  1. George, Ala's right isn't she? Yeah... like I said.. it was some 70's show, corecto-mundo?? Hey guys! Want to hear a studio soundyou've ALL heard? One that came on at the beginning of the movie? But one you can't remember WHICH studio? Hee-hee! Admit it. Can't name the studio can 'ya? Click HERE! and prove 'ole Sudo wrong! :P sudo
  2. Socks, You can use your search engine of choice but here's one site I found right off. HERE! I didn't think it was going to be that controversial. And Socks.. I don't doubt that believers credit their faith to their being better people, more moral and stuff but Geo's point.. and I think its pretty well borne out is.. it just ain't the case. sudo
  3. Mark, I think you're missing Geo's point by pointing out the shortcomings of the study. 'Ya know.. I have to agree with you on a lot of what you said, though I'm just not up to snuff on the multi-variate studies and the like. I was a chemistry major in college with minors in biology and psychology. Back then, psychology was almost recognized as a real science because behaviorism was in vogue. But sociology was universially ridiculed as a "science-wanna-be". I have to agree.. the "study" had an agenda to prove that was obvious from the abstract. I look at these kinds of studies and try to pick and choose from the data. But, of course, we don't have access to the raw data but I don't REALLY care because what it boils down to is the study's saying that more religious nations don't have less anti-social behavior. How about doing a factor analysis if you want to know if religion really is a factor or not? These flawed studies are the type done by liberals to prove whether or not gun control methods reduce crime. You go to Sweden and see less muders per-capita and conclude its because they have more stringent gun control laws. Yeah, but Sweden has no minority underclass (of any significance) to deal with. Now they're trying the same thing only using religion. You just can't DO that statistically with any validity or reliablity. But about missing Geo's point. I think it IS safe to conclude that religious people aren't any "more ethical" then the non-religious in several aspects. In fact, the religious are much more muderous, IMO. They love to kill those not of their faith. They'll even purposely kill themselves just to kill those of faiths they particularly dislike. My point was that prisons are filled with people of faith. Maybe that was the gist of Geo's point... getting religion doesn't make you a better person. It maybe even makes you more violent and less tolerant. But can't speak for Geo. sudo
  4. Ala, I hear those choppers in the first one, too. Were there choppers in McHale's Navy? Somehow that's what's coming to mind. Hmmm.. Could it be??? That second one I wouldn't want to even venture a guess.. it was probably some 70's TV show that I never watched because I was in college and studying all the time . sudo
  5. Geo, Bless your little cotton picking heart. I wonder at your endurance sometimes. Why do you even bother, I ask? What I don't understand from the linked article is just why America is so religious compared to the other advanced countries in the world. I've been guilty of assuming that religion calms down the masses.. is the opiate of the people. Makes teenage girls more apt to stay away from sex and all that. But.. it doesn't, I'm afraid. It just makes 'em feel more guilty after the fact. Americans really like their religion. Wanna' know where there are more believers than anywhere else?? American prisons. From Black Muslims to Christians. Almost no agnostics nor atheists exists among our criminal classes. Thought you might want to know that on a thread wondering "Why religion?". sudo

    Halloween

Ahh! It's started.. the first little ones have come by. I really prefer them to the rowdy nearly high school crowd that tried to snatch handfulls of candy !! They usually come last sudo
  7. Sheesh! Did I miss another birthday??? Happy Birthday anyways, Belle! <img src=http://www.fathom.com/course/21701726/img.1.jpg> sudo

Honey... Go see if the neighbor's cat took our pumpkin again, please! sudo
  9. Rick, No, I'm not familiar with Norah Jones. Those tunes you posted of her music were nice but they're not my type. Now before you go getting all offended I have to let you know that it's probably just me. As the saying goes, we can't know our future until we understand our past. I know a LOT about our past and have a good feeling about where we are headed but... I admit not being that keen on our present. Not that I'm proud of that. Yes, I know a lot of what's going on in politics but I have made politics an off subject here because of the acrimony. This is a place of solitude for those wanting a respite. But when I glance at who won the Grammy's each year... I don't even recognize the names of the groups or artists. This is just way of explanation. Generally, I see little that is musically interesting in today's popular music culture. I say this realizing that those my age now (53) said the same thing about the Beatles when they hit the airwaves in America in 1964. Rick, we all appreciate your input here but it's been getting sparse and I hope it wasn't anything I said that drove you and Wasway away. We've been doing this for years now and thought we were having a good 'ole time but then a few months ago.. you and Wasway just kinda' quit posting and I'm not sure why. Was it because I allowed all the ladies to do all the chit chatting? Or was it just getting stale? Personally, I get a kick out of hearing the girls chit chatting about their daily lives. I feel like they are real friends of mine though we have never met but I can see that maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea to see greetings first thing in the morning. Also, Rick, I want to thank you again for how generous you have been with your bluzecentral.net server. But then, you are a very generous person and I want you to know I mean that. I guess... I just miss your posting here. That's all :( sudo
  10. Kathy, Go check your pic on the Halloween thread. Looks like Anglefire doesn't allow their images to be posted elsewhere. What I do in situations like that, is save the pic to the hard drive.. upload it to mail.bluzecentral.net ... and then link to it THERE! sudo
  11. It's from a Halloween movie... Click HERE! It really rocks about half way into it. LOVE that honky tonk piano. sudo

    Halloween

Here's a thread for anyone with a good Halloween cartoon, song, joke, story, favorite memory.. whatever. I've got this cartoon that Bowtwi sent me. Plus.... a song some may remember. Click HERE! for the tune... anyone remember the year?? sudo
  13. Ala, I would try to answer the question but I don't know who Norah Jones is. You are disappointed that folks just ignored you but that's the nature of a thread like this so you CAN'T take it personally, hun. It used to happen to me all the time back when Rick and Wasway were also posting tunes. Sometimes there'd be 5 or 6 unanswered posts and we'd have to ask... "Is that all of them?". This thread has been around for many years now. Pirate is the one who seems to remember when it all started but I lose track. Funny, because I'm the one who started it in the first place way back on WayDale. Initially, it was just old TV theme songs but expanded to movies. Now we're more a group of folks who like a place to hang out. That's fine with me but with all the chit chat, questions like yours often get overlooked, Ala. Just like they used to. 'Ya can't get your feelings hurt because even if folks want to answer.. there are lots of things that come up that distract. Kinda' like thread derailing... a thread gets started over something but soon enough it turns into a thread about something entirely different. It just happens. I'm sorry I didn't answer but as I said.. I don't know Norah :( . sudo
  14. Karateka, You saw Ted when you were a kid, eh?? Well, that makes you a youngster in this crowd, my dear . Good to see you here! Now visit around... post all you want and generally make yourself at home. And, uh, would you mind passing me the prune juice, sweetie? sudo the aged
  15. Jetc57, Uh, the order??? sudo
  16. - Redneck Driving Etiquette - Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun is loaded and the deer is in sight. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires always has the right of way. Never tow another car using pantyhose and duct tape. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer. Never relieve yourself from a moving vehicle, especially when driving. Do not remove the seats from the car so that all your kids can fit in. Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession. - Redneck Personal Hygiene - Unlike clothes and shoes, a toothbrush should never be a hand-me-down item. If you have to vacuum the bed, it's time to change the sheets. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done in private using one's OWN truck keys. Plucking unwanted nose hair is time-consuming work. A cigarette lighter and a small tolerance for pain can accomplish the same goal and save hours. Note: Its a good idea to keep a bucket of water handy when using this method. - Redneck Dining Out - Remember to leave a generous tip for good service. After all, their mobile home costs just as much as yours. - Redneck Entertaining in Your Home - A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table . . . no matter how good his manners are. If your dog falls in love with a guest's leg, have the decency to leave them alone for a few minutes. - Redneck Dating (Outside the Family) - Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date. Be aggressive. Let her know you are interested: "I've been wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the men's bathroom wall two years a go." If a girl's name does not appear regularly on a bathroom wall, water tower, or an overpass, odds are good that the date will end in frustration. - Redneck Theater Etiquette - Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up immediately after the movie has ended. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have proven they can't hear you. - Redneck Wedding Etiquette - Livestock is usually a poor choice for a wedding gift. Its is not okay for the groom to bring a date to a wedding. When dancing, never remove undergarments, no matter how hot it is. A bridal veil made of window screen is not only cost effective but also a proven fly deterrent. For the groom, at least rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund and a clean bowling shirt can create a natty appearance. Though uncomfortable, say yes to socks and shoes for this special occasion. - Redneck Etiquette for All Occasions - Never take a beer to a job interview or ask if they press charges. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them. Always say "Excuse me" after getting sick in someone else's car. It's considered tacky to take a cooler to church. Even if you're certain that you are included in the will, it's considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home. The socially refined never fish coins out of public toilets, especially if other people are around. Always provide an alibi to the police for family members. sudo
  17. Moony, A Nostalgia get-together-weenie-roast for spouses, too?? Sounds like that would work to me. Of course, we would have to ask Ala.. she's the one putting it on. I sure hope she has room at her house for all of us. Now *I* don't mind sleeping on the couch but Carol likes a fluffy bed with her comforter. And I do have to admit.. she's awfully warm to sleep next to.. especially since she's, uh, put on a little weight. Hee-hee! I lost all those pounds nearly three years ago and she jokes that she GOT them.. Hiway29.. Do you figure he was wearing a toupeƩ even back then?? And just in case the song in question has been lost in the shuffle... click HERE! I'm gonna' have myself a football Saturday in front of the TV tomorrow for a change. We've been going down to Oxford for the Ole Miss home games but they're playing Auburn (and a 20 point underdog to boot) at Auburn tomorrow so I'll be home for a change. Which means I'll be able to pop in here all day long to see what's going on. I've got another fun tune to post but I'm ready to let someone post one and let ME guess for a change. sudo
  18. Hiway29, Thanks for not giving it away but then.. I think you figured I posted this one for you, huh? Too bad you're way over there on the West coast because we would have a lot to talk about at next year's weenie roast. Looks like it's going to be in Kentucky again next year. Ala.. this is from another Disney film made in the 50's. But it isn't a very well known movie so it's quite likely no one other than Hiway29 knows it. So here to help is a pic of the two stars taken "backstage". You probably won't recognize the "pretty Irish girl". You can't see her red hair in the B&W photo and she died quite unexpectedly at age 38 in 1972 from ischemic heart disease following a heart attack. So her name isn't well known. sudo P.S Mooney... you've seen the Disney version of Peter and the Wolf?? I never have but understand it is really good.
  19. George, You're right. I didn't read the whole thread to see how ya'll played it. I apologize again. My bad. sudo P.S. Googling IS allowed on Nostalgia, BTW. If I think someone's too good... I start posting tunes with no lyrics and see how they do. Let 'em try to Google da-de-da-da-dum :D.
  20. This is fun.. Classical music.. and great Disney movies from back when Disney did only 'G' rated family films. Yep.. the classical composer was Piotr Tchaikovsky. A truely great musical talent. He could produce ethereal, magical music like the Nutcracker or stirring military magesty like the 1812 Overture. The Sleeping Beauty is haunting and will stay with me till the end of my days, I'm sure. It just so happens I had another tune on my hard drive that I think you guys might like. Just click HERE! If you don't know it right off, let me say I understand.. this very famous actor never sang in any other of his many movies that I know of. And no one would label him a great singer in THIS movie. sudo P.S. Ala.. it's not tough at all to post stuff. Just ask Kathy. Up until a few months ago she posted only pics. Now she knows how to download tunes, upload them to a server and then link to them. She just doesn't DO it that often
  21. Wordwolf, Naw.. you had me dead to rights the first time. I Googled it. I've tuned in to this thread a few times but never posted. I couldn't quite understand why folks wouldn't just look the lyrics up... Google them. So I saw the latest example, quickly Googled it and what the heck.. posted the Google result. Didn't seem like much of a challenge. I guess since that is so easy to do that the rules of the thread stipulate 'ya gotta' do it from memory. I wouldn't trust a thread that said you couldn't Google stuff. It's kind of like having a test in school where the teacher leaves the room, promises not to return for an hour, and says there is to be no turning in anyone for cheating. How much cheating do you think would be going on? But I apologize, Wordwolf. I didn't know there was no Googling allowed. Won't happen again. sudo

  23. Kathy, Yes it was... Sleeping Beauty. Do you remember whether or not you ever saw it? That could be why it seemed so un-familiar. But wouldja like a bonus question?? Yes, you say?? OK.. since you insist. The main theme of Disney's Sleeping Beauty was taken from a famous classical composer's work. Click HERE! to listen to an excerpt from it. Name the composer OR name the famous opera it is taken from. The 2nd part ought not be too difficult. Hee-hee! I should be ashamed of myself :( . But I'm not :P. Most folks here are not into classical. But I'll give you a hint. The composer is Russian. NOW it all ties together with my Russian tunes posts, huh?? But he doesn't sound Russian, you might say. And I'd have to say.. yep. I agree. Because I'm just an agreeable sort no doubt. sudo-the agreeable
  24. Kathy, No bean soup in this post . You know that one up above that didn't sound familiar (click HERE!)?? Well, I've got a companian piece from the same movie. Click HERE! Now I know you mustave seen this movie... maybe even bought it for the kids like we did. I was an un-named soldier in the play with no lines but I remember marching out when this song was being played. I felt important carring a toy sword. I was probably a novice techie nerd back then because I remember being enthralled with the reel to reel tape recorder that played the music over the PA system. sudo
