The Lone Ranger The Lone Ranger and Tonto walked into a saloon and sat down to drink a Beer. After a few minutes, a big tall cowboy walked in and said "Who Owns the big white horse outside?" The Lone Ranger stood up, hitched his gun belt, and said, "I do....Why?" The cowboy looked at the Lone Ranger and said, "I just thought you'd like to know that your horse is about dead outside!" The Lone Ranger and Tonto rushed outside and sure enough Silver was ready to die from heat exhaustion The Lone Ranger got the horse water and soon Silver was starting to feel a little better. The Lone Ranger turned to Tonto and said, "Tonto, I want you to run around Silver and see if you can create enough of a breeze to make him start to feel better." Tonto said, "Sure, Kemosabe" and took off running circles around Silver. Not able to do anything else but wait, the Lone Ranger returned to the saloon to finish his drink. A few minutes later, another cowboy struts into the bar and asks, "Who owns that big white horse outside?" The Lone Ranger stands again, and claims, "I do, what's wrong with him this time?" The cowboy looks him in the eye and says, (...This is Really pretty good...) (...I JUST LOVE THIS PART...) He says, "Nothing, but you left your injun runnin" ........ sudo

Kathy, Geeze... sure sorry about your Ohio Tech or whatever losing to Florida but they should have KNOWN better than to schedule a football game with a Southern SEC team fer Heaven's sakes. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alright.. I've gloated enough... I'm OK now. Uh.. lets see. Oh yes! The great choreography. I see Ca Dreaming thinks like I do a bit these are pieces of art and though maybe not as timeless as the choreography of Swan Lake its perfect Americana of 1933!! When I watch these old movies I sometimes think how old my mother and father were at the time. In this case, Momma was 4 and daddy was 8 years old. Very very few of the actors in those movies are around today of course and when I pull up their bios, I usually see that they died after I had already grown up. I remember Dick Powell on TV for instance in this case. For those not able to really download large video files.. here's a pretty small MP3 of the finale. The show stopper that turned a movie into a broadway play and even a revival. Click HERE! the visual is fascinating, though. sudo

Kathy, Uh, Ohio State isn't playing Miami. They are playing Florida and losing badly because... Florida is an SEC team. Big Ten just can't measure up to the SEC you know. sudo

Hiway29, Here's the Busby segment that I have had to shorten for George and others that don't have fast enough Internet connections to see... If you guys aren't familiar with Busby Berkeley then this is a fine example. I'm posting it but I'm posting it for some comments.. How about the costumes? The most typical Berkeley shots are the overheads but other than that.. what gorgeous women, eh? And take a look at that 4th lady in the clip.. does she not look like the spitting image of Mary Tyler Moore??? Gorgeous women... who didn't have to starve themselves to appear bulimic!! Click HERE! and lets hear what you guys think. sudo (with one last one from this movie to post)
-
Kathy and George, Ya'll saw it exactly as I did! These were full figured women with (as Kathy said) curves and (as I'm saying) great rear ends! . Good gracious molly they were beautiful, huh? How did it happen that "gorgeous" women and models are now supposed to look bulimic?? George.. Re:"Now that I 've actually seen the Harpo clip, I admit I'm impressed." Isn't that freaking something, George? Harpo plays that harp like a piano! I've never seen a harpist able to play individual notes like that. Most of them strum and pick a tad... but play Listz' Hungarian Rhapsody #2?? Naw... Never seen anything like it. I was a classically trained musician who went through college on a band scholarship and have heard many a harpist but NOTHING could compare to this. You might want to read my other comments on it previously but I really thought you'd want to see that George. We'd have been a lot busier here on the Nostalgia thread, I think, if other folks could see these posts of mine, too :( . sudo
-
George, Now that you know how the Media Player is working, I really think you'd appreciate the clip I posted of Harpo Marx. Click (or right click to download) HERE! You're a musician so I think this will really blow you away. But you know what? Its 30 megs. I know there are folks who just can't participate here if they don't have broadband. Way back when I started the Nostalgia thread on WayDale hardly anyone had broadband. Nearly everyone had dial-up so all we could post were small WAV files. I did a lot... a LOT of trial and error learning how to convert MP3's, large WAV files, WMA's etc.. to low quality WAV files so that all of us could hear them on dial-up when we clicked on the link. I had found a freeware program on the internet that I still use called DbPoweramp that would do these conversions. I had Bluzeman and Wasway using the program and posting songs in no time. Then we all helped Chattykathy and others like Cowgirl and Krysillis learn to do this. Rick generously gave them all space on his server so they too could post tunes. Now we're in the era of broadband. Things change. Certainly The Nostalgia thread has changed. Ah!! I get nostalgic about the Nostalgia thread . Here's another clip from that 1933 movie and its not that long. Its not a classic clip from the movie (I have those to post too) but I'm posting it for one reason only.. these girls were what was considered the epitome of beauty back then. What do you guys think? Click HERE! Uh, the tune sorta' gives away the movie :) sudo
-
George, Did my last video play for you? If not.. you can always SAVE the target to your computer and view it afterwards. I've still got a few more to post but I can change the format for you if I need to. sudo
-
Hiway29, Sheesh! You're too smart! My next segment was to show one of his choreographies in this movie and ask everyone to name who did it. Of course.. anyone familiar with his work would know his signature right off. You've got a treat coming, my friend.. and since you know the movie.. My last post will be of the awesome finale. Great great movie! Thanks for all your input here, Hiway29. I wish there were more like you. sudo
-
Hey guys! Thanks for the kind remarks. Yes.. I like coming to this thread too Hiway29. George.. the bar on your Media player? See if its doesn't say "buffering" somewhere as well. These large files take longer to load. I've not been posting stuff a lot of folks want to see because they aren't here participating, are they? My fault. I've moved to old movies because they are not only nostalgia but a history of our culture and how its changed. A big yawner for most and I accept that. But with only three folks concerned that I'm not going to do this anymore, I'll just bow out after this last movie, I think. Oh, I'll post here and there to bring the Nostalgia thread up to the top every now and then maybe. Or.. if anyone else decides they want to post stuff (I don't own this thread after all) I'll participate. My feelings aren't hurt. Its been a long run and I've had a great time. So here's one of several clips I have of a very good movie that's been a little short changed. Remember.. this movie came out FIRST and THEN they put it on Broadway.. not the other way around as is usual. Click HERE! and note a few things. First off.. the lady is no singer.. she's a hoofer. And for those of you (all three of you ) who might know this movie from this clip.. this was before the Hays code was enforced. I have more of that later. Secondly.. you guys see that even back then, Reno was known for its easy divorces? I wouldn't have known that unless I had seen this movie. So who are the two dames (one eating a banana and the other an apple) who are so "worldly" in knowing about these matters? You all know one of them very well. Again.. she's a hoofer and not a singer. I hope you guys enjoy this. A real piece of Americana circa 1930-something. sudo
-
You guys have it alright... The movie was A Night In Casablanca. I have another classic movie downloaded and will post a couple of clips later. I'm thinking of bowing out of this thread, though guys. The Nostalgia thread has run for years and years but now... I'm the only one posting and there's little interest. No hard feelings but I think like all good TV shows there comes a time to call it quits. I'll have something up tomorrow but it may be one of my lasts. It takes such a long time to take these downloaded movies and snip portions out to post. And there's so few folks participating but hey! I've had fun doing it! sudo

Belle, Re:"Those dang "boring" exercises stick with us, don't they? I can still relive the nightmares of diagramming sentences if I think about it long enough." I actually enjoyed those assignments. I would even WAGER that the 20 somethings wouldn't do as well as on this as us old goats. sudo

Hiway29 and Kathy, OK.. here's my favorite and I think the both of youse know what it is.. now don't you? Kathy alluded to "Whereas his brother was a more classical player of his instrument I thought." and just to let ya'll know.. not only was he NOT classically trained but he had classically trained musicians studing his own made-up unique style. He played this instrument like a dang piano. I've NEVER heard anyone come close to matching it. Hiway29.. I didn't know these guys were so old at the time. But I remember when the last one died and feeling so sad about a passing of an era. Anywho.. click HERE! and listen to something special! Uh.. you guys might want to turn your speaker sound up some.. its a little soft. sudo
-
Cowgirl, And here it is.. right click on it, select properties and you see where it is posted!! sudo
-
Cowgirl, Its easy! You've even got your own space on Rick's (Bluzeman) computer for doing it. You know you used to upload your music files there and then link to them? Well, you can do the same thing with pictures only its even easier. The syntax is: <img src=http://your_image.jpg> and that's it! I just placed a pic of Ole miss' Colonel Reb in the next post where I enabled HTML. I didn't enable HTML here because I wanted you to see how it was done. The image in the next post is <img src=http://mail.bluzecentral.net/~sudo/colreb.jpg> sudo

What more can be said?? I have two more from the movie... I'm saving the one that really blows me away but here's another of said same performer. These performances MUST be part of why this is considered a 4 star movie. Click HERE! Only one of them lived to what you might call a ripe old age. And the tabloids were full of his last days suffering with Alzheimer's' and supposedly being taken advantage of by a lady young enough to be his daughter.. or granddaughter, if I remember correctly. I was still in school at the time. sudo

Hiway29, You're doing it just fine. Everyone who really knows now knows that you have it too. I've gots two more from that movie but it just astounds me how talented Minnie's boys were musically! Does anyone need hints? How 'bout this one.. a city in North Africa. sudo
-
Kathy, I recorded this entire movie last night for just a few clips I think you'll enjoy.. They are large clips so if you don't have broadband, 'ya gotta' save them and view them later. But this guy did this with no formal training I understand.. Is he even looking at the keyboard at the end? Know who he is? What movie is it from?? Click HERE! I've gots more! sudo
-
Kathy, I see you found your own link to the Dan Fogelburg version. It reminds me just a WHOLE lot of Harry Chapin's Taxi.. and follow up. How strongly we loved as youngsters. sudo (sad and its sweet and I knew it complete when..)

My friends.. Oenophile, Sushi, Cowgirl, Dmiller, Groucho, Dreaming.. I know ALL of your names and you all know mine. We have been here for years and though we may have had our disagreements, in my heart... I see you guys as friends though some of us may have never met. We fuddy duddy's will stay home and sleep warmly in our beds (mine has an electric blanket :)) and have ourselves a great GREAT new year!!!!!!!! sudo (now headed toward the rack monster's clutches)

Kathy, Re:"I don't recognize them well enough to name." Well, Kathy, Wanna' know what I think??? I think you KNOW who was doing the first song (click http://sudo2u.com/afh.mp3'>HERE!) but just shy about posting it. C'mon.... he played it ever year since 1929. So for 'Ole Sudo's sake..... try again!

It's New Year's eve and all the world is partying. Except me :( .'Cuz I just don't stay up late. But I've got two tunes for you Nostalgia fans. The first one everyone knows so no need playing coy over it. I'm posting it because in this version you hear his voice... Click HERE! He died my senior year in dental school... 1977. The next one might not be so obvious. But let's face it.. there's not just a plethora of New Year's songs out there now is there?? Click HERE! and name this famous lady singer who is still alive today at age 89!!!! sudo (doing the best he can on this thread)

Krys, That card with the balloons must be pretty popular this year. For the most part.. all us Greasespotters are doing OK doncha' think?? And for those who aren't.. I hope 2007 is a great year for them! In the words of the immortal Tiny Tim... sudo
