Belle, So good to see your font down here! And so now you know the truth.. 'ole Sudo isn't really the master of trivia !! Now, I'm not too bad at nostalgia stuff.. particularly old TV and movies. But even then we have some here who can put me to shame. So C'mon and take a guess yourself at a few of them. As you see with me... nothing to be ashamed of if ya' don't know! :) sudo

Tops, Good song but.. I don't know who it is :( . I get the impression that I'm supposed to know, though, huh?? And on Johnny Carson, too. You're doing so good here, Tops. As you guys know, I ilke the old movies on Turner Cable Movies and here's a clip I took from one I recorded this past weekend. You'll all know Shirley Temple but who is her dancing partner here? And what movie was it from? It's just a short clip but I think ya'll will like it.. Shirley is such a good little dancer as well as actress. Click HERE! sudo

Geo and Rick knew who it was but *I* wouldn't have known. Ohh.. you guys are good! Here's two more pics of her that are a little more recognizable. Not our generation, granted, and as I was talking to Rick on the phone he mentioned how our generation remembers her.. the spokesperson for Cross-your-heart bras! Yes.. THAT'S what she was famous for!! Hee-hee! And..... sudo
-
Kathy, Yeah, that's possible. But she's famous for a movie "banned in Boston" so to speak. sudo
-
Kathy, This actress was indeed known for some of her physical attributes but... her legs weren't what was generally mentioned . sudo

How 'bout a pic of a famous actress that you might not recognize today?? Behold... This picture was taken last year. Who is she?? Oh, how we change as we get older, huh?? sudo (thinking she should REALLY tone down the lipstick!)

Tennessee Quarter Recall Hang on to any of the new State of Tennessee quarters. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents. The U.S. Treasury announced today that it is recalling all of the Tennessee quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state. ”We are recalling all the new Tennessee quarters that were recently issued”, Tennessee Treasury spokesman Jack Owens said Monday. "This action is being taken after numerous reports that new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices." The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states joined the U.S. and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors worldwide. "The problem lies in the unique design of the Tennessee quarter, which was created by a University of Tennessee graduate," Owens said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices." ......sudo

Rick, I think that sounds like a Hawaiian steel guitar like Kathy's pic. Unlike TOPS, though I have no clue even though I remember hearing it. Clues??? sudo

Rick, Happy Birthday my man.. and since I'm posting this on the Nostalgia thread... sudo
-
Rick, You have to add me to the congratulatories. I'd say many happy returns but that sounds too much like you should be taking your birthdays to Wal-Mart or something. But I can say... Happy Birthday Bluzeman!!!!!!!! sudo

Priscilla, Re:"Thanks Sudo for this thread, it's fun!" Thank you my dear! I'm happy you are enjoying yourself here in the South with the rest of us But Look out!! Next thing you know you'll be eating cornbread and turnip greens and singing Rocky Top or Dixie at football games. Isn't this a great place to live?? Thanks again! And it's good to see your posts! sudo P.S. Uh, Garth, tell me again why it is you remain here in the South when you obviously would rather be someplace else?? You sound a lot like what we used to call a carpetbagger.

Garth and Geo, Re:"I guess I'm one of those who 'just don't get it' when it comes to identifying with the southern region." I can appreciate that feeling and that's one reason I started this thread. It hit me that we in the South had this peculiar attribute.. not regional pride exactly as we've seen folks post here that feel for the Northeast, Maine or wherever but.. identity. We are Southerners to the bone no matter where in the country we may be residing at the time. Oh, that's the Ole Miss band alright David. I was a member of that band for 4 years many years ago! Thanks for the link. What they played Saturday was very similar.. here's that same link in embed format. Yes.. its very moving to my Southern ears :) . sudo

Hey everybody! I hope everyone’s had a great weekend because I sure have. I was sitting here thinking about what a great time I had yesterday down at Ole Miss. The Fall weather was gorgeous (how I LOVE this time of year!) our Rebels beat Vanderbilt and it was home coming weekend! But there was something else. After the game and all the Ole Miss fans were celebrating, the band was playing stirring tunes like our fight song and the Vanderbilt fans just sucked it up . Then the band broke into a slow version of Dixie. The mood changed. Instead of jumping up and down and shouting, folks got somber and many even locked arms and swayed with the music.. even the VANDERBILT fans! Vanderbilt is in Nashville, you see. It was a moment of commemorating our Southern roots. Its very similar to the way we all feel about our country when the Star Spangled Banner is played and performed by an artist who really does it justice. But this was a little different in that was cultural.. not nationalistic. And I got to thinking that lots of folks wouldn’t “get it”. Maybe even get upset that it was a racial issue even though we were all arm in arm.. blacks and whites together. I’m used to it. When I lived in Philadelphia, I experienced what folks (at least back then) thought about Southerners. Most thought we sounded ignorant and were all Jethro Bodine’s or Boss Hogg’s :( . But I’m not posting this to get mad at anybody, rather, I found myself feeling sorry for those who DON’T have strong regional pride. It’s like we Southerners have something the rest of the country is lacking. Because for the most part, most Americans had just as soon live anywhere they can get the best job or where there family lives. But regional preferences? Maybe the weather influences those choices somewhat but it appears to me that little else does. Am I out of line here? Is there still regional pride and (dare I say it, Scarlett?) love? I couldn’t find the Ole Miss band version of slow Dixie but click on the Colonel Rebel Picture below and listen to a version that always brings a tear to my eye. Does any other region of the country have anything close to this?? sudo

Tops, Can you remember Our Ms. Flowing Stream? You must be about my vintage then. Personally? I don't remember it at all though I really liked the actor who went to work later with Walter Brennan and appeared in all the Rambo movies. You guys want nostalgia? Well I've gots nostalgia for you I tell 'ya!. Just look at the pic below.. What? The lady doesn't look familiar you say? She's pretty enough but there are lots of pretty girls but why post her pic you ask? Because she was a one hit wonder with a song you all should remember. It was #1 on the charts for a long time. Who is she? And did you guys like the song? If you guys are *good* you won't have to go further. But if not... click on her picture to find out!! sudo

I think.. We were just talking about this guy and whatnot were we not? Click HERE! So who is it? And C'mon.. lets not give it away all at once guys although it may be easy for you. You know.. I could have picked a more obscure one but.. this is my favorite which he did in 1961 so I remember it on the radio. I was 9 years old. Loved it then. Love it now. For me, its nostalgic. :) sudo

Vegan, We love Halloween but rarely do more than carve a pumpkin or two. I use stencils that I place on the pumpkin and they come out looking great! When the kids were younger we'd take them out trick-or-treating. We have fond memories of those times. Now, we wonder how many kids we're going to get at the door as some years are better than others. We always buy WAY too much candy. Don't want to run out you know . sudo
