I'm a little surprised that this thread isn't getting any more attention since most Greasespotters (I would venture to guess) are overweight but then.. we have been over this material before. Interesting that a study was reported just today on the subject. You know how we're all supposed to be eating a low fat diet to be healthy and lose weight? Come to find out that if women do a seriously low fat diet diet they lose 2 LBS!!!!! in four years!!! Heaven help them if they don't do it seriously.. they get fatter and fatter!! Click HERE! to read the article on MSNBC. Several interesting points. 1) When the author Barbara V. Howard (who so wanted the low fat diet to work) had to explain why doing a low fat diet didn't make the extra pounds melt away, all she could offer was that at least doing a strict low fat diet didn't make one FATTER!!! "“It will help people to understand that the weight gain we’re seeing in this country is not caused by the lower-fat diets,” said study author Barbara V. Howard of MedStar Research Institute, a nonprofit research group." She's got some nerve doesn't she?? A leading Obesity expert countered... "However, the skimpy weight loss after seven years won’t satisfy people looking for a cure for obesity, said Dr. Michael Dansinger, an obesity researcher at Tufts-New England Medical Center who was not involved in the study. “This is like losing the Super Bowl but claiming a second place victory,” Dansinger said. “The results are disappointing in the context of a country trying to battle obesity.” I like that.. losing the Super Bowl but bragging none the less... But folks.. you have to look at the evidence yourselves. You can not trust "experts" who have an agenda. You guys see my weight loss? See how I've kept it off? Did I mention that my Cholesterol and blood pressure plummeted? OK.. its anecdotal but I have to tell you.. there's plenty of evidence like this very study that shows I'm correct on this. And want to know what's telling?? The last sentences:.. "Dansinger, who co-authored an editorial that accompanies the study, said his research has shown that diets like Atkins and The Zone work, but are hard to stay on. “People who succeed at maintaining a dramatic weight loss have changed their mindset and priorities and have made exercise and healthy eating among the top priorities in their lives,” he said." Hard to stay on?? Sheesh! I've been on it for nearly three years now and am as happy as a clam. ANYTHING to discourage folks from the present Politically correct line which is: Low fat works.. Sugar Busters and Atkins diest are BAD for you!!!! sudo

WW, I just have to go through this one more time. LOTS of people think (as you do) that a low carb diet means eating nothing but meat and cheese but it just doesn't have to be that way. My diet is mostly veggies.. but the "good for you" low carb kind. What? Did anyone think that starchy potatoes, corn and white rice were good for them? The GOOD veggies are those like asparagus, bamboo shoots, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, eggplant, jicama, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, mustard greens, okra, onions, pumpkin, scallions, shallots, snow peas, spaghetti squash, string or wax beans, Swiss chard, tomatoes, turnips, water chestnuts and zucchini. Sheesh.. you can be a vegetarian and not eat ANY meat with this diet!! And you eat ALL you want from this list. You don't go hungry.. EVER. Look at the list.. this is a healthy way to eat. I haven't mentioned it yet on this thread but my blood pressure plummeted to an athlete's blood pressure. My Cholesterol and triglycerides are now in the very optimal range instead of the "high" catagory. It boils down to this... if you can get the weight off.. and KEEP it off doing the diet now in vogue.. the low fat diet.. then go for it. But if you're fat and want a healthy way to lose the weight and (here's the important part) KEEP it off.. AND you like the low carb veggies I've listed.. seriously consider the low carb diet plans. Plain and simple. sudo

Mooney, Naw naw naw... you're supposed to be evasive in your answers.. Not just give it away like that! Now everyone knows the tune Cowgirl was posting. For example.. you coulda' said something about the TV show "coming down the aisle" with new talent. Or... you coulda' mentioned that it had an old Blondie in it (since Joan Blondell starred in it) or something along those lines. You've been playing with us so recently you didn't know how we did things. Now as far as mine goes... let's see.. got to give a hint... OK, I've got one. This was a spin off show from a spin off show. The original show was... Love American Style. sudo

What to do.. what to do.. I'll tell you what we'll do by golly!!... another nostalgia tune!! How 'bout that, guys?? Oh, how long has it been? I'll tell you how long.. the last page of this thread that actually HAD an oldie to guess qualifies as nostalgia because it was so long ago!! So here's one you all watched at least ONE episode of because.. how could you all say how terrible this show was if you hadn't?? AND YOU'VE ALL SAID HOW TERRIBLE IT WAS!! You doubt me? Huh! I hear you all saying it, right after I put on those old Jimi Hendrix albums and burn a little incense. Yeah... it all becomes clearer then. I'm, like one with the universe. Seeing all... knowing all. Whoa.. gotta' come down here. Get me some coffee... OK.. I'm alright now. Hey!, I'll even give you the year of the TV show.. 1982. And I'll give you something else (I'm just a very generous giving kind of guy) the theme song was sung by the two stars of the show. You might say that the guy didn't have much of a singing voice which would be ironic considering the premise of the show. Click HERE!! and let's hear how evasive you guys can be. And oh... we're dealing with some evasive guys here. And how do I know?? I'll just evade that question. sudo
-
Yeah guys.. It was Jimi Hendricks alright but I'm a bit concerned. Everyone seemed to know it but it takes an intimate knowledge of hallucinagenic drugs to recognize it!! sudo

Dot, I suspect people are avoiding this thread because they feel awkward about being overweight. If the doctor told warned you about developing Diabetes its because you're overweight and have other risk factors for metabolic syndrome (click HERE!). If you're serious about losing weight lots of plans will work. Belle is giving testimony to Sugar Busters but I lost my weight by doing Atkins (www.atkins.com). The South Beach diet also works well. It comes down to about two things, Dot. One, of course, is getting that weight off but two.. diabetes as part of the metablic syndrome (some folks get diabetes with no risk factors) means limiting the carbs. Its the carbs that insulin has to process so forget low fat stuff.. it's really a combination of low carbs and low CALORIES. Lots more could be said but that's about it in a nutshell. The Sugar Busters.. the Atkins and South Beach diets.. they all do the same thing... cut down on bad carbs and keep folks from zoning out on calories. Here's a couple of me before and after the Atkins diet: Here I am with my fat clothes falling off of me because I was still losing weight and not wanting to buy new clothes yet! My son and I at an out door wedding reception last Summer ..and just this Christmas (I've kept the weight off by doing what I've preached) sudo

You all did OK! Yes, it was James Taylor who I STILL wouldn't have recognized today. The other is Billy Joel on vocals as everyone knew. And Mooney knew the last posted was Guy Lombardo. No one took a guess on the OTHER big band but it was Glenn Miller. He's good  but he doesn't have the crooning saxaphones that made Guy Lombardo's version so popular. And the blues version no one took a guess at? It was B.B. King. I knew him from his Memphis connection. Did I cover them all? NO!! You guys didn't know Manheim Steamroller's version!! Click HERE! but they DO sound different here, don't they. And finally.. I do have *ONE* more that I was a little reluctant to post yesterday. It's really quite irritating but if anyone's into 60's psychedelic music they can Click HERE! and name the Woodstock artist who did this combined Christmas and New Year's medley. Man... grates on my nerves!! sudo (never a very hip 60's dude)

Bowtwi, I don't know how Rhapsody works so I'm assuming you can't get real MP3's to do with what you want. But I have a nifty little program called Total Recorder that I can e-mail you. What you do is set it up and press the 'record' button. Then, whatever is being played through your speakers is getting recorded by Total Recorder. After the tune stops playing, you hit the 'stop' button. Then you save that file in Total recorder to your hard drive. Voliá!! You now have the tune. You can set it up to record in MP3, WAV or other format and you determine the quality, too. High quality files take up more space than low quality files, of course. I also have music editing software that does stuff like cut out sections of a tune (like empty space at the beginning or ending of songs) and can convert from MP3 to WAV, RealAudio formats etc. Just let me know if you want any of the stuff . *************************** New Year's eve is going by quickly so rather than throw up my Auld Lang Syne tunes one at a time (the one I did post got no takers) I'll just throw 'em all up here on this post, OK? These are all very famous people, I might add. Names anyone would recognize. So let's start out with the one I thought Rick would know... HERE! I recognized the style right off and I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to recognizing blues stuff :P. This next one is a flashback to the early 70's. The guy is still around but gets MY award for most changed appearance.. Click HERE! Continuing on.. this group is most famous for its Christmas CD's I think.. Click HERE! The next artist makes me think of his wife.. or did I hear its his ex-wife now?? Anyways.. Click HERE! Now one of these last two is the one you all know.. question is... which big band is the correct one?? Click HERE! and HERE! and name the famous version and then if you're REALLY good (I couldn't do it) name who the other big band is! I'll say THIS for myself.. I at least knew the famous one from the imposter! Have fun guys! sudo

Bowtwi, You've got the right directory and commands.... now all we need is the New Years file. You posted one that might have been a hit 61 days ago! :P sudo
-
Bowtwi, Bow Jr. appears to be a real professional and it was a pleasure talking to him. I hope you're not a bit miffed I talked to Bow Jr. FIRST.. But I had to talk to who actually had control of the site. Looks like its going to work. Man.. what a voice Bow Jr. has. When he answered the phone (it being Saturday and thinking they might be closed) I thought it was a custom made answering message I was hearing. You guys like tequila?? Click HERE! I might have posted this not too long back.. it was the hit around Allentown this past Thanksgiving. sudo

What's all THIS???? I had just ASSUMED we would ALL be here at the Greasespot posting away happy New Year's day greetings and messages!! Now I hear some of you planning on foresaking us for other endeavers? Where's your commitment, peeee-ple? sudo (who will have 2-3 hours sleep in by midnight)

Ala, Probably the easiest way would be to use 'system restore' unless you're on Windows 98. Click on the Start button and go up to the help and support button.. System Restore will be there for Windows XP. sudo

Cowgirl, I'm hurrying! But I see you're not back yet so I can guess. It's that country band, Mississippi, right? No wait.. wrong state... Georgia? No... that's not right.. It must be somewhere between the two. :P sudo (still waiting to see if Rick show's up and guesses THIS! one)
-
FIRST off... Ala!!!!!!..Where you been? Don't you know we get to worrying over where our regulars are ?? Very good to see you back, girl and I hope you had a great Christmas. Second off... Mooney, here's another very passionate tango for you. Click HERE! It's from Moulin Rouge and talk about PASSION!! That's the one thing new love has in common... passion. It's what drives us, no?? Ah! New love! I wish the very best for you and Ted! Third off... New Year's eve is only two days away and I was wanting to post some New Year's music but soon realized that.. there's only one song ... Auld Lang Syne. Am I wrong here? I can't come up with a single other New Year's tune!! But guess what?? There are lots of versions of Auld Lang Syne. Yes indeedy. So I've gots myself a few versions I'm going to post just to see who knows 'em. The first version is for Rick because its done by a Blues artist. Click HERE! and anyone who knows can name the artist... which shouldn't be too hard because even *I* recognized his style. sudo (who prefers "Are My Ears On Straight")

I'm disappointed :( I thought for SURE someone was going to call me on that!! sudo
-
WW, I'm fully aware that what I'm about to say will label me as some kind of 'information technology' phobe or worse but... I see little reason to even HAVE text messaging on cell phones. My kids use it primarily to talk to their friends during class at school when they aren't even supposed to HAVE their cell phones! sudo

Kathy, Of course Sushi and Mooney are right. It was Harpo Marx in A Night In Casablanca. I was an adult when I saw it for the first time and was astounded how Harpo played that harp like a dang piano!! I had never heard anyone do that before. The movie my sister brought over for us to watch was Duck Soup and as Hiway29 said.. all Harpo does in that movie is pluck some piano wires. Anyone remember how Chico played the piano with his finger pointed like a gun? He's the only one of the Marx brothers who got formal music lessons I understand. And now for a tune Groucho would not care for... click HERE! Guess who!!?? Cowgirl!! Good to see you back. So you're going down to Texas? Give Goey our regards.. we hardly see him anymore. Have ya'll set a date yet?? Nothing warmer than new found love :D . Your song might not be nostalgia but it IS lovely. Here's one for you and Goey (click HERE!) When I think of passionate love.. I think of the Tango... and this tune is just *LOADED* with passion!! I'm really enjoying this week off guys! I don't take much time off from the office but try to enjoy it when I do. It's STILL the "holidays" until January 2nd you know. Hey!! Are there any New Years' eve tunes that need to be posted???? sudo
-
Satori, I can't believe you're telling me this! Not CUT OUT??? WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! Come to your senses, man! I'll not have any of THAT kind of defeatist attitude on MY watch. And after all I went through to get you those WMV files, too sudo (who sometimes has to use tough love)
-
Belle, Re:"I just keep getting e-mails offering to increase the size of something I don't have." I know what you're talking about and I get those e-mails too but then.. I DO have what it is they are talking about . Man man man.. people can be such suckers for scams because I can tell 'ya... I bought about a half dozen of those products and THEY DON'T WORK!!!!! sudo (wondering if people are paying close attention here)
-
Mooney, Yep! I was waiting to get some feedback but you got it... Now back to Nostalgia! sudo
-
Satori, Here they are. Both of them. I downloaded them from their streaming source and then uploaded them to the same server we use on the Nostalgia thread. That means all you guys who download these files have to come play a round or two with us on the Nostalgia thread, you understand.. So just click ( or right click to save target) HERE! and HERE! Now.. lets see how good you are with harp players. sudo
-
Its hard for me to follow you, Sirguessalot. I'll just chalk it up to my ignorance. May you have a great life full of blessings! :D sudo
-
Sirguessalot, Re:"Sudo, why do you bother? really? you talk about brutal honesty, yet... you are so dishonest about this subject in so many ways, one could dedicate an entire thread to it." I bother because I see *myself* 20 years ago in the postings of Jumpinjive. He needed to see that he wasn't the only one who has been down his pathway and to prepare him for what he might find. I'm dishonest, you think? Naw.. I'm being brutally honest here, my man. I have no ax to grind because I have no pie in the sky alternative for our new found friend. If you want to offer him Jesus for everlasting and eternal life singing hosanas then go fer it. I can't prove you're wrong any more than I can prove that the Mormons or Islaamists are wrong. As I see it, since there are so many competing religons it is up to *YOU* to prove your brand of religion is right over the others. And of course, you can't do that. None of the religions can do that. If they could.. then there would only be one "true" religion, wouldn't there? Which just goes to show.. if there were some god up there wanting to be worshipped, rewarding those who did worship and punishing those who didn't (geeze, pretty cruel guy, huh?) then why did he make the evidence so flimsy that even those WANTING to worship him couldn't come to grips on who the right prophets and holy books were anyways? And sirguessalot... you think I'm being dishonest? Phttttt... No my friend.. I'm being totally honest which is probably plenty apparent. Your saying I'm being dishonest is just a way of your negating my points. And deep down.. you know that, I hope. sudo
-
Kathy, Yeah! You're right! Where IS Cowgirl anyways?? We need her around for input here 'fer cryin' out loud! (whatever that phrase ever meant ) Because just lookie here.. I've gots another VERY old goodie. I remember when I first saw the movie that contained this sound clip (Click HERE!) and marvelled at the mastery of the instrument. I was a musician after all and had heard this difficult instrument played many times but *NEVER* had I heard it played with this artistry. And I'm sorry that all I've got is the audio because in the movie it looks so EASY!!! So what made me post this just now? I'll tell yous guys.. my sister brought over a DVD at Christmas that featured the artist only it was another movie. So I searched high and low for THIS particular clip that I remembered. Obviously, I found a clip though it's not that good a quality. But even so... this artist was self taught but admitted that he learned the "wrong" way. However, he was inundated by artists who had learned the "right" way wanting to know how *HE* did it. To my ears.. this piece is truely remarkable. sudo
