Belle, In a line YOU should recognize... I'll cry into my pillow every night! Guess I'll have to make up my world famous better-than-sex stew one serving less. 'Tis a shame really.. we won't meet. Maybe we'll see each other at NEXT year's weenie roast after Ole Miss has beaten Miss. State like a bass drum THIS Fall! BWAHAHAHAHAH!!! sudo

Kathy, Sure you had to. That's pure nostalgia even if we all recognize it. You'd be surprised at folks who DON'T recognize it right off but say things like, "It sure sounds familiar". But those folks don't post here much. That series stands the test of time for me. I can watch an episode now and even though I'm seeing the cheesy special effects that I didn't notice back then, I still ENJOY watching it. sudo

Tom, You and Raf are right.. its just Summer fun. I'd a just preferred a straight pirate movie is all. Did ya'll ever see Captain Blood? Ahhh.. there was a pirate movie. An un-holy alliance between pirates.. Captain Blood and whoever it was Basil Rathbone was playing. And the sword play?? MUCH better than what passed for fencing in POTC. Even as a kid I could tell Rathbone was the better fencer but..... Errol Flynn was the hero and won. And once a bad guy was killed... he stayed dead sudo

Old codgers!! The both of ye! sudo

Raf, I would have enjoyed both I and II if it was a straight swashbuckling pirate flick. But no, we have to battle the supernatural.. ghosts and dead people who aren't really dead. All that wasn't needed in the classic Hollywood swashbucklers. What kind of courage is needed to battle skeletons in the moonlight as opposed to flesh and blood human foes? It was hard for me to determine how much of a menace they considered Davy Jones and his ship. So how could I work up any kind of anticipation? But I'm banging my head against a wall, I guess, as that is what this series is all about. Just look at the last few moments of this movie... now what the heck was *THAT* all about? But they'll justify it with some mumbo jumbo in III and to tell you the truth.. it could have been great without it. The Black Swan and Captain Blood it ain't. You KNEW those swashbucklers courage because they were facing foes we all COULD UNDERSTAND!!!! sudo

Hey guys, Are we all old coots around here or is it just me? I played this (Click HERE!) for one of staff today and she didn't know the voice. She had heard of the TV series but had no idea who was doing the "singing"... Hee-hee! But then.. she's only 33 years old. So what does that make me?? Ancient? Tell 'ya the truth, I'm not sure where that clip came from.. sounds like one of those albums TV actors would put out hoping fans would buy on strenght that they loved the series. But since we have to answer questions here, 1) Anybody NOT know the speaker's name? That would date you pretty good. And 2) Where the heck did THIS thing come from anyways?? sudo

Belle, You also have to go to the weenie roast. Suda and I will both be there. Yeah.. big Summer fer 'ya, huh? sudo
-
It was a well made big budget movie no doubt but... Why did they have to have Superman knocking up Lois Lane with a love child? And everybody's just hunky dory with this? And we're still supposed to see Superman as a defender of truth justice and the American way? I'm telling you guys... the loss of the traditional (oh, for a few thousand years now) family being a man, a woman and their children is devastating to a culture.. just ask the black community. sudo

Abigail, OK.. I'm a dummy... but where are the pictures?? sudo
-
Mark, Now I don't look so smart... if everyone can do it!! :( sudo

Kathy, Re:"Thank you for that clip. That was very nice of you. I know these things we provide ... take some work." You're very welcome but since you've been posting most of the stuff lately let me ask you... Isn't it fun? You get to personally bring up memories long forgotten and did you know we might be making people mentally healthier? No kidding! Click HERE! and read how we Nostalgiacs are happier healthier people! Heck, we ought to charge admission to this thread, huh?? sudo

And another thing.. These were young folks who had gotten in trouble with the law, right? So why was it they were now to be trusted?? sudo

Mark, Right click on the smiley faces and select properties. That tells 'ya what's going on in this instance. No need to view source code or nuthin'. Then you can put it in one of your posts by using the 'img src' command... lookie. I'm just soooo smart.. sudo (or am I just a smarty pants???)

Kathy, The clue is big hair, right? Its not Charley's Angels, huh? Well, until someone gets yours.. here's a promo I found that ran on ABC. The sound is real low for some reason so turn your speakers up quite a bit and it should play just fine in Windows Media Player. Click HERE! Could that have really been 38 years ago?? sudo

Watersedge, And since we're talking beer here.... A southern Baptist minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."... And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he said,"And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." Sermon complete, he sat down. The song leader stood very cautiously and announced, voice slightly trembling, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365, "Shall We Gather at the River." sudo

Kathy, One question... did you like that TV show? Watch it all the time?? It seemed so much more a little boy show as opposed to a little girl show. And I COULD be bluffing you know.. I might not know the theme song AT ALL but fishing for clues! sudo
-
Tops, Re:"Sudo-where do you find those songs???" Why, tut-tut!!! You should KNOW better! You've visited with us down below so you know these abilities are slowly learned while hanging out on the Nostalgia thread! Hints are given here and there as Nostalgiacs are ready to learn. So here's another effect of drinking beer with "just anybody". Click HERE! And another thing, Tops.. best not to egg me on... you'll only get more links !!! Hee-hee! sudo

Hiway29, I didn't know that you were knowledgeable into the left brain vs right thing. If you've read x-number of books on the subject then that is x-number more than I have read. So I could be wrong on how this affects points-of-view but would this not account for why a lot of actors seem to shoot off the cuff about issues they haven't fully thought out? Because their right brain has them seeing things more emotionally than rationally? This would explain why Cruise jumped up and down on Oprah's couch because he was in love and dissed Brooke Shields on purely emotional reasons wouldn't it? sudo

Linda, Re:"I like you, y'know. In spite of your occasional swipes at what I hold dear, I still think you're a decent guy." Thank you for being so nice about it. I deserved worse but you're always a class act... even to hot heads like I can be sometimes. XOXOXOXO!! Re:"So...how was the movie? The only person who would go see it with me is on vacation." We enjoyed it! A real Summer swashbuckler full of fun. If I had one beef about both this one and the original its that you can make just as good a pirate movie without bringing in all the supernatural. Tyrone Power didn't need spectral forces in The Black Swan and Errol Flynn didn't need to battle ghosts in arguably the BEST swashbuckler ever made.. Captain Blood. But in this latest installment (they filmed part 3 at the same time to be released next Summer) the whole thing is about (and I'm not giving anything away) finding the dead yet at the same time very much alive Davy Jones' still beating heart in Davy Jones' locker. Get it? Dead man's chest? Pu-uleeze! Also.. it runs too long for my tastes.. 2 1/2 hours! Thought my bladder was going to burst and I didn't even have anything to drink during the movie. But.. yeah.. its enjoyable fluff. :) sudo

Hiway29, Click the link HERE! for a brief discussion on left-brain vs right-brain. We all have characterisics of both of course but artists tend to be right brained. That means artists of all kinds.. actors, musicians etc. That's what I meant by right-brain left-brain. Me? I'm VERY left brained. I'm a musician, yes, but a technician who performs what has already been imagined and composed... not the wonderful imaginative right brained musician who brought it into existance. But this world needs both kinds of people. Without left brained people you wouldn't have air-conditioning or automobiles. Without right brained people we'd all be living in concrete cinder block houses watching math lessons on television. sudo

Hi Linda, After I made that post I took my son and went and saw the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. And you want to know something?? I couldn't enjoy the movie completely because I kept thinking about that post I made. You made a reply? I can imagine what you said because really... what I said was a little over the top. I kept thinking about it while watching Captain Jack Sparrow. If I offended you, I apologize. I was being arrogant and a know-it-all. sudo

Allan, Re:"'spose it doesn't 'fit in' with the new found 'philosophies' and 'spiritualism' !" What? Here at the Greasespot? We've gots ourselves spiritualism? Where? That would explain the lack of interest in Noah's ark no doubt. sudo

Kathy, Re:"The first one they've made a few movies of with an actor I think is a jerk btw." The boy's not that bright which is par for the course. Intelligent actors seem to be harder to find than PhD candidates running Tennessee moonshine stills. But one thing they DO excel in is emotions. That's their stock in trade and at THAT they are true masters. But IMO... they tend to think with their hearts and not their brains. Maybe its a left-brain right-brain issue. Whatever. This man like lots of mega-stars, I'm sure, thinks people just love him and anything he does. Sadly, he may not be far wrong on that issue. sudo

Watersedge, I may be a little dense but it sounds like to me that.... you're a beer fan. Hey guy, I hear you. Now here's a drinking song fer 'ya! Click HERE! sudo
