  1. Sushi, Re:"Does anyone else find it amusing that they used "The Flight Of The Bumblebee" for the theme song?" Well, naw. I don't thankyouverymuch. So why don't you 'splain what you're talking about. You're always doing this to me, Sushi... talking over my head. Actually, I thought the song was quite appropriate. I'm sure you more intellectual types might know the correct word for this but to me its like onomatopoeia for songs... if that makes sense. I mean, that song SOUNDS like a dang bumblebee.... or if you prefer ... a hornet. I marvel every time I hear an accomplished musician play it! sudo (so sure Sushi's about to make him look silly)
  2. Kathy, Why did you do an "embarrassed" face? Because you didn't know it was on radio or something? Hey! I found the radio version. The flautist is very good but then its a professional Hollywood musician performing, I'm sure. Click HERE! We are all too young to remember the radio version, of course, but my dad remembers it well. sudo
  3. Kathy, I never watched the TV show but years before it was on the radio. That is a very difficult piece to play. I'm going to look around and see if I can find the radio version. sudo
  4. Hiway29, Re:"I just listened to the whole show." I kinda' thought you would. How we all pulled together during WWII. Here's more nostalgia from a singer we just heard. She's unabashedly patriotic (though this was done in the 50's.. WAY after WWII) and here's a hint... she's from the deep South. Click HERE! sudo (who loves those Southern girls)

    Weenie Roast 2006

John, I don't see how the Henderson location could be possible... all the places to stay are surely booked. Gwinn Island seems the logical choice. What are your thoughts?? sudo
  6. Hiway29, I understand folks have political differences but we've mangaged for 5 years now (hard to believe its been that long) to keep the Nostalgia thread free of those impure thoughts. Free from thinking differently from the way Mother Nature intended for the Nostalgia thread to be... and that is.. the way Bob Hope or Lucy Ricardo would have done it. And if anyone disagrees with that then all I can say is.. they are un-Nostalgic!! Probably need to be reported and all that. Oh, Hiway29... I appreciate that you liked the radio show I posted but I want you to 'fess up, now. I posted this link on my own server so I have ways of checking these things as I'm an avowed computer nerd. You didn't listen to the whole thing now did you? Hmmm??? Don't make me post the logs!! sudo
  7. Kathy, I see that was from 1966 but I don't remember it. By that time, I was pretty picky which cartoons I'd watch. I was a big boy by then.. a whopping 14 years old! But I liked older stuff even then. We watched lots of stuff made in the 1940's like the Bowery Boys and Abbott and Costello movies. I get nostalgic watching them though I wasn't even born when they were made. Here's an example... a radio show from 1942 with an all star cast. America was totally different, of course, back then but it strikes me how the entire nation was behind the war effort. Click HERE! and just listen to how even Hollywood was patriotic. And though we weren't around then, my parents remember this well. sudo
  8. George, Dang hated Quick Time player! Yeah, both Real Player AND Windows Media Player will open the links just fine. I prefer the Media Player myself. Yep.. you have to reassociate the file types, OK. If you know how to get to the file types, make sure you change WAV, MP3, and MP3 to either Real Player or Windows Media Player. That should do it. Also, another thing that kids can do that will change all the file associations is if they install itunes. sudo
  9. Herbal, HERE HERE!!! A happy birthday to you fellow Weenie Roaster and much success in your new endeavors. You deserve it!! sudo

    Weenie Roast 2006

It's looking like Suda and I shall be attending but I haven't talked to her yet. But we had discussed dates and that weekend looked good. More later! Good going Bowtwi! sudo
  11. And for the gruesome attack... Click HERE! I'm having a lot of fun playing around with these video files. I used to do the same thing to audio files but now that most folks have broadband, I don't have to do that any more. But I used to take a large audio file, convert it from MP3 to WAV, and edit it down so that it would play just fine for those with dial-up connections. I think George is about the only one now who has trouble with the MP3. Or at least he's the only one who's spoken up about it. But as long as we're having fun.. right?? sudo P.S. I need an honest answer here folks... who's having trouble seeing the video in this post??
  12. Oldiesman is right here, guys. SIT was the outward manafestation of an internal reality. Or something like that. Lots of folks were saved but didn't speak in tongues because they hadn't been led into it. VPW never said he wasn't saved until he was led into tongues. sudo
  13. Live and learn.. And all I knew was Timmy. I LOVE this thread!! Here's one a few of you may have seen but its a video so it may take a while for those of you with dial-up. Click HERE! Anyone know about this wanton killer? Or the movie?? It's not everyone's cup 'o tea. sudo
  14. What? There was another Timmy before Timmy only his name wasn't Timmy? I don't remember but I remember THIS.. Lassie was one of those Sunday night shows. And at the end while the credits rolled.. Lassie was sitting there with his right paw raised. Good Nostalgia, Kathy! sudo

    Deadwood

Satori, I'm not doubting that the show has some admirable qualities. But Oenophile's information that the screenwriter also wrote for Hill Street Blues and NYPD doesn't impress me much. I couldn't find the article I was talking about but here's one that's similar that also claims.. that people just didn't *TALK* like that in Deadwood in the 19th century!! Click HERE! Which makes the language all the more gratuitous. And is it because I have this hang up on bad words or something? Yes.. a little bit have to admit. But I was all prepared to enjoy a little enlightened entertainment... excellent acting... excellent writing... excellent direction etc. A show that only those with closed minds to the way things really existed would object. Then I find out that things weren't that way at all. Chalk one more up to Hollywood doing their best to push trash down American throats only THIS time... they want to try to make it high brow. sudo (who had the same initial vibes as Jonny Lingo.. it was anachronistic!)
  16. Kathy, That sounds really college. Rah-rah-ree kick'em in the knee! Rah-rah-ras.. kick 'em in... the other knee! sudo
  17. Hey Tom!! What?? No comments on my movie selections?? sudo
  18. This is the Nostalgia thread so this next song qualifies. It was made what? 38 years ago?? Sounds like it qualifies to ME! But the question you guys have to answer... cryptically of course... is why I'm posting this particular song? Click HERE!! sudo (who loves the woodwinds in it)

    Genealogy Question

laleo, Re:"The clerk suggested that I go to the county courthouse in Philadelphia to look through the records." At least Philadelphia isn't that far away. My mom did all this geneology biz about 25 years ago and had to travel to courthouses all across the South. Come to find out, I'm a direct decendant of Jesus and Mary Magdalene! Oh, just kidding. But really, We did find out that none of my ancesters fought for the North in the War of Northern Aggression which was a bit of a relief. You never know WHAT skeletons you'll find in closets. Unfortunately, there were no Confederate generals or even colonels in my ancestry. In fact.. to a man.. they were all merely enlisted men! sudo (whistling Dixie)

    Lady Sitters

I thought I had a pretty good handle on what folks might consider funny... But I think I missed it on this one :( . My wife didn't think this was funny AT ALL and so far none of our fairer sex have commented. I'm tempted to have to say to them... Its a guy thing... you wouldn't understand !! sudo
  21. But what am I? Chopped liver? My receptionist would ask. You can count on Sudo to remedy some of these things. I removed the edit tags and posted it on my church server.. Click HERE! And for those wanting a smaller WAV file.. Click HERE! sudo (feeling like the hero!)
  22. Tom, Re:"Do I need Nero?" I'm sure a real expert on this stuff knows lots of other ways to do it but I think I can pretty much assure you that you're going to have to get some software to do this. I thought the Nero Ultra package was the best deal for the money. On special, I think I got the whole thing for 38 bucks. I'll twell you something else I do, too. I record movies on my DVD recorder that is hooked up to my TV and then download that DVD on to my hard drive. No need to use DVD decrypter as its obviously not encrypted. Then I can edit the movie on the computer. I also have a digital camera that takes short movies that I edit on the computer. For an example of fine movie making just click HERE! observe the pathos of the main actor.. his facial expressions. The nĂ¼ances. And.. what a handsome man he is after all. sudo
  23. Tom, I do that myself. In fact, as we speak, I'm converting Pirates of the Carribean into one large MPG file. I do it with Nero Ultra. First, you use DVD decrypter (freeware available on the internet) to rip the VOB files to the hard drive. Then you use Nero to make a movie importing all the VOB files you just ripped. Then instead of burning it to a DVD you use the 'export' option and you can make it most any size you want. From a good quality DVD to even a poor AVI file. Works for me. Hey check out this snippet I made this way. Do you know the movie? Click HERE! sudo
  24. Hmmm.. I'm surprised no one's seen this movie or knows what happens. Its an American classic. Oh well.. I don't know what's going on with Angelina and Brad lately either . sudo

    Deadwood

Zixar, Re:"While the series has very crude language, the creators insist that the real Deadwood probably had worse. Apparently the legends of the Old West were heavily sanitized for public consumption." That's what I was led to believe, as well, so I tried to "get into" a historical frame of mind. But then I read an article by a noted linguist that said that the language actually used then wasn't of the variety portrayed in the series. That the main way of cursing was sacrilegious in nature.. not sexual. Lots of GD's, references to Hell and the like. Actually, it would be considered quite tame by our standards. So after reading that article, I realized all the vile language on Deadwood was just gratuitous and the good acting wasn't enough to keep me watching. It's the not 'F' word so much as it is the vile references to women by crude names for their genitals. Its disgusting. sudo
