  1. Kathy, George is right on your first one... I can't think of ANY other song written in 5/4 time. We played that theme song in my high school band at football games and it was a real crowd pleaser. That should give a hint as to how old that sucker is. Your 2nd one makes me want to go put on a jacket. Brrrr..... I didn't really watch the show but that's a pretty distinctive theme song, doncha' think?? sudo
  2. Sushi, I don't know the group.. No offense. But I LIKE the song! :) sudo

    Noah's Ark

Ca Dreaming, Re:"I thought they found it years ago..... " Yes they did. But it was so close to the known lair of the Easter Bunny that everyone considered it a hoax. Now THIS one is different and its exciting to think that this could actually be the *REAL* ark. The one God INTENDED for us to find all along! I'm tingling all over. And don't let that "rank heretic" Sushi make you doubt about the facts. Nosireebob... this sounds like the real McCoy to me!! I just hope to God they don't find too many animals remains on it... evidence of all the species that didn't "make it". :( sudo
  4. George, Is *MY* server blocked?? I've placed Sushi's song on my server so click HERE! to hear Sushi's song. Hey! Its pretty cool!! sudo
  5. Tops, Re:".. don't know about the band-are you talking about Dawn?" Yeeeeah. I was. Now isn;t that just a great song? Dod you see him on Good Morning America?? sudo
  6. You guys who had to work on the 4th of July missed it.. But this guy was on Good Morning America on the 4th of July and man has he gained some weight. He used to be so SKINNY!! But this song DO qualify for nostalgia class.. Man... how I love birthday clothes on ladies!! Anyone know it from that hint alone?? Well.. here 'tis.. Click HERE! Anyone remember his backup band?? sudo
  7. Hi folks, We had a good 4th spent with family. Which in MY book is the best way to spend any holiday. I hope all of us are happy and celebrating not only the day but also our love for our family, friends and nation! sudo
  8. George, At least on the Nostalgia thread we don't make folks have to post songs just because they want to participate and guess some. I'm just happy when folks with nostalgic tastes show up and hang out here! My clock sez its 6:11 P.M. That means its STILL the 4th of July and I can STILL post patriotic songs without being branded a flag waver. So click HERE! and enjoy an American legend! sudo
  9. Look at everybody hanging out! George.. it WAS Kate Smith. You thought I was trying to pull a fast one, huh? Sushi.. good anti-war song but I had never heard it. And yours kathy? I LIKE that tune but it doesn't sound familiar to me. Hey guys.. keep 'em coming. And here's the one I always post on this day. Pirate would know if I've skipped a year. Click HERE! TCM is showing the movie tonight! sudo
  10. Dancing, You've got problems in your own head. Goey has been nothing but logical and considerate. sudo

    Weenie Roast 2006

Dmiller, So.. does this mean you're coming to spend "quality" time with us?? Hmmm?? sudo
  12. 'Ya know... We do this patriotic stuff only once a year so forgive me if I do some of the obvious.. who knows who's singing here?? Click HERE! Time was when we all pulled together in war time and were unified as a nation and a people! sudo
  13. Top, Great pics!! Kudos to you! What a country we have, huh?? sudo
  14. And let's not forget that after we declared our freedom July 4 1776, we had a heavy price to pay for it in the war that followed. We presently have our sons and daughters fighting for freedom "over there". sudo
  15. Sushi, We are thinking alike on this!! No, it's not Beyonce but a lady who normally sings in a whole 'nother genre. And I have good reason to believe that Kathy might like this version.. she was crazy about ANOTHER song this lady performed that I posted not that long ago. Guess I'll have to post something appropraite for the season that she can appreciate at work without speakers. sudo
  16. George, Re:"Nice voice, but TOO SLOW!!! It's our national ANTHEM..." Hey! Thank you for the feedback.. Sometimes I feel like no one is even listening. So... you didn't care fer it, eh? Well, lots of national anthems sound good played slow... as an example.. (I said I was in a patriotic mood now didn't I?) Click HERE! And if that doesn't move 'ya.. then nuthin' will!! sudo
  17. All you guys that have to work today.... BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm at home taking it easy!! And I'm in the mood for a little patriotic stuff for some reason. I've several I can post but first up is a version of the Star Spangled Banner I hadn't heard before. Click HERE! and tell me if that singer isn't *GOOD* or what! Sent chills up my spine like the first time I heard Whitney Houston's version. Let me know yay or nay.. I've gots more that ya'll might like! sudo

    Weenie Roast 2006

Bowtwi, I'll tell you what tipped me off when I called.. the "lady" I was talking to... and I have to use that term in the broadest sense because I'd BET she was no older than Annie... asked me if I wouldn't *mind* mailing them a deposit!! I asked if a credit card was OK and it was but good golly! What kind of outfit are these guys running when its not set in stone how reservations are to be handled? BUT!! It looks like a really great place to get together!! sudo
  19. Sushi, I remember it well! I was the health department dentist for Hardeman county Tennessee. A backwoods county if ever there was one and there wasn't a decent radio station around. I was in my car coming home from work listening to the news on one of the least objectionable stations available. After the news, I usually just turned the radio off but didn't this time when they started playing this song. It was Spring of 1978. I wasn't really listening to it at first but after a bit I started to get the gist of the story. I couldn't believe it.. this guy was singing about my love life when I was a teenager. Hee-hee! I burst out laughing in the car when he got to the part where he's now waiting for the end of time !!! sudo

    Deadwood

Hope, I know you haven't read the entire thread so in a nutshell, here is my beef. The language is NOT the way they talked in Deadwood in the 1800's. The writers either did no research into how they really spoke.. or just ignored what they found. Its gratuitous vile language for the sake of gratuitous vile language. The more 'F' words the better BUT!! They didn't TALK like that back then!!! See my link! If that's the way they really talked, then fine. Like you said.. Tony Soprano would have used that language and that's understandable. But does it bother you to know that the language actually used back then was mild by today's standards and that the writers have written it to be as offensive as possible? sudo

    Weenie Roast 2006

Got 'em! Suda and I will be staying in cabin 14 Friday and Saturday night Aug. 11 & 12. I wouldn't do the online reservations if I were you, folks. Its not really set up for it and its not confirmed. Call 'em up at 859-236-4286. We're looking forward to it! sudo (who's going to have to dust off that stew recipe)
  22. Hiway29, Hey!! You're 'sposed to be at least a tad subtle here. Now everyone knows it! :( Kathy.. so you haven't heard the tune I posted for you, eh? I think you'll like it! Ah! The things I do for all the Nostalgiacs. You know.. I think I've posted Harrigan every 4th of July. Rick and Wasway would know it in about, like, two notes. sudo (who misses Rick and Wasway hanging around here)
  23. Hiway29, That indeed sounds like a great time! How much are Dodger Dogs now-a-days?? We have a minor league baseball team here in Memphis and its still reasonable enough for a working class family to go to a ball game. But then our players aren't making the big bucks. We have a facility that's only a few years old that is designed ideally for comfort and amenities. There's been talk about getting a major league team but that would destroy the family atmosphere we have now. Re:"What more can you ask for on a 4th of July." I simply can't argue with that, my man. But if some one's NOT going to the ball field, they might consider watching an old patriotic movie. Click HERE! and name the singers. The lady might stump more of you. Oh, and Kathy.. I was going to post this for you yesterday but alas.. you had no speakers anyways. Click HERE! I actually like this version better than ELP's! sudo P.S. What a co-incidence, Kathy.. we had Bush and Koizumi in twon yesterday, too! Seems Koizumi is a real Elvis fan.
  24. George, Re:"I don't know who played the radio version of the theme, but it was Al Hirt on trumpet for the TV show." Do tell? I'll tell you this, then.. he wasn't the trumpeter that Doc Severinsen is. Listen to the TV version Kathy posted HERE! with Doc Severinsen's version HERE! Al Hirt wasn't playing the whole thing!!! Kathy.. yes, I watched that show but they must have changed the intro's words because I distinctly remember the lyrics saying ".. about two men in the strangest place". Say.. does everyone have 4th of July plans?? I'm taking Monday AND Tuesday off at the office. Don't have to go back until Thursday so I'll be pretty useless when I DO get back. sudo
