you doing it? Like George?? You can always go to file types and change the MP3, WAV, MPG, MPEG etc. back to Mplayer2 but that can get difficult if you've never done it before. Geeze... not trying to insult your intelligence again.. really. sudo (an insensitive clod)
  11. Ala, Is this it?? Click HERE! sudo
  12. George, You and Ala got sucked in to changing file associations when you installed the QuickTime player. Geeze.. I'm really sorry and wish people were more internet saavy. I don't even have QuickTime loaded on my computers. But that's just me. If you and Ala had MP3 and WAV files configured to open with Microsoft Media Player.. you wouldn't have to go through the gymnastics you're doing now. sudo
  13. Yeah.. sad. I'm like you, Pirate. "WORK!!!!" WORK!!!!" It was the beatnick thing. Like hippies, they didn't actually have jobs. sudo
  14. Kathy, You know.. I'm really disappointed we haven't seen Rick or Wasway here for the latest round. I guess I'm going to have to post the finale withouth their ever checking it out :(-->. I'll give 'em 'till tomorrow. sudo
  15. My my.. lotsa posting going on this weekend. And sometimes we get nada. It was two whole pages back that I posted the last movie clip so I want to re-post to bring it up to the top for folks just checking in. Click HERE! and HERE! I know you don't know it Kathy but I've got another clip from the movie for you. It's a cameo by a woman you know very well. Who is this lady with the thick (obviously fake) Southern accent? If you don't know right off the bat it's because 1)This was before she got famous and 2)She's not dressed the way you remember her and 3)Its a poor quality video with audio synchronization slightly off. I'm new to video editing. I've done audio aditing for years and feel pretty comfortable with it but video?? Many many more variables, formats, codecs etc. to deal with so I know you'll be forgiving... click HERE! And since it's going to sputter and spit at you the first time you play it.. simply play it again and it should be fine. sudo
  16. I'm first up.. I'm first up.. da-da-de-dah-daaaaah! Oh, I've BEEN up for a while. Number one daughter has a headache and needed one of daddy's potions. Dog's been out.. Ah! I love holidays.. And I've got another clip to post in a bit, too!! sudo P.S. In case anyone missed that voice... here's another go at it...HERE!
  17. Kathy, It's official.. you're now the designated greeter for the Nostalgia thread !! So keep up the good work and lets get folks visiting. For Mooony we're going to need a Starbucks pitcher it looks like but I don't know about Brother Speed... maybe he'd appreciate a little clip I think he'll be familiar with... click HERE! sudo
  18. Kathy, Having friends and neighbors that march to the beat of a different drummer makes life much more interesting, huh? Here's another clip.. you can hear one of the characters saying, "Give it a chance" as the crowd gets annoyed. Click HERE! I have the video of this scene I'll post once everyone gets a chance... and another short one that I think you'll all get a hoot out of. Hiway29... re:"Got that in one note sudo. That is an unforgettable image-at least when you're 8 years old..." I obviously think so and I see I'm not the only one. But guess what?? The scene wasn't in the re-make. Nothing even close. There was a saxaphone player playing the song for a few frames and that was it. Sheesh! sudo
  19. Pirate, You remember well and I can understand why that might be the only scene you remember. It's something!! I got up this morning pleased to see that the Ramblin' Wreck had beaten Auburn. Being an Ole Miss fan, I generally pull for SEC teams but 1)Georgia Tech *USED* to be in the SEC and 2)Auburn has a proven liar as head coach. sudo P.S. Kathy.. you might not have seen the movie but the star claimed to have been secretly married to Howard Hughes. But I recently saw The Aviator and she wasn't mentioned.
  20. P.S. Now time to go watch (hopefully) Auburn get its butt beat!!!! sudo
  21. What an active weekend here on the Nostalgia thread! I was going to be watching the Georgia vs Boise State football game on TV instead of posting here but last I checked, Georgia was leading 38-0 in the 3rd quarter. Not much to watch. So how 'bout a new tune for you guys to guess?? This is one of my favorite movies though the only Acadamy Award it won was for special effects. The reason I haven't posted it before is that I could never find a music clip of what I'm about to post. But now that I have my combo DVD-VCR player, I transferred the movie to DVD and then loaded it on my computer. OK.. if you didn't follow that, I understand :D-->. Here's what I want to tell you all about this clip you're about to hear... whenever I hear that song playing... I think about this scene in this movie. I suppose I'll always associate it that way. What I'm really wondering is... how many of you guys will recognize this right off and how many will have never seen this movie. I'll also tell you this.. at about the 31-32 second mark, the image which is taking place on screen made a huge *HUGE* impression on me as a child. You hear the people screaming??? What a spectacle!! I shall never forget that feeling I got many years ago. Click HERE for the introduction :D--> and then HERE for the clip. Remember the rules of the thread.. cryptic answers and have fun. I really do LOVE this movie and there's a Howard Hughes tie-in as well!! sudo
  22. P.S. Say George.. do you have any of your band's songs you could e-mail me to post??? sudo
  23. Ted, I don't doubt you a bit about Skip's abilities on the tenor sax. But did you know our very own George St.George here plays a mean sax AND clarinet in a band?? I've found that musicians play this little game of ours better than the average person.. musicians are somehow atuned to music themes, I guess. Kathy.. here's your two pics cropped and converted to JPG's... about 33k each. Right click on 'em to save them to your hard drive. That file Rick posted was nearly 3 dang megs!!! I was wondering why my cable modem was taking so long to load it!! Hee-hee! sudo
  24. Rick, The shade of those pics tells you they go way back. Seems there was a time when all pictures got that green tint fade to them. Thanks for letting Rick post those, Kathy. Is that a costume the little one is wearing? That tt3 wav you posted was just excellent, Rick. The virtuosity of the musicians was really on display but I don't know who they were. At first I thought it could be Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. sudo
  25. Pirate's right.. It's from the movie A Summer Place alright but i don't think I ever saw it. But man.. that theme song.. its played on all the easy listening radio stations across the country. I looked it up on IMDB (the internet movie database) and it didn't get very good reviews. The story line seemed pretty spicy to me, though. That's the same time frame that Peyton Place was making big waves, too. Same sort of stuff. We all just LOVE stories about illicit love it seems -->. The principals are gone now. Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee. Both died relatively young and in kinda' tragic circumstances. Hollywood isn't a good place to garner life skills. Thanks for the post, Rick. It is indeed nostalgic to listen to. sudo
