  10. Paw, Re:"How could you miss JEFF BECK and BILL WYMAN" Now *I* feel embarrassed. Those names sound so very familiar. Were they limb or region co-ordinators??? sudo
  11. Kathy, Its a no-contest. THAT version rocks, girl! The fast one?? I don't even LIKE it. Sheesh! Uh, who's singing in your version?? sudo
  12. Allan, I agree with you that there are reaons other than religious differences for people to slaughter each other. But religion is right up there as a main culprit. Heck, we don't even get that much reported here on some of the lessor known skirmishes. Didja' ever here of the Sikhs and Hindus in India killing each other? This is over and beyond the Hindu vs Muslim killings. Yep.. lots of killing done in the name of religion and as I stated in my first post... I was almost convinced the Muslims were the worst in this regard. Shoot.. they are amateurs compared to the Christians of the Inquisition era. Boiling oil... now THAT'S a way to torture!! sudo
  13. I have to agree about Carol (or is it Carole?) King. I just didn't like her slection of tunes. Oh, and BTW, Rick.. they were playing Layla too fast! But hey!! Nothing wrong with the quality that I could see! sudo (looking for his glasses)
  14. Clay, Oh, not a whole lot, I guess. So is everything going Ok for you? The economy is doing fine and unemployment is low. I try to keep in mind that things could always be worse. In my case, MUCH worse as things are pretty good. But in a lot of the world, things aren't going very well at all (people are being slaughtered actually in Darfur) and the prime reason is because of religious differences. Nearly always... religious differences. Heck, even within a given religion like Christianity it was Catholic vs Protestant in Europe. And with Muslims Sunni vs Shiite. So I vacillate. On the one hand religion gives hope and assurances but on the other it makes folks kill others or the very least make people live as one religion dictates. And what riled me up this time?? The fact that a mainstream religion is now joining the fray of the radical religions by demanding legal action and "respect" from secular sources. The Catholic church. Umph umph umph. And folks here at the Greasespot want to argue with me over it. sudo
  15. Sir, Re:"..and there are some highly rational, reasonable logical folks who are religious who i am quite sure are more troubled by what is going on in the name of religion than you are and are actually actively working night and day to help the world situation." Highly reasonable folks?? Like the man who was a leading contender for Pope? Click HERE! And you wonder why I am troubled?? Maybe its because folks like you *AREN'T* troubled!! Maybe folks in Baghad aren't troubled over suicide bombers trying to fight the Christian infidels, less than religious Muslim Shiites, less than religious Muslim Suniis or whoever either. Ho-hum. Why get worked up over these things, huh, Sirguess?? Re:"i dont think generalized alarmist reactions to things done in the name of a religion are a rational response...and really only make things worse." Not a rational response? Tell me then, Sir.. we have Iran supposedly trying to get nukes to obliterate the Jewish state IN THE NAME OF RELIGION. Not a rational response? Am I just being alarmist?? Now think about it Sirguess.. who exactly is hiding their head and not facing up to realities?? sudo
  16. CM, Re:"nevermind the wisdom that is in front of of your face" And what praytell, CM, is the wisdom I am mising? That I ought to know better than try to buy beer on sundays where fundy Christians are in a voting majority? I didn't mention it but you fundies have also ruled that all liquor stores are to be closed ALL DAY on Sundays. Force of law. No exceptions. And you think I'm missing (in your words) "wisdom that is in front of of your face"??? You wanta' know what I think, CM? Oh, you probably don't as you relgionists usually are pretty close minded but here goes... I think you will not be satisfied until you have put the whole world under your theocratic Xian thumb. Crush the Muslims and their heresies. Nuke 'em if need be but by Gawd have godly Christianity as the law of the world! The whole wide world! Fight the Muslims and THEIR efforts to make eating pork illegal. Its against the Old Testament after all. Fight the Jews. Heck, fight the non-fundy Christians and their efforts to allow everyone their freedoms. Fight 'em ALL CM!! You can justify it in the end!! "nevermind the wisdom that is in front of of your face" Dang straight CM!!! Screw 'em right???? sudo
  17. It's a great weekend here. My daughter from Ole Miss is here with 6 of her good friends. I've had to let my "Daddy duties" go bye-bye as these young people are staying up to 3 O'clock in the morning and sleeping until (literally) noon. I have to accept that my daughter is a semi-adult now . My gawd how did we ever allow such young people so much freedom ??? I was talking to Rick this afternoon and mentioned this music video I had that I thought he had sent me. He couldn't remember sending it and I couldn't swear as to where I got it but its pretty memorable on a few levels. First off, I'm not much into music videos. But this one is different. It's George Harrison and Ringo Starr doing a live performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps with other performers. And its the other performers that make this memorable, IMO. Its intoduced by Elton John (before he knew he was gay?) who blubbers and is nearly speechless over performing with Harrison and Starr. Eric Clapton did the lead guitar work on the original White Album version but does so much better here. All the while George is strumming rythym guitar, Clapton is almost bowing to Harrison as he performs. As if he is looking for approval. Look at it yourselves. We shall never see this again. It's rather large as I didn't want to degrade the quality so you guys might want to 'right' click and save it instead HERE! sudo
  18. Those threads on muslims being so dang sadistic, a religion of peace? Almost had me thinking how far we Christians had come. But TODAY!! This news story about a contender for Pope in the last election. Click HERE! Maybe its because he's Nigerian and Lawd knows how backwards those people are but I suspect its because he's wanting his share of the turf. "Christians must not just sit back and say it is enough for us to forgive and to forget," Arinze said in the documentary made by Rome film maker Mario Biasetti for Rome Reports, a Catholic film agency specializing in religious affairs. "Sometimes it is our duty to do something practical. So it is not I who will tell all Christians what to do but some know legal means which can be taken in order to get the other person to respect the rights of others," Arinze said. "This is one of the fundamental human rights: that we should be respected, our religious beliefs respected, and our founder Jesus Christ respected," he said, without elaborating on what legal means he had in mind.... Take legal action if someone makes a movie castigating your beliefs? Oh, I have to admit that's better than the Muslims wanting to kill folks over slandering Da' Prophet (peace be upon his momma) but the mindset folks.... is the EXACT same!! Don't make fun of us or we will GET you!! What? You doubt me? I had almost forgotten because I'm such a nice guy. I was in the local grocery store a few years ago getting supplies for the Super Bowl party Carol and I were having at our house that afternoon but guess what?? I couldn't buy beer because IT WAS BEFORE NOON!!! The good Christians in this area have the laws passed such that not only can fundamentalist Christians like themselves not buy beer on Sundays before noon... but no heathens who don't sanctify the Sabbath day can't but it either... ON PAIN OF CRIMINAL PENALTIES!!! How could I have been suckered in? Some of you guys trying to make me think that the Muslims were somehow different from the Christians?? NOW don't you see guys?? The goals are the same, folks.... put others under Sharia law!! Oh, excuse me... Sharia law if you're muslim.... CHRISTIAN laws (and which Christians determines if beer is a sin? Hopefully the Catholics who love their beer and hate their condoms) in Christian lands. Now... lets fight to the DEATH to prove whose side the "One True GodĀ©" supports!! Hot dang!!! How LONG for people to realize how destructive religions can be!! Lord help us!! sudo
  19. Yep you guys.. Of course, its not like I didn't give any clues but the film clip was from The Birth Of A Nation. Today, the movie is praised from a cinematic stand point but reviled as being racist. I just watched most of it again and I think the racism charge is overblown... but that's just me. Its the acting that gets me. In movies today, the acting is so nuanced that even a slight move of an eyebrow is all that's needed to convey an emotion. On television, the actors usually emote a little stronger. On the stage they have to be VERY expressive so the guy sitting up in the balcony can get it. But the silent movies are something else. Hee-hee~! The sound clip that everyone recognized (and yes I used it before but didn't elaborate) was Robert Mitchum and lilian Gish in Night Of The Hunter. It was a very quirky movie and you either liked it or you didn't. It was the only film directed by Charles Laughton and I liked it. That clip of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms is so very spooky in the movie. Robert Mitchum is coming to kill children as he sings it. Brrrr.... Kathy.. liked your music. Its not exactly Barnum and Bailey though is it? sudo
  20. Do any of you guys watch Turner Classic Movies?? I recorded a great movie this week that I'm sure most of you have heard of. It was a little before my time (beings as it wuz a silent movie) so I can't exactly call it 'Nostalgia' but who knows?? Could be we have some really OLD folks reading this thread, hmm?? So what was this movie? Click HERE! for one of the most famous scenes and give it a little bit to load. You see the cutsy girl at the end of the segment? She's only 22 years old here but she lived a rich long life and died not THAT long ago at age 99... just a few months shy of what would have been her 100th birthday. And since you can't hear her voice in a silent movie.. I've got a clip of her singing. You have to listen to the male actor for a bit but click HERE! and at the one minute mark you'll hear her in another most memorable movie. What is the famous movie that the clip is from? Who is the long lived actress? Who is the actor in the sound clip? What movie was THAT clip from? Will there ever be world peace? Oh, so many questions!! sudo
  21. Sushi, Aw, Christine is nothing compared to this next canary. Now, click HERE! to hear a really accomplished singer. And I bet you don't even know who it is!! sudo (an expert on these things)
  22. George, Re:"Isn't that a step-ball-change?" Well, maybe so but that's not how *I* heard it as a kid taking dance lessons . And as far as your Fred and Eleanor clip goes, what you thought would be easy, wasn't for me. I don't know WHO the narrator is. But.. I know the song. Let's just say that song begins something. You're right about the dancing.. as the narrator mentioned. They made it seem so effortless and I wonder how many takes it took to get it?? Hints on the narrator?? He DOES sound very familiar. sudo
  23. Hey guys! George St George sent me a nice Fred Astaire Eleanor Powell clip and asked me to post it. So click HERE! and enjoy a bit of Americana of days past. Tap dancing really ain't my thing personally but I appreciate the art form. When I was a kid, parents of modest means (my parents fer example) would see that their children had a few advantages in life. Some got piano lessons. But a lot got dance lessons. I can still do a slap-ball-chain :) . Today?? Lots fewer dance lessons but the kids get to play soccer. Hmmm.. Thanks George!! sudo
  24. Hiway29, I was just teasing you about the Mac. I make fun of Mac users because I don't know anything about Mac's myself. So, if I run down their machines that means I can remain ignorant and justify being ignorant, right? Say, were you able to watch the video intro that I converted to a MPG?? That's tough to do with the software I'm using!! I'm tempted to say Walston is the better actor because he's totally believable in whatever part he's playing. He's the curmudgeon in Fast Times and the happy-go-lucky sailor in South Pacific. Bixby, on the other hand always comes across as a very nice good hearted type no matter how ANGRY he tries to appear in The Hulk fer instance. John Wayne had the same problem, IMO. He seemed to be the same character in every role.... just with a different name :) . sudo
  25. Sushi, Dang! You're right! Rick's server is down! :( . Here's my link (in case Hiway29 shows up) for Lobo on my church server... click HERE! I guess I'll have to wait on the tunes, Sushi. Were you able to rip 'em at a higher bit rate? I have a collection (as many of us do) on the hard drive. You know.. you could just e-mail e-m to me, too, and I could put 'em up tonight. Use the drbowden address... @lroom.org. sudo
