  1. Rick, Re:"If I mentioned the first one, then I'm at a loss." As I just KNEW you would be, Rick. I hunted down the song all because of you :) .This is from your post from July 22.. "Trivia time...the Tornados were the first British group to have a record hit number one on the charts. (From Ask Mr. Music)" So you know its the Tornados. But.... what's the name of it and does a guitar player like yourself recognize what the solo instrument is? And no.. its NOT a soprano sax. Click HERE! sudo P.S. Kathy, when the Beatles hit our shores February 1964 I was 12 years old and still watched cartoons on Saturday mornings. I remember thinking that the voices didn't exactly match those of the Beatles so I wasn't sure if it was really them or not.
  2. Look familiar to anyone??? sudo
  3. Welcome Alleycat!!! Its good to hear your recollections. I read The Way Living In Love, too. In fact.. I've read pert near every TWI book. Now, hang around and get to know folks! sudo
  4. Hello Mooney! Kinda' slow around these parts so good to see 'ya's. Now what's it gonna' take to lure folks in? Nekkid pics of Southern designing women who eat Yankees? No? How about an oldies guitar tune (since I know we have a guitar fan or two around here) that I think most will remember but few can name? Actually, I'm trying to get Rick to take a stab at my last one (HERE!) because HE mentioned it FIRST . But maybe one that makes 'ya groan trying to remember the name? Or who did it?? Let's see shall we? Click HERE! for a small snippet. sudo (who STILL has fun editing tunes)
  5. Kathy, I remember watching that show. My, how there were so many cartoons that I now know I watched. You're good at clues but I'll be dog gone if I understand. Tell me.. weren't you a little young for this one?? You're just a young whipper snapper! sudo
  6. Rick, Re:"Trivia time...the Tornados were the first British group to have a record hit number one on the charts." And THAT song (click HERE!) was the answer to your trivia question back last week. So NOW the trivia question is.. what is it?? Kathy.. I remember when 'Tater was added to the strip. I could be WAY off but I'm thinking it was when I was in high school in the late 60's. My how different comic strips take different tacks. Arlo and Janis are being aged with their son now already grown and almost never in the strip anymore. Blondie still has Dagwood in bowtie and 1920's clothes but he gets on the computer and has a cell phone. But their kids are frozen in time to their teenage years after seeing them grow up from babies. The Family circus has the family frozen in time when all the kids were under 10 years old. sudo
  7. Kathy, This is one for Hiway29. If anyone would know it.. HE would. I don't really recognize it though. You didn't get this one by dialing 911 did you? sudo (seeing its slow in ALL the foums today)
  8. Here's one from the nostalgic early 60's. Rick, this is instrumental so I'm thinking you might have an advantage here. Sound familiar? HERE! I remember it! sudo
  9. The modern version of 'The Birds and the Bees: A little boy goes to his father and asks "Daddy, how was I born?" The father answers: "Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway. Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via Email with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We snuck into a secluded room, I upgraded my floppy to a stiffy and then your Mom agreed to do a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a blessed little Pop-up appeared and said: 'You've Got Male'. sudo
  10. D, I think you are still missing my point. Sorry. HOW do you determine if he can "If he is able to make a conscious, deliberate, un-biased decision"??? Listen to me now.. I get kids in my dental office all the time that wouldn't be there if they were able to make the decision. OK?? What would you have me do, D? Tell them they didn't have to get the shot if they didn't want one? That they could go back home and let their tooth rot out because they had made a "conscious, deliberate, un-biased decision" that they didn't want to get dental fillings? Am I not being clear here or something? What age, David? sudo
  11. D, Re:"Should he have to wait two more years, until he is *legally* allowed to think for himself?" Maybe I didn't make myself clear, D.. Are you wanting to change the age of consent from 18 to 16? Or.. change it to 14? Or maybe change it to 10 for blood transfusions but 16 for chemotherapy? Or do you just want children to make ALL these decisions for themselves no matter what age?? Hmmm??? sudo
  12. Mark, Re:"Where am I wrong here?" Two places as I see it. 1) He's legally a child and under protections from which adults are exempt. If adults refuse medical treatment that is their right, of course, as it should be. Children don't have that right because as a society we have determined that children aren't fully rational. Like, DUH! If you want to change the age of consent that's another issue, isn't it? But right now don't most states accept 18 as the age of consent? Hey! You want to change it to 16? 14? Six and a half years old? And 2) This is analagous to Jehova's Witnesses refusing blood transfusions to their children who have been critically injured and dying from blood loss. It doesn't matter what the child wants .. laws have been passed to protect children from religious fanatical parents. sudo (who sees this issue as a no-brainer)
  13. Sushi, I had never heard it before either and believe me I can understand why they call it the "blues". If you aren't depressed before listening to the song.. you will be afterwards. Places our little troubles in perspective. sudo
  14. Some artists of the '60's are revising their hits with new lyrics to accommodate aging baby boomers. They include: 1. Herman's Hermits--- Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Walker 2. The Bee Gees--- How Can You Mend a Broken Hip 3. Bobby Darin--- Splish, Splash, I Was Havin' a Flash 4. Ringo Starr--- I Get By With a Little Help From Depends 5. Roberta Flack--- The First Time Ever I Forgot Your Face 6. Johnny Nash--- I Can't See Clearly Now 7. Paul Simon--- Fifty Ways to Lose Your Liver 8. The Commodores--- Once, Twice, Three Times to the Bathroom 9. Marvin Gaye--- Heard It Through the Grape Nuts 10. Pocol Harem--- A Whiter Shade of Hair 11. Leo Sayer--- You Make Me Feel Like Napping 12. The Temptations--- Papa's Got a Kidney Stone 13. Abba--- Denture Queen 14. Tony Orlando--- Knock 3 Times On The Ceiling If You Hear Me Fall 15. Helen Reddy--- I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore 16. Willie Nelson--- On the Commode Again 17. Leslie Gore--- It's My Procedure and I'll Cry If I Want To sudo
  15. Kathy and Sushi.. I can't hear it either. :( sudo
  16. Kathy, Re:"Sudo,..You be the man though. hahahahahahaha" Then I guess I have to post another? Dang! I have to post TWO in one day? Maybe we ought to allow some more discussion on the last one? I'm open. Actually, I DO have another one I'd like to post but first... Did *ANYONE* know the last one from that ending I posted? If so.. You're Da' MAN!! sudo
  17. Kathy, Re:"Is everything guessed now?" It appears so doesn't it? Then without further a-do. I've got one for only the very best folks at naming old TV shows from their theme songs because I don't see how ANYONE would remember this one. Actually, I bet more than a few of us WATCHED the show its just that the tune is so, uh, generic. Sounds a little like a soap opera or movie drama doesn't it? It's actually the ending to the show.. Click HERE! and have a stab at it. If it doesn't sound at all familiar to you and you know there is no way any kind of hints would help then click on the intro below that has the words and tells you the show and what it is all about. This show ran on TV from 1955-1960 so for some, that was too early but I used to love watching it. Even at that young age I could imagine that happening to our family! Click HERE! sudo
  18. Hills, Just wait bro.. several people here are actually in the business, I believe. Garth comes to mind. sudo
  19. Hiway29, Did I do good or what? What a voice he had. And he didn't think singing in Negro dialect was demeaning.. and this was a pretty progressive man. In other words.. he was confident in his own mind of who he was. Here's another one.. Click HERE! And here's one that should take you guys back to the 1960's... and the cold war... the race to space... Sputnik... Does any of this sound familiar? Click HERE! sudo
  20. Kathy, I like the rag time piano in the 2nd one! Nice tune but.. I don't know the cartoon. There used to be so many and I had to have known 'em all at one point. Re:".. but I'll be away today so before I leave I'll post something." I'll be in and out. Summertime stuff. Kids to haul. Summer produce to drool over in the stores (there's some really sweet cantalope this year) and cooking to do in the kitchen. Hiway29, I said you would be embarrassed so tell me if I was wrong in my fortune telling abilities. The singer was none other than the muti-talented Paul Robeson. Surely you've seen The Emperor Jones or the 1936 version of Showboat, no? He would be noteworthy if that had been ALL that he had done. Click on a bio HERE! Look at his intellectual acheivments. OK, I disagree with his politics but things were bad for blacks back then. Heck, I probably disagree with your politics, too. Big deal. I like and admire Paul Robeson. sudo
  21. I guess we all do... I had a college sweetheart I was crazy about but she fell for another and gave me back my fraternity pin. I was upset about it at the time as you would expect. Over the years, I kept up with her because her brothers were both fellow dentists. Sometimes I would think about "what if we had stayed together and gotten married". I wouldn't have met the girl that had gotten me into TWI. How different my life would have been. I actually saw her again two years ago at an Ole Miss football game. I had gotten over her years before but running into her unexpectedly was a little un-nerving. She was just like she was then but I hadn't been thinking of her like she really was... I had been thinking of her as being more erudite and sophisticated somehow. My, my how I'm so very glad we DIDN'T get married for so very many reasons. sudo
  22. Kathy, Re:" I read she was only allowed to wear pants so many episodes." No kidding? I guess you don't even remember the tight pants that we guys do, huh? And to think she's about to turn 70. Actually, I was never enamored with her because she always seemed so.. whiney. Both on Dick Van Dyke AND her own show. Can't you hear her even now responding to a criticism by her boss? "Miiiiiister Graaaaaaant!!!!!" Hiway29.. Re:"...but I'm sincerely hoping to avoid a debate on whether he was a Communist or not." I stumped you.. I stumped you.. Nah nah nah na naaaaah nah! You're gonna' feel really embarrassed when you realize who this is, I think I can guarantee you. This man was an intellectual as well as an entertainer. It's revealing to me how it didn't bother him at all to perform Negro spirituals and gospel songs. That's how things were in the 30's and 40's and he didn't even BEGIN to think he was denigrating himself. It was part of our American culture and he was comfortable with it. He's probably most famous for the following song.. Click HERE! But he could also perform songs of his beloved U.S.S.R. and his adored politician.. get this... Josef Stalin.. Click HERE! And you know what? I don't even begrudge him about his political leanings because in his mind.. Communism offered the best prospect for blacks at that time in our history. Now.. need some more hints?? Hee-hee! I'm sooooo bad sudo
  23. Ron, You might be a fan but I find that pic rather crude. You would post that in a family forum? sudo
  24. Hiway29, You took a pass on the Ain't Necessarily So tunes. Bluzeman knew the first one was Peggy Lee, wasn't positive about the 2nd and hadn't listened to the American Communist who did the 3rd. Click HERE! sudo
