Bliss, So... when you two left, did you call any of your TWI friends to tell them you were leaving? It doesn't sound like it. It sounds like you were waiting on them to call YOU. No? How long had you guys been in? sudo

Wingnut, Re:"Nothing like what the previews show and the adultry parts don't bother anyone?" Now why are you bringing that up? Just to prove you aren't some homophobe or closet queen? Why should adultry bother us one little bit since we have Brad Pitt and whats-her-name Jolie having out of wedlock chilluns? And what about Tom Cruise and his honey bunny? People magazine (a mainstream publication) gushes over these folks with nary a negative word over their lack of a marital state. There is a fine line between allowing people their freedoms to live sexually as they choose and yet not sanctioning those choices. I don't think its good for a society to approve of parenting with no commitments. I think its detrimental to children to be brought up in one parent homes. The statistics bear me out thus far and its not a religious thing. Marriage is the bedrock of Asian non-Christian countries and has been for a few thousand years. All the sociologists know this but want so badly to explain it away. Children raised in non-traditional homes (a mother and father) don't fare so well. sudo

Karmicdebt, Re:"Well, I understand, but I am no more disgusted by homosexuals acting inappropriately in public than I am about heterosexuals." Now now.... You have to be honest here. You're telling me that seeing two guys lip locked in public is as disgusting as seeing a young man-woman couple holding hands and kissing in public? I can't speak for you of course but for me?? There's no comparison! I'm totally grossed out by homosexual conduct though I mentally assent to the fact that they are born that way and have rights to be that way. That doesn't mean I want to see homosexual couples adopting and raising children but yes... they have their civil rights. sudo
-
Here's a positive movie review that expresses some of my feelings about homosexuality. I admit that some folks are that way but its not what I would choose to watch for entertainment purposes. "Does being grossed out by gay men having sex make me a homophobe? Does it make me a bad person?" Click HERE! for the full review. sudo

Ala, Ohh... Good songs! That first one.. Stormy Weather. Now that was Marie Osmond wasn't it? I could tell by the smooth voice. And WASWAY'S BACK!!!! And guess what folks? He's stumped me like he said he would. I want to say, "Curses! Foiled again!". 'Ya know, though.. those 80's TV themes were like Southeners living in Memphis... they all sound alike . Uh, it wasn't Cagney and Lacey now was it?? Ok.. since everyone's been asking and so anxious about the one I posted... the male actor was Robert Mitchum. sudo

Assume for a moment there is no God...
Sudo replied to JumpinJive's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
LG, I'll make this short as its not really the topic. Nearly every one of your points is identical with mine. 1) "I don't believe in any sort of deity. That doesn't reflect on my opinion of some religious organizations." And let me add that *I* even attend church services. Heck, I still love a good gospel song. 2) "I like much about Christianity. I simply see it as being based on fables." I agree. Stripped of its ugly fundamentalist extremism it can be such a nice religion to give comfort to its adherents. It offers everlasting life in a heaven of eternal bliss.. lived with all our loved ones who have departed this world. For ever!! and ever and ever... perfectly happy... no illnesses... no divorces... no crime.. no hate.. no babies born with Down's syndrome... no grandparents dying... ever and for ever. Who *wouldn't* feel comforted with that belief system? 3) "...am currently adopting the manner and words of a devout Catholic in order to comfort my mother, who is likely not long for this world. To me, it matters not at all that I don't believe what I say. What matters is that someone who does believe is comforted and helped." Absolutely and without a doubt LG you are doing the right thing. My parents are elderly now and they have little inkling that I feel the way I do. It would break their hearts to think that their oldest son was destined for the gates of Hell (they are Southern Baptist) and doomed for all eternity. Uh, This IS the downside of the religion. But notwithstanding.. I'm not going to hurt them for the world. I don't know why most agnostics and atheists think its so important to be so vocal and belittle those of faith. Like, THAT really helps "the cause". On a more personal note, Long Gone.. I'm truely sorry to hear of your mother's health. My thoughts are with you. sudo -
I went through college on a band scholarship... played the French horn. That's why I thought these jokes were particularly funny... because there's an element of truth to them all. Uh, IMO that is. How can you tell that there's a drummer at your front door? The knocking gets faster and faster. How can you tell that there's a vocalist at your front door? She forgot the key and doesn't know when to come in. How can you tell that there's an accordionist at your front door? He doesn't stop knocking even after you answer. How do you know when a trombone player is at your front door? The doorbell drags. How do you know when there's a banjo player at your door? His hat says "Domino's". sudo P.S. Most of us "classically trained" types like to hold our noses up at folks like.... guitar players hence the following.. Q: How do you make a guitar player play quieter?? A: Put sheet music in front of him.? Q: How do you make him stop?? A: Put notes on it.?

Yes... I am a sentamentalist. Love another person fully and unqualified... live happy lives. To be truly loved back. What greater thing is there anyways? Nothing in my world view. It's all about... and I mean *all* about commitment... family.. and dear friends. Live happy lives. Love your fellow man. Have happy children if you are so blessed. And love as you would like to be loved in return.
sudo

Coolchief, Re"what revelation that was" I remember that. TWI had to make a decision as to whether to use VHS or BETA. They choose Beta. Were they walking with God or what???? sudo (who thinks folks who trust their religious leaders are foolish)

Evan, You have a way with words and I know it comes from the heart. I've been wondering something, though. If these are done one at a time.. won't the ceremony take forever? That's why I dread attending graduations for instance.. It takes nearly two hours just to call out the names of 500+ students and allow them time to walk up and get their diplomas. Maybe there just a few in this home school organization? sudo

Ala, Re:"Your beautiful Gospel Tune.... " Yes, it's a great gospel song but this clip (HERE!) is kinda' creepy in the movie. It could be a little early to give hints since I just posted it last night.... and it is the weekend when folks pop in at odd times. But this movie is a real quirker. The reason I posted that clip is that the movie starred Shelley Winters who died yesterday. That should narrow it down to only about 70 movies fer 'ya! Hee-hee! I loved this movie even the first time I saw it many years back when I hadn't developed much appreciation for the art of movie making. Its one of those few movies I enjoy every time I watch it. It didn't get recogniton when it was made but has grown in reputation since. The IMDB users give it an 8.2 out of 10. That's about as high a rating I've ever seen. It was the only movie the director made as a director but he was a consumate well known actor before that. OK... a hint... the actor singing in the above clip? Who also starred in the movie with Shelley Winters? Here he is singing from a different movie... Click HERE! Pretty good tune even if the singer isn't that good, huh? sudo

Raf, Re:"Downright offensive, if you ask me." We see things the same way only I wouldn't have gone insulting Clinton like that . Re-reading his "apology" to see exactly what he's "apologizing" about and it seems... tell me if you think I'm wrong... he's sorry he said what he believes out loud. Would that be accurate? sudo P.S. And Garth... that must be an awful situation to be in. An agnostic (or worse) minister. I've wondered that there must be a lot of them... especially the ones who go to bona fide seminaries and learn the truth about sacred writings. Maybe they didn't see it until they were married with a family to support and are now stuck in a job where they have to act like they believe something they don't. Kinda' like Congressmen .

Ted, Thanks! Great song, doncha' think? Makes ya' wanna' go down to the beach and boogie to the sounds of a Calypso band! For some reason I'm thinking about Margaritas and I don't even drink the things! I was about to go night night when I was finally able to get my hands on this next one. There's usually no rush around here but I HAD to post it tonight. Most of you will probably be scratching your heads but perhaps someone might get the connection. Click HERE! Does anyone recognize the singer? The tune, perhaps? My mom said after she saw this movie she could never sing that song again in church and not think about this movie. A very unusual movie for several reasons. And just maybe... someone will know why I'm posting it tonight. YAWNNNN!!!!! sudo

Ala, Lookie at you, girl! I'm not the only one checking in here on a Saturday night! Ok.. you could see my first link with the Gilligan video (HERE!) and could hear the next song but didn't know who it was, HERE! So a little hint on the last one.. the artist did several songs in the movie Beetlejuice and is known for Calypso music and social agitation. He also has a daughter that sings. The group that Ted was talking about, Ala? Here's *their* version of the song.. click (HERE!) Umm.. nice song. Makes ME want to fall in love with Marianne!! sudo (into the oldies) P.S. Ala.. you see how the songs I've been posting have, uh, different things showing up when you play them? I do that by editing their "tags". I can send you software to *do* that yourself so folks won't know the songs' name you post, if you'd like. I can be reached at sudo2u@gmail.com

George, Re:"Sudo, your first clip had a goofy extension." Yeah.. it's a Real Player file. You have to have it loaded on your computer like Mooney to see it :( . sudo

Mooney, Re:"We were all there tonight Raf. Did you go into FlashChat. The newlyweds spent their wedding night in chat." Did they have their web cam on??? sudo (wishes he had been there )

Garth, Re:"Money talks alright, even in the 'spurchal' world." Maybe *especially* in the 'spurchal' world, my man. How many 'teachings' have we both listened to concerning tithing? Getting back with interest what you give to the 'movement' of Gawd's Word? Here's one that seems familiar... Giving equals receiving. And do you think there's any LESS importance given to plucking the believers' money in the evangelical churches than it was in TWI?? I'll go even further... I attend a very liberal church. The only time the senior minister gets 'fundie' is when its time to make the annual pledges to the church. He marches out Malachi every dang year (Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.) and what gets me is... 90% of the church members seem to act like its the first time they've ever heard it! The Lord bless every one of these members' hearts because they are at this church to do good works... distribute Meals On Wheels©, food baskets to the poor and transportation to the aged and infirm etc. But the senior minister knows how to yank the chains to make folks feel guilty.. even if he doesn't do it a LOT. I'd love to know how many skeptics there really are at this church like myself but I dare not bring it up. You know how true believers are, Garth... there's no greater sin than not believing. So I wonder in silence. sudo

Raf, "Sort of" is being generous don't you feel? He apologized for being insensitive... saying what he did at an inopportune moment.. not that he was wrong about what he said. Is that an apology? (Click HERE!) and if one wants to be truly cynical... here's a good reason why he even offered THAT up for consumption... HERE! Israel was going to eliminate his new project. And did you notice it took a week for him to offer up what little he offered up in the way of an apology? Still.. I think he's more mainstream than you might imagine. Remember my upbringing was Southern Baptist and I still hear my relatives blather on about these things. 'Ole Pat still has a LOT of followers who are behind him 100%. sudo

George, This is for YOU! 'ole buddy. Or should I say.... "little buddy"???? You posted this: "..This song couldn't have been about the original vacationers, because Ginger and Mary Ann were not secretaries, and the Professor was not a high school teacher." But it IS about the *ORIGINAL* vacationers. Hee-hee! I kinda' liked Bunny myself. For those of you with Real Player... here's the opening snippet... Click HERE! Does anyone remember how the opening theme song changed later on? I understand Tina Louise was a bit of a pill and the change was made to accomodate her. I've always said that I preferred Mary Ann to Ginger but after I became an adult, Ginger became more acceptable. Perhaps a child picks up on things... like Ginger wasn't the warm fuzzy type that was Mary Ann. Ah! Mary Ann. I'm not the only one who loved her, you know. Even little children loved Mary Ann. Click HERE! and name the artist... since we have nothing else to name at the present time. sudo

I'm surprised that the posters here have such LITTLE spiritual insight... We know this man's character. Had that been a "666" on his forehead, no doubt everyone would know what that meant.. but this takes great spiritual perception to ascertain so let me 'splain it to you all. It's a big.. fat.. brown colored "0". It's the mark of the anus. Placed there by the Almighty lest anyone kill him for his deeds. Oh, hold on.. let me check... Silly me... That was CAIN that was being protected! It's OK to kill THIS anus! sudo (using salty language)

Jade, You want blonde jokes?? I've got blonde jokes, girl! Three women who work in the same office notice that their female boss has started leaving work early every day, so one day they decide that after she leaves, they'll take off early, too. After all, she never calls or comes back, so how is she to know? The brunette is thrilled to get home early. She does a little gardening, watches a movie and then goes to bed early. The redhead is elated to be able to get in a quick workout at her health club before meeting a dinner date. The blonde is also very happy to be home early, but as she goes upstairs she hears noises coming from her bedroom. She quietly opens the door a crack and is mortified to see her husband in bed with HER BOSS! Ever so gently, she closes the door and creeps out of her house. The next day the brunette and redhead talk about leaving early again, but when they ask the blonde if she wants to leave early also, she exclaims, "NO WAY! Yesterday I almost got caught!" sudo
